Greece - Scotland 1-0 in the first game of the Elite round of the U-19 European Championship. Next game for Greece is against hosts Austria.

In the other game in the group Slovakia defetaed Austria 2-0.

The neon NT has qyualified to the finals of the European Championships. In the last game of the Elite round they defeated Slovakia 2-0.

The draw for the final stage of the U19 European competitionwas made today by UEFA.

Here are the two groups. The top to teams from each group qualify to the semifinals. The final stage will be played in northern Ireland. I am sure Irlandos will be giving us daily reports. :)

What kind of crowds are expected? I remember the U16 youth world cup was held in Scotland in 1989, and the good weather brought out some crowds of almost 10,000 for games not involving the host nation.

Well, considering that the population of "Alba" is 5 times that of "Norn Iron", I suspect we can expect an average of 2,000 per game :P

Other than Windsor Park and the Oval, no other stadium here fits 10,000 persons.

Incidentally, when NI played Greece U-21's at the Oval a couple of years back, only one stand was used.

The hosts Northern Ireland were defeated by Greece in their opening game of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

The only goal in the Group A match came 16 minutes in. Lazaros Christodopoulos's shot was parried by Northern Ireland goalkeeper Paul Willis, and Antonis Petropoulos reacted quickest to score.

In the other fixture in the pool today, Serbia and Montenegro came back from two down to beat Germany 4-2. The Serbo-Montenegrins are the hosts' next opponents on Wednesday in Newry, while Greece take on Germany in Lurgan.

In the opening game of the U-19 European Championhsips, the Greek BNT defetaed Northern ireland 1-0.

I was indeed at the match.

The Greek team was better in the first half and were lucky to go ahead when Willis fumbled a long shot which was then missed by a NI defender before it was tucked away by Petropoulos.

NI hit the crossbar in one of their few organised attacks of the first half.

The second half was not as good: the Greek side allowed too much room and possession to NI who tried to attack using mostly the flanks, yet it was Nioplias' side that had the best chance to score when a shot by one of our forwards - with the GK out of position - was cleared on the line by a NI defender.

The referee did not give us a freekick when GK Kasmeridis was charged by a NI attacker and that led to a shot which fortunately was cleared at the very last moment by a Greek defender.

Towards the end, NI asked for a penalty on a hand ball by a Greek defender but the referee gave a corner kick instead.

Today, Greece play their second match of the tournament v. Germany in Mournview Park, Lurgan (17:00 BST).

In the other group match, N.Ireland tackle Serbia-Crna Gora in the Showgrounds of Newry.

Should Greece and Serbia-CG both win, both will go through to the semis.

PS. I will be missing the Greece game today but will be "reporting" this Saturday from the Oval (Greece-Serbia).
