Amazing effort! And to beat a german in the final makes it all the more sweeter. Deservedly she will become the face of greece now.
-
Blackhawk was putting up a list of athletes with greek roots competiting for other countries, so surely he counts.
-
You missed the Greek American kid that got the bronze in fencing.
-
Were they going off an ioc script or something? Because the 2 broadcasts mentioned almost identical things.
-
Apparently when the skops came out the channel 7 Australia and nbc America coverage labelled Alexander the Great and Phillip as 2 great Macedonian athletes or something along those lines, anyone watch it? Social media is lighting up. What a slap in the face.

The fall out from this debacle will be interesting to see. These players would not be wanting to return to greece right now. The season is effectively over before its started, generally our year dies around christmas. If anything this will surely pave the way for a genuine title race. This team could realistically slip to 3rd or 4th in the super league. Where are the goals going to come from? May as well forfeit the europa qualifiers cos whoever we draw we wont be winning.
-
Simply disgusting. Wont qualify for the group stage of europa either.

Santos is a results based orientated coach which IMO is perfect for international football. His philosophy is to make his teams hard to beat irrespective of game style. He would have have found a way to get us to this tournament I have no doubt about that. Yes his 3 draws in the group stage looked terrible on paper but with the new format 3 points and a 0 Gd is all you need to get through, as I said he finds a way. The only thing that annoys me is dumping ranieri so quickly, obviously he looks a million bucks now after what he did at Leicester, but having him go through a failed qualifying campaign would have given him enough time to see how to build this team in a new qualifying campaign, with skibbe we are sort of back at square one late 2014 as the games he has coached have basically been dead rubbers.

Copa America Centenario - USA 2016
Greekoz replied to Dutch Eagle's topic in Other Soccer Topics and Issues
as the host country a deep run is not a huge surprise, but klinsmann got lucky most of the way through aside from the Costa Rica game. I don't see how the team has moved forward quality wise under klinsmann, the best soccer I've ever seen the US play was the 2002 World Cup. And 2010 wasn't bad. As far as Landon Donovan goes clearly it was personal, but a player of his experience would have been perfect to bring on late in games, he delivered in major tournaments, wondolowski is just a typical MLS finisher who will score against crap concacaf teams. -

Think it's time for the US to part ways with klinsmann, what's he done that American coaches hadn't done before him? Negative coach thats taken them about as far as he can, they have some good young talent coming through like pulisic, nagbe etc but he sticks with duds like wondolowski, still can't believe that idiot didn't take Landon Donovan to the last World Cup. Playing on home soil and can't even get a single shot away.. That's on top of the Ecuador game where klinsmann takes off Dempsey (reliable goal threat) and then looks surprised that no one can hold the ball up front...Ecuador could have scored 5 goals in the last 10 mins, his substitutions and game strategy are laughable. -
I'm almost ready to pull the plug on this club, humiliating 4-0 cup defeat at bentleigh tonight and once again not only do we Fail in a big game but we get embarased. No idea how these s%$#! cvnts are top of the league, and the coach can get F***ed as well, sick to death of our dour defensive style of play. Our club was built on attacking football and having a go, everything the club stands for is being ripped to shreds, I don't care if we lose but do it the south way go down swinging, no Fkn 10 men behind the ball treating some hack suburban team like they're barca playing at the camp nou.

I find the Australian media to be very tiring after all these years, every soccer headline in the past use to be "soccer shame"..now they have added terrorist to the list of buzz words they use to try create a storm. They could not find one instance of violence yet that's how they reported it. So many news worthy stories out of Melbourne that they could have run this week and they picked out a festive football crowd to pick on, they thrive on it. Could you imagine if Australia was filled with Latinos who are even more hardcore than us European wogs? They would die lol. This will die down and then next week they will run a Bernard Tomic or nick Kyrgios story to run just to keep the casual racism ticking over. I just try tune out now.

I honestly believe our players backed out a little in the 2nd half fearing injury, vellios wanted to smash one of the Aussie defenders, one of the commentators said at half time that if if was a serious match Australia may have received a few red cards, don't get me wrong we commited lots of fouls as well but they were actually smashing our players. The last 10-15 minutes were a hell of a lot more comfortable then I expected. I'm really glad we won this game because the pedigree of our players is just so much higher then the aussies, we put them in their place, if we just had that one extra creative outlet like fourtounis to pick out the right pass we could have had a huge win.
-
Best organised we have looked for a long time, Australia only threatened from corners, never looked like doing anything in general play. I believe we were happy to drop off more in the 2nd half out of fear of the Aussie rugby players sending us to the hospital. Samaris was the stand out player on the field, we have a bit to work with here, add the missing players into the mix as well. Obviously the 1st half was the standout, the high press and winning the ball in our attacking half, something that's not associated with our team.
-
Of course we are behind, we ended up in the ass end of the world lol, people in Greece think we are stuck in a 1970s time warp, we get sucked into these rubbish intra city rivalries like it means anything. Who gives a stuff how many people turned up to an airport or a training session, only we would bicker over something so trivial.
-
Im from melbourne and i tend to be the opposite. I like to back up and protect my fellow greeks from sydney, adelaide, ny, toronto etc. We are ALL the SAME and these clowns have to make it all about themselves. Maybe this is cos im getting older but they come across as very childish. Its not about being better, its about being a united greek diaspora. A lot of what they say reeks of greek cafe talk in melb and chest beating about how we are better than everyone. Its a joke. They crossed the line when they bagged out fellow greeks. And then crossed it further with that ridiculous post match rant on the team. I wanted to post something on their page but thought better of it cos they would just end up attacking me.
-
The hellas fan club of melbourne are arrogant and at times an awful look for the greek community. No need for them to bag out sydney greeks last week. None of them went to the airport either and at most 100 people were at the training session and the majority would not have been from them. The melbourne wing of hfc needs to pull its head in and stop living off that one night 10 years ago, a night that easily would have been replicated in sydney and other parts of the world. They just come across as show offs. Word on the street is tonights match will struggle to beat sydneys crowd. But greeks from the rest of the country wont ridicule. Hope the march goes well and doesnt descend into chaos. As for the aussie greeks calling up radio stations...stuff them and their self hating ways. Whilst im at it fcuk the ffa who tried to rort our community with absurd ticket prices..not the pay day these malakes were hoping for.
-
I couldnt be bothered sticking around 90 minutes for the training session last night and went home after the npl match..people waited around for 20 minutes and said stuff it, weather was crap as well. Its true about the brand and the very very long wait we will have to see this team again. The ffa had delusions of sell out crowds based on what happened 10 years ago. The reality is back in 2006 the ethniki would have packed out any stadium in australia, usa, canada and even germany. Those days are dead.for the next couple of decades this team wont venture out of europe that much aside from the odd trip across the atlantic to play in the states. Forget about them coming to the other side of the world any time soon..provided we dont host a world cup of course. I just hope they give us 1 goal to cheer tomorrow night so we can at least have a memory to hold onto...even if it means we lose 2-1

Hellas Vs Socceroos In June. Two Matches Hopefully.
Greekoz replied to ausgreek's topic in Greek National Teams
Yeh don't see the point in such negativity, the only reason I'm not going is cos I went 10 years ago, saw my heroes in the flesh and put it down as a once in a lifetime thing, I'll see the current group train on Sunday which is something at least, plus it's a great opportunity for Sydney Greeks who missed out last time. Make the most of this cos you may not see the Greek nt here again for decades. -

Well it's just the 1 session, but it's all kinda rushed.
