Terranova 104' [2 - 2] T. Gekas 110' [2 - 3] P. Helmes Anyone know a place to find highlights of the goal? I cant find them anywhere..
Guest TheLegend
He also "set up" the last goal. He chipped the ball onto goal that was saved on the line but one of the other fowards got the rebound in scored. Hes on Bayer Leverkusans home page a big picture of him. So he scored the equaliser in over time and helped set up the winning goal in over time. Good start for the first game of the season.

drakos13
Gekas is red hot form again. Where was this form during the euro?? Btw did he start this game? what are you kidding???!Im sorry, but the criticsm of Gkekas in the Euro was totally outrageous. Not saying you paxioti Im saying other people in general...totally make stupid claims and critiscms of Gkekas that make simply no sense, hes the only real striker Greece has - finishes, makes good runs, great in the air, and doesnt get pushed around and has a nose for goal. Gkekas played less than 75 mins that whole tournament. Not only was he taken off at halftime (as if he was somehow responsible) vs Sweden, while the team was passing back and forth for 45 mins and hitting no more than an occasional long ball not even Drogba would do anything that game for us. The Russia game, the guy came on as a sub ran his ass of and even made tackles and helping out in the back, not to mention his ONSIDE run was what pretty much got us the equalizer, that "didnt count". Its not like Katsouranis and Basinas did anything to showcase their attackers abilities, not even so much as a decent pass or helping run from them. People also seemed to come to the conclusion that he was "benched" all year with Levekusen, which is total bull too, if anybody cared to look at statistics - not starting 10/10 games doesnt make you a bench player... paxiotis7
He wasnt poor at the euros But Gekas is normally lighting it up. The whole team was bad. Im saying i expected more out of gekas since he is our best player (arguably). Your right though. That comment about the eurors i said was not very accurate. I never critisied any of the strikers during the euro. We all know we lsot cause the mid and poor tactics. All im saying is we could have for sure used this finishing at the euros. But then comes the argument, "we could have used that service from the mids at the euros".
drakos13
yeah i didnt mean you it just brought up the issue of critiscm....some people were totally rubbishing the guy after 70 mins in 3 games with no service...i mean to rant on those ones.. AEK-MTL
Yeah, there's no way anyone can really lay blame on Gekas for the Euro. He got no service whatsoever from the midfield. Glad to see he's lighting it up for Leverkusen again. Anyone have a clip of the goals?

Clover22
Yeah good post on Gekas drakos. Otto failed to set the team up properly so what the hell do you expect?
Guest TheLegend
he wasnt bad at the euros. No fowards were. You cant say a foward is bad when the midfeild is so atrocious that san marino can say that their midfeild is comparable to ours and this all star euro champ midfeild cant serve one decent pass to fowards. Genome
Fanis Gekas scored his second of the season yesterday in the 2-0 victory of Leverkusen vs. Koln, after Leverkusen was awarded a penalty kick. He puts it away beautifully :). Watch the highlights and his goal in specific around 4:50 in the vid:
jcoutavas
I was perusing the Bayer Leverkusen website and stumbled upon this gem: Theofanis Gekas - footballer by day, top-notch male escort/construction worker by night. rodoj
Not sure his move from Bochum was a good one. He seems lost in the numbers and for some reason has lost the confidence of the coach. Anyone with knowledge about the Bundesliga care to comment on what is happening to him? My concern is that he is such a key component of the NT that a loss of confidence with his club will result in subpar performances for the NT. Euro2004
It's common knowledge that Gekas is unhappy and wants to leave Leverkusen asap. But as far I know the only club that has shown a slight interest is Olympiakos. Has anyone else heard any interesting transfer rumours?

DUDE
We all know that Gekas is allowed to leave but only in an outright transfer, loan moves are not an option. Rumours have been flying around that Olympiakos are interested, these rumours further accelerated after it was revealed that Kovacevic may never play again. However Gekas has said that he has had no offers from Olympiakos.
