Nations League: Finland - Greece (17 November 2024, Olympic Stadium, Helsinki)

The draw will be on November 22nd. The only team we want to avoid will be Belgium. The other choices are Poland/Scotland , Hungary, Serbia/Denmark.

Nope, the playoff for Nations League will be on Nov 22nd. World Cup Qualifier draw is Dec 13

Oh my daze, Scotland beat Poland in the dying minutes to claim a playoff spot! Totally did not expect this! 😮 Serbia held at home 0-0 to Denmark and the Serbs go to the playoffs while Denmark are heading to the quarterfinals of the Nations League.

So it's one of the Scotland, Serbia, Hungary or Belgium that we will face in the promotion playoffs.

So we've drawn Scotland in the playoffs.

 

I still don't understand the format of the Nations League even after googling it. We're playing in the playoffs and I think the winner moves up to League A?

 

But then there's also quarter finals, semi finals and a final to work out who the actual winner of the Nations League Cup is and presumably they  get into the WC?

We are playing to get into league A yes. The QF/SF/F is for league A teams only. There is no automatic qualifier for the World Cup. Think of it as a glorified friendly tournament.

Right so there is no backdoor into the WC for us through the Nations League now.  Just potential promotion into League A for prestige of sorts and possibly improved FIFA rank (unless we don't do so hot up there).  

The positive in the end is that we have played well enough to move into pot 2 for WC draw.  Realistically we can finish 2nd would need another playoff to go through.  Not the worst scenario.  Unless we win the group that is.  I think I have this right but feel free to correct.

No, you're right, but of course it's better to be in the highest UNL league possible and in Greece's case that's League A if they can overcome Scotland.
