PAOK in Europe 2024-2025 (News, Draws, Rankings)

Recommended Posts

We can take any of them, but obviously Galatasaray is the one to skip. I'm sure Sparta Prague will beat the Romanians, but that would be the second-scariest matchup for me.

The draw for the Playoff round of the Champions League takes place on Monday. The winner of the PAOK - Malmo matchup will be among seeded teams. Here are the seeding for the draw:

SEEDED TEAMS

Dinamo Zagreb CRO 50.000
Red Star Beograd SRB 40.000
winner PAOK Thessaloniki - Malmo FF   37.000
winner Ferencvaros Budapest - Midtjylland   35.000
Young Boys Berne SUI 34.500

UNSEEDED TEAMS

winner Slovan Bratislava - APOEL Nicosia   30.500
winner Bodo Glimt - Jagellonia Bialystok   28.500
winner Sparta Prague - FC Steaua Bukurest   22.500

If we manage to eliminate Malmo, we will face one of the teams from the unseeded section.

In case we drop to the Europa League we will be seeded too:

Group 2
Seeded
LASK (AUT)
Winners of pairing 5: FK Panevėžys (LTU) / Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC (ISR)
Pairing 3: Malmö FF (SWE) / PAOK FC (GRE)
Pairing 4: ŠK Slovan Bratislava (SVK) / APOEL FC (CYP)

Unseeded
Pairing 5: AC Sparta Praha (CZE) / Fotbal Club FCSB (ROU)
Winners of pairing 6: NK Celje (SVN) / Shamrock Rovers FC (IRL)
Winners of pairing 7: UE Santa Coloma (AND) / FC RFS (LVA)
FK TSC Bačka Topola (SRB)

Best picks for me:

CL: Qarabag/Ludo

EL: Santa Coloma/RFS

Probably the trickiest of all possible match-ups. I think Sparta Prague will get through, but I am only guessing. They have some good European Pedigree, making the round of 16 in the Europa League last season.

Anyway, no point worrying about them or Steaua until we take care of Malmo.

Stauea is no joke, they can definitely beat Sparta Prague (but I agree the Czech team will probably go through). The only team I was dreading was Galatasaray. Remember, we beat Eintracht Frankfurt twice with a lineup that (on paper) was much worse than we have now. No need for doom and gloom (I'm looking squarely at @PaokCT here).

Good to see that the EL path is a lot more straightforward for us, but let's hope it doesn't matter anyway.

The draw for CL could have been better, but if we want to be taking part in the group phase, we should be able to beat teams like Sparta Prague or Steaua. First things first though. Let's take care of Malmo FF.

Indeed, we need to eliminate all opponents. And for the record Sparta Praha is despite being a strong opponent the lowest unseeded.

And it is FCSB! They are the fake Steaua bought by crook Becali. The "real" Steaua plays in Liga II.

We know PAOK. We will make it difficult away. Anglo-Saxon teams give us trouble. UK, Irish, Scottish. They fight and battle. We have much more talent but they always challenge us. They have a different play style. Will pump the ball down force us to play, and we will make mistakes. I see it being a one goal leg at the end

Do we have anything to indicate that Lucescu actually wants to get rid of Soares? The blogs went nuts over him being left off the list, but we only have so many spaces here.

Here's a rundown of prize money for Europa League. I'm not sure if the knockout stages are cumulative or not, but even without the variable ranking and media bonuses, a team that qualifies to the league stage and wins all eight games will make at least 8.21mm. Such a team would also probably make around 5 million in additional prizes for those variable share-based bonuses.

  • Qualifying to league stage: 4,310,000 (a down payment of 4.14mm and a deferred payment of 170k)
  • Win: 450,000
  • Draw: 150,000
  • League stage also gives ranking bonuses. This is a big departure from how it was done previously. The league will provide "shares," which are each valued at 75k. The lowest-ranked team will receive one share, while the highest-ranked will receive 36 (so, a max payout of an additional 2,700,000)
  • League stage will also pay 600k to each of the top eight teams, and 300k for the teams ranked 9th through 16th
  • Qualifying for the knockouts yields additional bonuses:
    • 300k for making it to knockout
    • 1.75mm for round of 16
    • 2.5mm for quarter finals
    • 4.2mm
    • 7mm for qualification to the final
    • 6mm for winning the final
  • There is also a new "value pillar" associated with media rights. There will be 666 shares (rock on), which we don't yet have the value for, but is estimated at 74k. The lowest-ranked team in the competition will receive a single share, the highest ranked team will receive 36 shares.

Let's hope I don't have to look this up for Conference League, eh?

You keep on using this word, I do not think this means what you think it means. Has anything we have shown this season indicate we have "talent"
