PAE PAOK General News (2016-2017)

I haven't seen anything recently, the team's mostly been posting Christmas-y stuff.

As for the goal of the year - I voted for Mistakidis. Rordrigues' goal was the most important, but not particularly spectacular; I think they should have chosen a different one. Wonderful goal by Cimirot but Mistakidis was the most entertaining for me.

Hard choice between Cimirot and Rodrigues. Leaning towards Cimirot's goal, but surprisingly Mystakidis is winning by a wide margin right now.

The reason he is back is for legal reasons. He has the upper hand in any negotiations to end his contract. PAOK needs to make it clear to him, that if he is not flexible that he will sit around for the next 4 years doing nothing, and hopefully causing him to lose his spot on the NT. Let's see if after that at age 33 he will find any team that will want him. Also, PAOK needs to inform all the other PAOK players that have the same manager to either get a new one, or forget about getting any contract extensions.

I wouldn't say he has the upper hand.  Maybe he does if the club is silly, but if the club stick to their guns and don't play him and then his NT spot becomes jeapardised, he'll move on himself.  It all comes down to if Savvidis is willing to play the long game.

He's playing the waiting game, as pretty much everyone on this forum has already said. Exactly what happened with Anastasiadis. This is why I think if Ivic has any chance at all, it's to go pretty much unbeaten for the remainder of the season - which is a tall order.

Tzavellas knows he has minimum another 6 months of NT selection even if he doesn't kick a football in that time at club level - just like Maniatis and Tziolis have. Tzavellas has PAOK wrapped round his finger atm. He is waiting for a new PAOK manager. The situation is not complicated, it is very simple.

Fully agree about the 6 months.  And based on the precedent set by Skibbe fully agree that waiting out the 6 months or so is probably the best move for Tzavellas.  But this is where I said earlier it all depends on Savvidis and if he's prepared to play the long game.  It all depends on how PAOK performs (or doesn't).  Whether Ivic is still manager in the summer (now wouldn't that be nice, a PAOK manager who lasts a whole season!!).  But if by some miracle Ivic is still manager then Tzavellas will know it's time to move on.  He can play the mangaki and collect the cash but by that point even he'll concede it's time to move on.  Either that or Savvidis has to come out and say from now that whoever the manager is, Tzavellas will still never have a future at PAOK.  But if that was the case, he would have said that already ...

Who needs Greek Drama TV series when we have PAOK!

And I just read this.  Please let it be true.

After losing at home against Atromitos we played 10 official games in Greece (SL and cup), scoring 22 goals and conceeding only two. It is a pity that those two conceeded goals led to a 1-0 defeat (PAO and PAS).

In 16 league matches we conceeded 11 goals (of which 4 in that crazy game against Atromitos) and got 9 clean sheets. In the cup we played four games. All of them with a clean sheet.

Statistically we do well. But do we really? My feelings say no.

The only games where we played poorly and were outplayed were against Qarabag.  In the GSL we lost to Olympiakos, Panionios, Atromitos and PAO and in none of those games were we outplayed.  I'm not saying we deserved to win them but neither did we deserve to lose either.

The good signs are that we actually have a stable GK and defence for the first time in ... I can't remember how long.  As much as I love Malezas (club man through and through) if we can get another quality CB in the summer we're cruising in defence.  Also, Biseswar was so overweight and unfit at the time so that didn't help and Campos had a bad dip in form.

The team is creating tons of chances.  I pray this new striker is decent, I don't expect wonders but just decent.  With a couple of quality summer signings for depth and hopefully the same basic core starting next season, this can be a really good team.

If we start with the same core next season, and win the playoffs this season, getting through at least one round of CL qualification is definitely possible. We just need to pray for the team to not implode over the next two or three months. We're almost at that time of year again after all.

I hope with his past few appearances Pereyra has made it hard for Ivic to bench him in the upcoming matches.  I think if we had a little more confidance in him since the beginning of the season, rather than beating a dead horse (Klaus), we could be singing a different tune right now.  I think we'd have been in 2nd place Easily.

Could be, he's one of our best players. Sadly it sounds like he's real close to being loaned out to some Colombian team right now.

With Prijovic we've got, what, five strikers now? Way too many.
