Euro2004
England scored an 83rd min penalty to win the game away in Skopje by 1-2. England had to come from behind and the table now looks like this. Group 9 Teams Pld W D L GF GA Pts Greece 2 2 0 0 4 1 6 England 1 1 0 0 2 1 3 Portugal 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Lithuania 1 0 0 1 0 1 0 F.YROM 2 0 0 2 2 5 0 If FYROM held on it would have been a great result for us. Now the game at home to England is crucial, we must get a result, in reality a win. With Ninis, Papastathopoulos and Pliatsiakas in the men's team we'll be weaker than usual but hopefully the boys can pull it out the hat and win the game. Euro2004
Greece just drew 1-1 with England in Tripoli. Overall it was a very disappointing result for Greece because the boys were the much better team and Mitroglou had a nightmare game, missing 3 one on ones. Ninis was brilliant, showed real class at times. England scored after 5 mins. Greece then took control and dominated possession. Ninis running the show and Dimoutsos looking very neat. Boukouvalas was also great at left back. Defensively Greece were poor though. K.Papadopoulos had a terrible game, Rose tore him apart for England's goal and he looked very heavy-legged throughout. Pliatsikas was certainly the worst player on the pitch, he gave the ball away cheaply when the scored and he didn't put a foot right in the entire game. Because we were so poor at the back they were able to create 2 big opportunities (excluding their goal). England didn't do anything else though and Greece missed 5 very good chances, 2 of them sitters. Overall Greece will be very disappointed not to have won. The team needs to tighten at the back. Euro2004
Greece beat Portugal 2-1 today in a highly passionate game. The game was sloppy but it was a relief to come through it. Koutsianikoulis gave us the lead after merely 3 mins. Dimoutsos then hit the post before Giannis Papadopoulos missed a one on one. These were isolated instances in an otherwise sloppy first half. In the 2nd half Portugal were dominating possession. We couldn't find a rhythm and they won the midfield. K.Papadopoulos and Boukouvalas were superb at the back though and Portugal couldn't create a chance. On 81 mins Mitroglou went through on goal but miscontrolled the ball before shooting. We were punished as Portugal scored from a corner 3 mins later. In the final min of the game we won a free kick, Soiledis' delivery was met by K.Papadopoulos whose excellent header wonm the game for Greece at the death! Great result but the performance left something to be desired. The coach, Nioblias, believes we were sloppy because most of the young players aren't playing for their clubs and he called for them to be given a chance. In all honesty most of them deserve first team football anyway. With England surving a scare to beat FYROM 6-3(!) the table now looks like this: TEAMS..........Pld......W....D....L....PTS: Greece .........4.........3....1.....0....10 England.........3.........2....1.....0....7 Portugal........2.........1....0......1....3 Lithuania.......2.........0....1......1....1 FYROM..........3.........0....1......3.....1 We need at least draws in England and Portugal and we'll make it. :gr:
Crazy
Greece-Lithuania 1-0 A diving header from Vassilis Koutsianikoulis proved enough for Greece to defeat Lithuania in Tripoli Arkadia and extend their advantage at the top of Group 9. Dipping volley Although Nikolaos Nioplias's side dominated possession in the first half they created no scoring opportunities of note as Lithuania kept plenty of bodies behind the ball. Koutsianikoulis was Greece's liveliest player throughout, and gave a warning of what was to come with a dipping volley which just missed the target on 74 minutes. Fine header Six minutes later the PAOK FC winger made no mistake, beating Vytautas Černiauskas with a fine header from a Giannis Papadopoulos cross for the only goal. Lithuania rallied after falling behind and went close to equalising in the 88th minute as a powerful Arvydas Novikovas shot from range bounced to safety off the crossbar. England challenge Greece have 13 points from five unbeaten outings in the section, leaving them six points clear of an England side who could draw level by winning their two games in hand. Both of the pacesetters meet Portugal in their next fixtures – England at Wembley on 14 November, Greece in Olhao three days later. Lithuania are at the foot of the table with one point from four matches.
drakos13
Koutsianikoulis looked very good yesterday....I'm starting to get the impression he's making strides this season and could be forcing himself onto the senior team in the next year or so. A lot of flair, talent and speed..... Other than that, team only won 1-0 against Lithuania, but they were overly dominant 90 mins and Lithuania barely looked threatening. Was a matter of patience to get the goal.

Euro2004
Greece play a huge game away at England tomorrow (8pm kick off Greek time). We're 2 points ahead of them with a game in hand. A win would put us in a great position, a loss and we can forget the World Cup. I can't find any links to who has been called up to the squad though. Does anyone have a link? Euro2004
Thanks Cyber. I hope Papasta marks Rose who is tricky and K.Papa on Sturridge who is big and strong. Other than that we need to be ready for a battle in midfield. We need big games from our big players.

Euro2004
We're already missing Ninis, not much creativity in the team. We're getting on the ball and looking long most of the time.
Genome
Koutsianikoulis is a joy to watch... Koustianikoulis, Ninis, Mitroglou ... all names I am happy about to have on our side and it'll be nice to see them play for our NT and wreak havoc. Papadopoulos with a shot from a free kick, just over.

Euro2004
Koutsi looks lively, hopefully he can find some space. He'll be vital if we're going to get anything from this game. Mitroglou needs to get a bit livelier because he's just strolling at the moment. To beat England you always have to be ready to work hard

Genome
0-1 for Greece by KYRGIAKOS PAPADOPOULOS! The initial Papastathopoulos header was cleared of the line but the rebound was neatly worked in!
Euro2004
Guys Dimoutsos is a lovely footballer. What nice technique. He's a great build too. I really am confused as to why he's playing in the second division. He'd walk into a mid-table team and would offer alot to a team like Kavala too GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Euro2004
good thing he still belongs to pao  Yeah I know but let's face it he'll never be given a chance. I'm stunned that a superleague manager didn't come in for him as loan option. If I was manager I'd use him as a sub consistently. He's at least on a par with Petropoulos, Lazaro, Rukavina, etc.
