Argy Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 On August 30th 2017, Retsos (19) was sold to Bayer Leverkusen from Olympiacos for €22 million, the most expensive fee ever paid for a Greek footballer. http://www.ksta.de/image/28368190/2x1/940/470/e8ff40185c7c7b654e460ec4e3b4497c/Hr/b04-panagiotis-retsos-bucco-2.jpg 1
Greekaroos Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Greece has built a reputation of producing world class defenders, ever since Euro 2004. Lucky to have Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Kostas Manolas & now Panagiotos Retsos being part of Greece's national team & with their ages between 19 & 29 we should have a few more good years of all four available.
paokarag4 Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 A start and a full 90 for him, as he made his debut in a thumping 4-0 win for Bayer against Freiburg 2
Argy Posted September 19, 2017 Author Posted September 19, 2017 He was named MOTM in his first start for Bayer. 1

Bundesliga website says Kavin Volland was MOM: Quote Man of the match Germany's forgotten striker? Not any more! Volland put in by far his most efficient display since joining Leverkusen from Hoffenheim in summer 2016. Joachim Löw, take note! 1
Argy Posted September 22, 2017 Author Posted September 22, 2017 (edited) I just got to the bottom of this. I saw this on Agona Sports. He was voted MOTM by fans on Leverkusen's official twitter account. My bad, but Agona's misleading title is a little to blame. Nonetheless, he must have had a solid debut. Vorfruede Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 https://www.transfermarkt.com/panagiotis-retsos/leistungsdaten/spieler/324351 Played as a right back full-90 against schalke which ended 1-1.
Dean97 Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 (edited) This is good to see. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1918527405135192&id=1598480473806555 Edited October 27, 2017 by Dean97
Dean97 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 http://outsideoftheboot.com/2017/11/28/scout-report-panagiotis-retsos/ A good read. 1
Brklyngrk Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Retsos started his first game back from injury, got hurt in the 34th minute and had to be subbed out. Not sure how serious it was...

Brklyngrk Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 RETSOS FACES ANOTHER LONG LAY-OFF Panagiotis Retsos faces a long time on the sidelines. The Greece international suffered a muscle and tendon injury in the back of his left thigh playing for Bayer 04 on Thursday night. Retsos was making his first appearance of the season in the Europa League match between the Werkself and Bulgarian champions Ludogorets (1-1). The 20-year-old had just completed a long period of rehabilitation following an injury to his right thigh. The medical section at Bayer 04, in discussion with Retsos, will determine the treatment required now at the start of next week.
Dean97 Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Yeah it’s not good news but it’s not the end of the world. He is till very young and has time but I would’ve liked to see what he could do this season.
Argy Posted December 3, 2018 Author Posted December 3, 2018 Kyriakos Papadopoulos 2.0. World class potential at a very young age, but injury prone. Let's hope he doesn't continue with this pattern. His season is now a complete wash.
Dean97 Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 I don’t think he is injury prone. Just unlucky season. This injury is his first serious one. Hoepfully he doesn’t end up like K.Paps.

Hoepfully he doesn’t end up like K.Paps. Yes it's his first one, but he's also only 20 years old. When did K Pap start getting hurt? Probably around the same age. Not saying he will end up like that, but I just don't want to see another wasted Greek talent. 1
Dean97 Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 (edited) I agree. I thought K.Papadopoulos at 20 years old was better than Retsos at 20 years old. Hopefully Retsos can keep healthy in his career and I think he will. His playing style is more cautious than aggressive. Papadopoulos was way over aggressive and that his bit him in the ass in my opinion. Edited December 4, 2018 by Dean97
Brklyngrk Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 He's out for the remainder of 2018 - two to three months
Bardouuu Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Any update on his injury? Could really be of use to Greece with Torosidis out would be nice to have him as a RB
Argy Posted September 19, 2019 Author Posted September 19, 2019 He doesn't even have a place on the bench at Leverkusen. It will be an uphill battle for him to get fit and earn a spot after this brutal injury.
paokarag4 Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 Looks he's on his way to Italy and he's joining Lykogiannis at Cagliari on loan with an option for them to buy him in the summer. Hopefully he's a starter. https://www.sport24.gr/paraskinio/24o-evaggelio/24o-eyaggelio-pros-kaliari-o-retsos.5672774.html
Alphonse Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 Very happy with this move, 6th in Italy and looking to stay European birth so plenty to play for as its not happening with Leverkusen
