There is clear explanation. They sabotaged the national team on purpose to get their way.2 points

We can still come 2nd. We have to win the 4/6 matches and at best draw the games against Italy and Bosnia. It’s up to us...2 points

So if we want to think of it logically and eliminate variables then we are all in agreement we are good enough to beat Estonia, Finland etc. Even though our players are limited we should be getting the job done against teams like Armenia. The coach isn’t a world beater. He is a 4.5-5/10 manager for me. He should be still good enough to coach these players and gets results. So these things didn’t happen. So the problem doesn’t start with the players and coach. If we are to believe the culture in the club is toxic then the EPO are the ones that should be held accountable. There lack of care have cost us 5 years of embarrassment for our standards. If anything needs to be replaced it’s the EPO first then everyone else. Why has it been a recurring theme of losing to teams lower than us? Something is not right and it could get worse if things are not changed. There’s no excuse losing to Faroe islands twice and losing to Estonia and Armenia. The Italy game could have been handled better but it’s more excusable because they have more quality than us. Still we could have given them a run for their money just like we did with Belgium and Croatia in the past. Everything starts at the top. And then slowly goes down to team. We need more professionalism and better facilities. If we start acting the part as a whole then we will start playing the part. Corruption is killing the team. Instead of choosing players on skill, merit and form. Football is no longer looked at as a sporting competition where you get the best players to win. It has become a business and money is the root to all evil.2 points

I disagree for me this took balls by Socrates and Monolas to finally stand up and say something, they don’t have to play for the team they could be enjoying there holidays but they choose to be with the team and if they didn’t care they would keep there mouth shut but instead the want to succeed and it truly hurts them so they take charge and walk into the EPO office and demand change for the better of the team.. Yes Maybe there should be certain things not said in public but Socrates and Monolas said “Many many players came up to them and expressed there concern” so for me I give them credit for giving a s%$#! and demanding change for the better of the team.. This team has only won 14 out of 46 games in the last 5 years since the 2014 World Cup so I’m glad Socrates and Monolas have decided to step up and say something as these number are truly disgusting...1 point

Good analysis, Manolas too his credit was standing cheering the team on and you could see the agony in his face when they were down. The EPO keeps screwing everything up they should have hired someone other than Angelo after they fired Skibbe perhaps we wouldn’t be sitting on 4 points after 4 matches in a relatively easy group and having our key players saying they will retire because of the current coach. Greece needs to get back to stability as we had during the Rehhagel/ Santos years. Looks like we will soon be on to our sixth coach in five years that’s what you see happening to the likes of Bulgaia, Romania, Hungary’s etc..The EPO needs to spend more money for the best available coach and stop this carousel.1 point

Imagine never playing a position and your coach, 1 hour before game time tells you that you are up. Naturally, you will struggle. The annoying thing is that he held a camp for 2 weeks beforehand to get his team ready. What were they doing?1 point

I don’t disagree. But come on guys. Manolas and sokratis are making millions and they lost to guys putting up drywall for 15 bucks an hour. That’s no ones fault but the players.1 point

From HellasFooty (twitter account) Some interesting behind the scenes details about the ethinki have emerged today. Siovas was told just one hour before the game that he will have to play left-back. He explained to Anastasiadis that he has never played in that position before so the manager changed formations. During the game vs Armenia the Goalkeeper coach and the physio almost got into a fight (!). They had to be seperated by players. Basinas made the decision to bring on Siopis and Kolovos, with Anastasiadis later being upset that they subbed off Pelkas. A complete lack of organisation and as one ethinki player was quoted saying "These things only happen in Sunday League football" Yea, time for a change!!!1 point

When Soc started, we had Kyriakos, Seitaridis, Patzatsoglou Torosidis. As well as Katsouranis and Karagounis. More or less players with much more experience that helped him with NT. He was the youngest at the 2010 WC at 22. He started well and stayed that way. I never like to see us change our back 4 unless injuries or suspension. Certainly not from one match to the next. Look at France and Croatia in WC 2018. They changed the odd player here or there but never their back 4. Absolute total stability. This is one thing Scibbe did well, I think. Now compare that with our current NT and the 5-6 games Anastasiadis has been in charge. Not one single match has he used the same backline. With formation changes from one match to the next and during matches. Total instability. When Anastasiadis drops Toro and brings in a Kotsiras (uncapped) and a Mavrias (? how many has he played <5) then changes LB, CB and RB every match and then drops Manolas and changes GK every match and can't decide on a formation then you can start to imagine what our experienced players think. This is just one problem with the coach, as other points have already been made. He must go. Rumors are that Ouzounidis, Dellas are possible replacements. Yes, I would take either in the current climate to get us through qualifiers otherwise we will completely implode.1 point

