If Netherlands wins the nations league will their position in the qualifying group not count? Could greece finish 3rd and still technically be in the 2 spot ?

Netherlands lost 4-2 I watched the match and they were completely outclassed by Croatia. They got an injury time goal to go to AET. Van Dijk had a terrible game and their backline was exposed. They conceded 2 penalties. I think Greece can go there and create trouble for the Dutch. Hopefully they keep Koeman on for the September match days.

So far in regards for playoffs it looks like Turkey will automatically qualify. Kazakhstan is also in great shape. Georgia is almost guaranteed a p.o spot. Therefor they will be the 1 seed. If we don’t qualify from Group, then we are the 2. Luxembourg and Azerbaijan will jump up to seeds 3 and 4.

Our chances of hosting a playoff semifinal is currently 97%. So that is most likely going to happen. Our best bet is for Turkey to gain automatic qualification and then our path to the Euros goes through Georgia (who just lost to Spain at home 1-7), Kazakhstan, and Luxembourg.

In regards to our group. We essentially need to beat Ireland and Netherlands to have get through.

If we are tied on HTH (we split our matches against each other), what is the next tie breaker?

All tiebreakers for group ranking:

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following tie-breaking criteria are applied:

  1. Higher number of points obtained in the matches played among the teams in question;
  2. Superior goal difference in matches played among the teams in question;
  3. Higher number of goals scored in the matches played among the teams in question;
  4. If, after having applied criteria 1 to 3, teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 3 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams in question to determine their final rankings. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 5 to 11 apply;
  5. Superior goal difference in all group matches;
  6. Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
  7. Higher number of away goals scored in all group matches;
  8. Higher number of wins in all group matches;
  9. Higher number of away wins in all group matches;
  10. Fair play conduct in all group matches (1 point for a single yellow card, 3 points for a red card as a consequence of two yellow cards, 3 points for a direct red card, 4 points for a yellow card followed by a direct red card);
  11. Position in the Nations League overall ranking.

So we are screwed because they scored 3 against us. We would need to beat them 4-0.

We as fans can focus on the real scenario. Us playing Kazakhstan in the semis and then most likely Georgia in the final for a place in Germany. We would be favored against both teams. On paper we demolish these teams. Kazakhstan best player plays at Besiktas, however, most others play in the Kazak league so they will have decent chemistry. They are having a good Euro campaign, beating N. Ireland twice and Denmark at home. Good thing for us is game will be in Greece.

Our playoff path continues to take shape, with Luxembourg confirming their place in the play-offs with a huge 4-1 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina. We may face them in the final or even the semi (if Kazakhstan manage to qualify directly)

On paper they look like tough match-up, they have multiple players who ply their trade in the Bundesliga. Plus a few who play in Turkey and Russia. They have 14 points in qualifying with 2 of their 3 losses coming to Portugal (heavy 6 and 9-0 losses).

As it stands the playoff picture for League C looks like this:

Georgia v Luxembourg

Greece v Kazakhstan

Winners playoff for a spot at Euro 2024.

As noted earlier Kazakhstan may directly qualify meaning we play Luxembourg, and Georgia would face Azerbaijan (most likely)

Greece just have to focus on Kazakhstan. I think they are the toughest team in this path as they have had a good qualification campaign even beating Denmark but we have more talent than them and should go through at home.

Got a bit of bad luck being stuck on the road against Georgia/Luxembourg should we get that far, but if we can't win that(and against Kazakhstan), we shouldn't be at the Euro in the first place.

Group B is Toughest! Group D would have been the same as qualifying. Belgium & Portugal as Pot 1 teams got the best draws

I think only group E would have been better than the draw we got. In saying that Turkey and Czechs won't be easy by any stretch but you would say we are relatively evenly matched, at least on paper. Portugal breezed through qualifying, but I don't know I have a feeling they aren't going to smash the group and will drop points.

Remember, 4 of the 6 best placed third placed sides will also qualify for the round of 16!

We have a way to go until worrying about that though. Let's get to March with all our key players fit and in form.
