I think Ivic rested a few players vs Fiorentina so that they can focus on Asteras. Here's my guess (perhaps optimistic) for our lineup:

                   --Glykos--

  --Matos--Crespo--Tzavellas--Leovac--

       --Canas--Charisis--Cimirot--

    --Campos--Pereyra--Rodrigues--

While I agree that Varela will eventually take over the starting CB position, I think Ivic will rely on Crespo due to his having partnered with Tzavellas so many times already. I also think that he's going to sit out Klaus entirely for this one - and may start Koulouris over Pereyra.

I wonder if we'll eventually see a 3-5-2 come out again. We have a poor record away vs Asteras, so he might go even more defensive...

It's difficult to predict what Ivic could do.  If anything, he's proven he's flexible concerning systems, which is a good thing.  I can't stand "system" zealots who swear by this or that system.  It all depends on who the opposition is, the state of your squad, and the status of the current game you're playing.  Kudos to Ivic in the Fiorentina game switching to a 3-5-2.  It was required as they were looking like they could score any minute.

Regarding the player selection, again Ivic has been unpredictable so far.  Pelkas starting against Fiorentina ?  Pereyra not in the squad vs Ajax ?  Regardless, it's time Charisis and Mystakidis start getting a run.  Not necessarily in this match but in general.

Regarding Varela, I like what I saw in the Fiorentina game.  I think this guy is the real deal.  He could be our best signing in a long time.

Matos is by far the best signing we've had in a LONG time.  Between him and Rodrigues we're gonna have some serious cash to play with next summer, maybe even this winter.

I predict an absolute shellacking of Asteras with authority.  Gamisi xoris salio....3-4 goals.  I'll be putting my winnings from the Fiorentina game on the over...

Gamisi xoris salio...you actually had that in your wedding vows, didn't you? It's not okay to plagiarize yourself, bro.

That's the thing, we've BARELY seen him. If he's on par with Matos, I predict a great few years.

Agreed that Rodrigues is going to be our next big sale, but I don't think Matos is going to fetch a high price. We're getting him at the tail end of his "prime." If we can get two or three years of productivity out of him, though, it'll be great. He's absolutely solid as RB. Speed, strength, can attack, a better dribbler than all but two or three of our players...real happy with him.

Gamisi xoris salio ... hmmm, so many thoughts running through my brain, not enough time ha ha.

Regarding Matos, he's definitely a SUPERSTAR as far as the GSL is concerned.  Not so sure about the EL as his flank was exposed by Fiorentina multiple times.  It's likely Fiorentina did their homework and knew he's a very attacking RB and played into the holes he left at the back, so I wouldn't say it's his fault as such.  This is where having 2 sold CB's makes the difference as it allows the RB and LB to attack with less fear.

Either way, I'm ecstatic with him as a signing.  Couldn't really ask for much more.  His fitness and energy are very good for his age.

One thing I've noticed with our signings this year are that they were concentrated in the defensive half of the team.  Brkic, Matos, Crespo, Varela, Canas.  This is a good thing as our defense has been porous for the last 3 seasons.

A defense made of Matos, Varela, Tzavellas, Leovas with Canas sweeping in front of them looks so much stronger than Kitsiou, Vitor, Tzavellas, Leovac and Cimirot.

Anyway, let's see how it plays out with Asteras.  I've got some loob handy just in case ...

Asteras missing a few first 11 players and after the heavy loss to Panionios the pressure is on ex- PAOK coach Havos but if Thanatos from Boston wants to bet on PAOK winning by 3 then he will lose his $$$.

Asteras win or draw! Pame Arkades!!!

We had like 5 corners and 5 other set pieces in the first 15 minutes, but nothing to show for it. Looks like a parked school bus in front of Tripoli goalie.

It's nice to see in Koulouris, when the coach gives you a chance you go and grab it. This has to make Klaus sit down, think and try to do better. Competition is good.

Great. It is always the strenght of #12 till #18 that make the difference at the end with al the injuries and suspended players in March, April and May.