I forgot about this found it on Wikipedia.... 2015 Greek football scandal[edit] Main article: 2015 Greek football scandal The 2015 Greek football scandal emerged on 6 April 2015 when prosecutor Aristidis Korreas' 173-page work was revealed. Telephone tapping operated by the National Intelligence Service of Greece since 2011 has played a significant role in the case.[19] According to the prosecutor's conclusion, Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis along with HFF members Theodoros Kouridis and Georgios Sarris, were suspected of directing a criminal organization since 2011. The goal behind their scheme was allegedly to "absolutely control Greek football's fate by the methods of blackmailing and fraud",[20][21][22][23][24][25] exploiting the self-governing ("autonomy") status of national football federations promoted by FIFA and UEFA. In 2016, a temporary administration was placed by FIFA and UEFA due to the scandal. On 28 December 2017 an envelop with a bullet was sent to the new president Evangelos Grammenos.[26] After an attack to a Greek referee (Thanasis Tzilos) in December 2018, the Greek government announced its intension for the creation of a football anti-terrorist unit. According to the Greek Police, the National Intelligence Service and the case file, all the persons involved in the attack were employees of Evangelos Marinakis.[27]1 point

Sok - Does not look like a diva. Manolas was rooting for the team the whole game, you kept watching him on the sideline, standing half the time!! They care, that's why they said what they said.1 point

I agree, not the first time Papastathopoulos has made statements like this, not the right message for young players and from our leader. Anastasiadis has every right to say, if you think we have no hope you shouldn’t be part of this. On his side, coach needs to look at some of these call ups and if we have premadonas in the squad that’s a bigger issue. I’m personally starting to question the motivation of Socrates, Manolas & Toro... why did Toro have a bif with Angelo? Or visa versa... our experienced guys seem to be crying and playing the worst (exc Fortounis) - think about it1 point

I have and they are terrible but they are realistically good enough to achieve 2nd. They won’t be 2nd if they continue playing like this.1 point

I think at this point we should all throw our hats in to be manager lol1 point

Forget these old school coaches we need a younger guy that values skill and will look and play our most skill players, a coach that can build a current and modern system soccer has changed from the years of Otto. Our biggest problem to address is our midfield if we can’t fix that we will never be competitive it’s our biggest downfall..1 point

Things are getting out of hand, Sokratis and Manolas have told the EPO to fire Ange as they are angry about Torosidis being left of the squad. This is a contributing factor to the results this past week, the players who are there should focus on getting results and not who didn’t get a call up. For God sakes we are trying to qualify for a Euro, this is the most important thing for the team and the country.1 point

Samaris is the main problem, once again today I cringed as I watched him cheaply give the ball away and make so many bad passes and decisions with the ball. He has been so awful the last three matches.1 point

Then they should leave. Even if he’s the worst coach ever, inmates should never run the jail. Shut up and play. Are the little tiny millionaires feeling hurt. Awwww1 point

I may be attacked for my unpopular opinion but having watched both interviews i think I’m starting to understand. 1st off I am positive sokratis will be there next game. In no way do I interpret what he said as “I’m not playing and we suck” he was using his name as a metaphor for other players/staff members who should be held accountable. And that management should look and hold ANYONE accountable. Sokratis was speaking in a way to avoid calling out people. He may be referring about other players. Personally I was thinking of samaris the entire time. Like sokratis highly rated at club level, he might not have a place with the ethnicity. He has been horrendous, and has directly cost us Several goals. Sokratis said with the way the team is playing CURRENTLY they don’t deserve. He did say there is time and Finland won’t be the final match to determine the outcome. I appreciate his honesty and lack of excuses. 2. I don’t mind the coach. I think he should stay. First and foremost, the fact that his Greek always was a plus for me because he truly cares about the team outside of the confines of his paycheck. I think the example he made with the goalies who have honestly performed decent in my opinion, was in reference that this team is building chemistry with one another, which is something that can’t be measured but it’s invaluable especially for a national team that does not meet on a daily basis the way club teams do. Also the line up that was fielded today looked good to me, Manolas was a shock, But we also don’t know what happens off cameras. Maybe he needed a rest, or he was injured in training. Now I can’t blame the coach like he said for particular STUPID passes that happen during a game that cause dangerous counter attacks. Mistakes do happen but once it’s game time the coach has little influence on what happens on the field. upsides I took from this game was fortounis performance, although I still feel he lacks a bit of vision and he takes too long to make decisions. Also I’m glad koulouris was finally given a shot at 90 min. Although he didn’t receive too much service. I would love to see a line up without samaris in it. Or at least maybe put him in as a sub (and see how that affects our first half performances) also the lack of support from the Greek fans saddens me. Idc how bad your team is playing booing them off at the half isn’t going to help. BELIEVE ME I understand the frustration but as much s%$#! as I talk I will always follow the team.1 point

What is surprising is how much faster the Armenians were than the greek defense. It was scary. And the problem is than none of the young players (apart from limnios) have any speed.1 point
