Very incoherent first quarter of the match by Aris, after that a bit better, some combinations, shots. Someone in the Aris-paok thread (Mitos I guess) mentioned already that we missed strikers to be on a higher level. Definitely, if you have Younes and Nazlidis, and refrigerated Diamanatopoulos in roster overall, you can not go for greater things. Also, where problem lies is CDM. Simply if you have Basha, Mantilla, Siopis where 2 of them are usually paired, you can not be concentrated for many minutes plus you are slow. For some reason I don't rate siopis, I like Matilla's passing but sometimes he looks disordered, especially now when confidence is lower. Also, when injuries started early in the season, and when you must rotate at DM and even CD positions, you know problem will start sooner or later. We need to stop this run of losses. Bad is when you potentially could take 0 pts in 2 matches against that bad PAOK and AEK who, truth be told, is kinda out of form and not crisp as last season.

I hope Tziolis and Tzavellas have already put their shirts in the attic.

On second thought I also think Anastasiadis will be better than Skibbe was. He is a strict and demanding coach and will want to see a disciplined team. He wont tolerate lazy guys on the pitch. Probably what the Ethniki needs now is a coach of the Anastasiadis type. Rehhagel and Santos were also no-nonsense men. Otto was a control freak and under Santos players were more disciplined than since 2014 theyve EVER been. Nice guys like Skibbe Iordanescu Ranieri are not for the Greek NT I guess.

It is even silly to me that you start Konstantinidis and Basha in defense, having 50% of positions, plus you have 2 stoppers injured, and you have Sousa who barely play, and only playing when must, etc. cup match, injury sub. The guy is good for locker room atmosphere, if nothing else. I said "nothing else" because probably our coach thinks so. He is a good player, especially as a back up player. Come on, it wasn't a huge sin to be short on Prijović's 2nd goal and it wasn't only his fault to punish him even more to always be on bench. He slided, tried, was just short.

Hopefully this coach is tough with the players and the most in form players are selected for the upcoming matches in November. I wish him all the best and I hope he gets off to a great start with a couple of wins.

The players get part of the blame as well. The first game vs Romania Ranieri called up Mantalos a 2nd div player to make his international debut? in a Euro qualifier? and puts him in the starting 11, surely he could have selected someone else at the time and eased Mantalos into the team. Ranieri after the draw in Finland said the team would be much more focused and better vs North Ireland and pretty much guaranteed a win smiling and laughing with reporters but the team lost in pathetic fashion 0-2. Then came the worst loss in the ETHNIKI history at home to the Faroes with Ranieri looking totally lost during the game on the sidelines on how to make adjustments vs a bunch of fishermen. Ranieri gets a large part of the blame for these results just as Skibbe did with the most recent listless loss to Finland which ultimately costed him his job.

I don't think it will be a disaster... I mean Raneri was a disaster and Skibbe was horrible as well.. I only see an improvement over the past guys we had.. Now if we see Tziolis and Tzavellas called up then I will retract my statement.. Lets not judge the guy on the first game either as with anything there will be a transition period..

Giorgios Samaras will always be my favorite Greek player. He is a good ball handler and passer for a big man. Sure he doesn't score a lot, but has scored key goals in big matches. Happy trails George! ❤️ ?
