Dutch Eagle
PAOK U19 - Lamia U19 tomorrow 15:30 EEST on PAOK TV for free for us with a subscription. EUR 1,49 if you want to buy just this game. Would be surprised if we sell more than 10 of those. Probably to some scouts around the world.
Blackhawk
pash the PAOK - Lamia had 25,000 individual subscriptions just for this game. The number sounds quite high to me, but that's what was mentioned on one of the many Thessaloniki sports radio stations yesterday. Blackhawk
From what I heard on radio today, the sales for the PAOK - PAO game were little over 50,000 individual subscriptions at 7.99 Euro each. It's also reported that the banking system crashed right before the game started because many people tried to subscribe to the game at the last possible minute. Not sure if I believe that though. Could just be the imagination of the Greek media reporters.
pash
It crashed as in, we are so very popular that credit card companies couldn't handle 50k subscriptions? Very doubtful. pash
If Savvidis subsidizes its profitability on the operations end (through that network he owns), expect changes to FFP soon to ban that. Guaranteed it'll be brought up by our "friends" in the league to UEFA sooner than later. -edit- Also, I would love it if PAOKTV started poaching other teams. OFI, Giannina, Xanthi? Why not! -edit again- And yes I realize that means we'll just have bought the league. Though keep in mind Savvidis subsidized the league a year ago as well... Blackhawk
Well the numbers are not official so we don't really know the real numbers. From what I hard today the 50K for Panathinaikos is probably not true and was most likely confusion between single subscriptions and annual package subscriptions. The numbers for the annual package subscriptions is apparently around 55,000 The single subscription for Panathinaikos was probably closer to 20,000 instead of the reported 50,000. Also the OPAP subscriptions is nowhere near the 4,000. It;'s probably around the 1,000 mark.

I should note that the season price is very likely quite a bit lower for the 20k new subs, at this point. Not sure if they are overstating on purpose. Most likely they are trying to create "news" with the very limited facts that are out there and in the process give wrong numbers. As for the season price, it still is 69.99 as PAOK actively advertises it all over the place. I think they will offer a new season price after the new year, for the second part of the season. Eventually I think they will have a package for the playoffs as well.
pash
The original advertised price still being in effect means that new subscribers will be paying 69.99 for 45.92 worth of *guaranteed* games. We are rapidly approaching the point at which it is not rational to buy a subscription. The playoff pricing is unknown at this time as well, right? Realistically, there will still be a cost savings there (since we'll surely make it to the playoffs), but it doesn't take a math whiz to see that the value of the deal is decreasing weekly. Blackhawk
If you ask me I think the 55K season subscriptions is a very good number. I don't expect any big increase in the numbers. Maybe we will reach 60 or 65K. The added revenue will be sales of individual games, specially the derbies. Today I heard that Sunday we sold 25K individual subs and claims that we lost around 10K subscription because of the bank failure to process payments. This would mean that for the Olympiakos game for example we can expect around 50K individual subscriptions. I should also add that this whole PAOK TV was set up on the go and PAOK is going through a learning process. I am sure for next season we will be better organized and things will move smoothly. The other major issue that they will need to look at is piracy. There are many illegal IPTV services around the world that carry the channel. This is mostly a problem outside of Greece. That and the many establishments in Greece that buy the individual subscription instead of the commercial one.

Yiankos
It is great and it will be greater. Especially if the team helps a little bit. For the play off games would be the biggest numbers we'll see. We'll have everyone again at home.
pash
It's easy to be successful when the team is doing well. If we hit a very rough patch, who knows how next season will be. That said, they have put down a lot of infrastructure and their media department clearly is the best-run part of the team. I don't know if they WANT to run PAOKTV, but I bet if they do feel like going all-in, that they'll continue to do better next season.
teke817
I certainly consider this a success in light of how quickly it was thrown together and how the numbers (before the midway point) are already ahead of what NOVA offered. We don't have any visibility on the operational/overhead cost of this project so far, so I am reserving final judgment. Regardless, with NOVA becoming a part of Alter Ego , PAOK will have zero expectation of receiving a fair TV contract in the coming years. I agree their media/marketing group appears to be the savviest, most progressive division within the club, but they better be formulating a plan to leverage this for next season and beyond. I also wouldn't be upset at all if a group like FuboTV or DAZN decided to enter the market (like they did with Football League a few years ago) and snatch up PAOK and half the league as part of a digital TV package, so long as we got fair compensation in exchange. It would be nice to siphon some clubs from NOVA.
