Brklyngrk Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Kourbellis being out is a big loss for the system we play, curious who starts next to him. Who he replaces Bakasetas will show how we want to play - will be Konstadellias/Zafeiris or Mantalos?
Brklyngrk Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Also think Karetsas will play some real minutes - he went after him pretty aggressively.
Dean97 Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Just curious, will the coach put out the same starting 11 that beat Scotland 3-0(with everyone healthy ofcourse) in the next game. I would. I know the next game is a friendly but when it comes to the qualifiers I would put the same team. Players like Karetsas, Zafeiris, Delias, Mouzakitis have cemented there spots in my opinion. What does everyone else think? 2
PaokCT Posted March 27 Posted March 27 He has to play those guys right? I mean the first WCQ is against Belarus who will surely sit back. Need to start the young bucks. Against Denmark I can see him making changes in such an important game. But its also a game by game situation. 1
pash Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Mantalos, Siopis, and Bakasetas will start, mark my words. The party is over before it even begins!
Brklyngrk Posted March 27 Posted March 27 I think he will give the kids a chance...He sat Tsimikas who was healthy, Vlacho and Rota as well. He's not afraid to do what is necessary. I think most of us are used to coaches keeping the same guys no matter what..

The Greek NT always has that mentality to lean on the reliable names in its squad. Maybe a spot of youth. I think in Greece Ivan started the lineup he would be expected to start. More or less. He seen the result. He gave them that match out of respect. I think he knew deep down the team he should start in Scotland. There is no going back now. I think there is so little margin for error in these qualifiers we can't risk it. Ivan will not make a single change from that lineup in the next match imo. He should definitely go Vagiannidis over Rota. The interesting one will be Giannoulis or Tsimi. Bakasetas also has a lot of respect in the team. We'll see what happens there.
Dean97 Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Players like Bakasetas, Mantalos, Kourbelis and Siopis should be done. Some should leave completely and some should be benched. You can’t bench Delias or Karetsas. How can you? Both help each other and overall make the team better. What I know from the young guys is that Tzolis and Koulierakis are permanent starters and rightly so. Tzolakis also has made case for himself. Zafeiris were most people’s 2nd man of the match after Delias. Mouzakitis is our best midfielder in my opinion. He’s only 18. I don’t think any could get past him. The only time was when he got a yellow. Also look at Karetsas goal. Was started by Mouzakitis with his nice pass down to Giannoulis. Great team goal. Gives us hope that these young guys made this team win 3-0 away against a very physical Scottish team and they held their own. Could’ve also been 4 or 5-0 too. For Greece your better to trust the younger players than the experienced, it’s the way it is for us. 3
pash Posted March 28 Posted March 28 It is just WILD to me that people were agonizing over who to play in midfield, to counter the Scots. Like, are you kidding me? Siopis and Mantalos? Were they hiding some deep well of skill all these years that we've never seen before? Get real; Zafeiris is looking great and can be the backbone of the team for years. Can't fall into the trap of not letting new people play, because when they're finally the vets, they will not have gained any experience with the team... 4
Brklyngrk Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Regarding the Starting 11... GK - Tsolakis to lose now. CBs - Mavro/Kouliarakis have cemented their places. Maybe Restos can replace Mavro from time to time. LB - Tsimikas or Giannoulis can go either way. RB - Same for RB. I prefer Vagiannidis over Rota but not sure if Ivan definitely will choose Vagiannidis. In the midfield - I think he showed us that he liked the two kids over Mantalos. Siopis/Kourbellis still have a shot but the kids played well. RW - Karetsas cemented his claim, no going back. LW - Tzolis for the next 10 years. From strength to strength with him. AM - Delias or Bakasetas may depend on the game. Delias is the better option/should start but we shall see what Ivan wants to do. It's just the Delias and Karetsas linked up so well!!! ST - Neither Pavlidis or Ioannidis really stuck out. If Tzimas or Kostoulas get a shot, they may keep it. 2
Dean97 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I actually thought Giakoumakis was always good but he’s hitting 30 so better off going to Pavlidis, Ioannidis, Douvikas and Kostoulas. Kostoulas can play ST. Thats where he’s played his whole youth career but Olympiakos he used more as a 10 or wide player. I think we should use him out wide for Greece we need more depth there. Agreed about Tzolis. He’s our best and will be a lock on the wing years to come. I think Zafeiris has replaced Siopis in the line up. Also Mouzakitis showed he’s a bigger upgrade to Mantalos. I don’t see Mantalos in the squad for much long.
