I would also add that if these players aren't making much of an impact with the B team, then we should be promoting youth players to replace them immediately. Fail fast and move on. To be blunt, these players have no value to us if they do not make the big boy team. The fact that we're "selling" them for large resale rates is the football equivalent to what my industry calls "schmuck insurance."

-edit- adding something unrelated which I just saw:

So is that team gonna buy all of our rejects? Would love it if true, but I find this a little unlikely.

Overhere the saying is you create a batch for that one player. Koulierakis is that one of this batch for us. As you need 11 players, the others help the one to flourish and will have a decent education at the same time what helps them in the future earning a decent living. Wherever that may be.

Here the lower tiers (2nd is professional, from the 3rd amateur) but upper in the pyramid, are packed with former players of the youth-systems of Feyenoord, PSV or 020. They have well educated players to their disposal.

So you must see it as a win-win-win situation.

The Netherlands also has the advantage of a much more systematized youth training setup, doesn't it? In other words, with standards enforced from their FA? I am actually curious as to where PAOK's (and other teams in Greece) compare with this. My suspicion is not well; the Dutch appear to consistently generate more technically proficient players than we do.

Anyway, speaking of a team that Dutch Eagle actually is the co-owner of:

Would we acquire another Greek player, in this case? Perhaps that left winger who popped up in the rumors a few months back? Personally, I'd promote the most promising B team CB (or give Tsaousis a shot as our #2 LB).

Word has it that we're snagging this kid from Watford, for our B team:

https://www.transfermarkt.us/jorge-cabezas/profil/spieler/911946

Watford seems to have never really intended to play him, as he has been loaned out ever since they first acquired him. Still young, 20 years old. I find this kind of weird because we will have a big overabundance of strikers for the next two or so seasons; is he going to just sit on the B team until he's 24?

-edit- popping back in to say that Ekong's deal might be for 1.2mm, which amazingly could be a slight profit for us. Expected to head to the land of the blowing sands early next week.

Sorry for all the updates here, but the edit button timed out for little old me.

Anyway, this would be quite the move. Feels like more a Koulierakis replacement than an Ekong one, but I wouldn't complain either way:

If only you all knew how much contact PaokCT had with me on different channels. Guy is sending me hot tips left right and center, but then refuses to post them here. Amazing!

Anyway, here are his two links. My thoughts: I don't know anything about the CM but I feel he's 10 years too young for Lucescu (only half joking here, so maybe just five years too young). I also am not all that concerned about the Koulierakis stuff - there's no reason the team needs to move on anyone else's timetable; we can obviously afford to keep him and can drag this out until we finish qualifiers.

*sigh*

He's losing his mind over these posts:

Not sure if they will embed or link correctly, so this is guy he's talking about:

Not sure why he'd make a move 8 months after signing with them, but who knows, stranger things have happened.

Koulierakis form has been great and what he has been able to do in the terms of goals and assists is quite remarkable. 3 goals and an assist in these qualifiers from a center back is insane. Not even considering his stats from last season.

We are holding firm that we will hang onto him until the end of the Europa League qualifiers. Clearly he will go and it will be a blow for us but that money is incredible. I just hope the club, who has known probably for at least 6 months that he was to be sold this summer, has an adequate and quality replacement lined up.

One of the PAOK Today guys is saying now that the deal has already been agreed but we aren't transferring him before the play offs are over. I don't know how he knows that, but I hereby bless that plan.

I think we will need 2 CBs of good quality. One to replace Ekong and the other to replace Koulierakis. We absolutely need a replacement for Meite, something that should have been done 2 months ago. The rest are not as pressing and could be taken care off during the winter transfer period.

And on top of that, our Russian CF who played 13 games for PAOK B (and scored five goals) last season is also walking. Strange moves all around.

Possibly a left back, possibly a right back. Depending on if Lucescu really doesn't like Soares, and if he's losing faith in Otto. We will not win a championship with Vieirinha locking down a starting role there.

If Lucescu plans to use Tissoudali as a CF, could see them looking for another LW. But we now have a lot of players that can play there (even if it isn't their "natural" position).

Seems the Kouliarakis transfer has been announced, but will still take place after these games. Odd that we are announcing so soon but at least we made a lotta cash!

That’s baffling to me. That a club would announce the transfer but for a few weeks in time. What happens if he tears his ACL. Do we still get the $? The transfers been announced and signed off on.

It is possible - but unlikely - that there might be a financial reporting reason for this. Perhaps Wolfsburg's fiscal year-end is is August 31st, so a transfer would have to officially happen the first day of September?

Or, perhaps, we offered to give him up for slightly less money while we got to keep him for an extra two weeks.

Either way, very strange all around. I also wonder if the deal is truly signed (but if not, we go back to the question: why announce it?)...
