on the contrary to what some might want you to believe  I am not against old players,i am against old players playing in positions that require young legs, fitness and high work rate,i haven't said one negative thing about tavlaridi and he is older than the croats.

I was against petric because he was starting in front of karelis, when karelis is clearly the better player and works much harder for the team,if petric and kareli play 1v1 kareli will beat him 10 - 0

as for pranjic he came here as a left back, wing back, anastsiou sticks him in the midfield, which is where you need mobility and hard work ,zeka, abeid, lagos type players,he wasn't playing him as a dekari if he was we could compensate but as a center or holding mid and we paid the price, just look at xanthi game which we lost 4-2 petric pranjic and mendez were woeful no work ethic at all they didn't have the legs.

now pranjic if you believe the media reports will replace nano at left back, good this is his position, this is where he has always played ,he can pick and time his runs from there and allow some young energetic midfielders to do the dirty work ,scrap and fight for every inch ,this is not pranjcs go,to beat brugge we must win the midfield battle this is true for most games.

when you lose the ball and this happens a lot in football ,what happens in the next  3-5 seconds is crucial, that transition from attack to defence and vica versa is crucial and you need  players like zeka etc in that midfied to win that ball back as soon as it is lost,or when it is won to go from defence mode to attacking mode all this requires hard work and fitness and speed.

and this is the problem we face with essien.

the midfield is for mobile players,at left back pranjic with his experience can set and go at his own pace and pick when to overlap etc and im sure at left back he will do a good job.

if nano is fit he can sit on the bench.

The friendly result against Udinese and the defence deficiencies is the best outcome leading into the Brugge match. It has highlighted what most people suspect, the defensive line needs more time to gel together, especially where Wemmer, Sanchez and Pranjic are all playing in new roles.

It is now up to Anastasiou to play the right formation to cover our defensive shortcomings, a 4-3-2-1 may have to be considered. Put Koutroubi in front of the defenders with Zeca and Lagos in front of him. Then Lod and Ajagun can cover the front half with Berg up front. Play down the flanks with the full backs.

The key is to conceded no goals in the first leg, a nil all result will be a positive. Our back 4 alone will not be able to keep a clean sheet.
