  1. yes of course they believed they were British hence they fought for the mother land......that's the way I learnt my history growing up.. yet suddenly we have a whole generation of australians who believe the Gallipoli landing lead to our freedom....and we owe our freedom today to their deeds.....another nationalistic twist to history....that has little to do with reality.... I doubt most even know that the ANZACS were not victorious and that more Indians than aussies died in that campaign fighting for Britain..
  2. that goes for millions of such entries for all countries ....... as an Australian I still can't get my head around how the ANZACS charge on the shores of Gallipoli saved 'my country'.....and I how today I enjoy freedom due to their 'braveness'??? nationalistic views and perceptions of war and history are indeed very interesting...to the point they are taboo to question...
  3. I am not a fan of the 3 CD....Nor do I think Karelis should start...he is very average to poor..
  4. greeks are apathetic.....that's why the crowds are so low... not sure how big the interest in football is.....its a tribal primitive passion by a few...but not a sport that is really understood or loved by the greater population... the 5000 v Italy for a friendly a few years ago, is a very symbolic pointer as to how much interest there is in football....
  5. so you want GREECE to be like SERBIA......Seems we are itching towards 'our dream' of becoming the renegades of Europe.. Cuba of the Balkans a place where all the Che Guevara lovers and pony tails can gather and discuss the ills of the west..
  6. match fixing for results is an issue for FIFA/UEFA world wide... Even the evil Marinakis would not be as stupid as you think to try and fix scores/results for high profile matches involving high profile clubs like AEK... The ONLY incentive or driver for score/result fixing is gambling or sports betting.....it's much easier and safer and been shown historically FAR MORE EFFECTIVE TO approach this criminal activity in lower leagues and with obscure teams...not teams of the profile of AEK.... - FACT
  7. why wasn't the penalty given at 0-0?
  8. maybe anesti s actually as good as Peter Cech and Peter Schmichael but he has been paid off as he was the biggest contributor to the result?
  9. as you say we are 18 points clear...so even if the refereeing is red corrupt....???? it doesn't make sense.. however Levadiakos could/should have been awarded a penalty very early...
  10. seemed like the ref blew his whistle quite early in that play??? there could also have been a penalty given to Levadiakos for a tug on the shirt early on? I was also saying to myself before the game....if NT was looking at picking a striker other than Mitro for a game next week, I'd pick Mantzios ahead of Giannou, Vellios,Klaus,Aravidis...
  11. not sure why you are bringing the NT selections into this debate.... the majority of NT squad can be made from players outside GSL... in fact decent and good NT from smaller league based countries have very poor domestic leagues...Croatia, Serbia, Iceland , Northern Ireland, EIRE, Denmark, Sweden, Slovakia, Czech.Rep. etc
  12. should we change the rules when the top team players the bottom team...no penalties allowed?
  13. sadly no... this team has great limitations.... too many players in the squad that are not up to scratch.... the biggest issue is CD.....And we need a Mirallas type attacker to complement Ideye, Tsori, Fortounis, Jimmy... the rest of our forward and wide attacking options are garbage... (for this level)
  14. it was a penalty... he went around him...he still had control of the ball until contact was made... I don't think it was a case of diving in the sinister sense.....it's a natural instinct to know you are going to be taken in that situation...you wait for the contact..its almost expected that the keeper will put physical pressure and contact to try and put you off..
  15. Vellios needs to continue...he is coming off 3 very poor seasons some at a very poor clubs/standard....
  16. he is clearly in our best 11 when playing well..... the back five (including keeper) pick themselves..... add samaris, taxi, fortounis, mitro.... that's only 9 at best.......
  17. I mentioned a few years ago......that the cup games look better than the league games on antenna
  18. there will be more stages...more paperwork..more approvals
  19. yes its a stretch to ask greece to do anything like that.... I want to know why we still have not redeveloped Elliniko ? as a nation we don't understand the basics... Spain, England etc have been at a very high level for a long time.... their lack of trophies over 100 years has more to do with 'losing out on details' in SF, QF, Finals.. WC, Euro comes around every 4 years...very easy to blow a game ...
  20. I can go one better Malbassa
  21. Every club relies on points and being seeded... even the biggest of clubs.. helps them get thru....no doubt...
  22. NOOOOOOOOO
  23. he has gone down hill after his injury, he was OK, prior to that.... The Olympiakos CD is a disaster.....it cost us a R.16 appearance the last two seasons..... it was our weak point in our fist 10-12 years in CL.... we are going back to those days... our only good CD's at UCL level were with Mellberg-Avraam, later Manolas...combinations worked well between 2011-2014..been horrific before that and since..
  24. from that list the Danes would be the best option...followed by Sion, Sparta, Augsburg, St. Etienne, Fener, Gala, Anderlecht maybe Fiorentina... we stand no chance against any of the others over 2 legs...
  25. Germany's quality of football did not improve as simply in a few years with a few quick implementations... they had extremely strong basis and football infrastructure...... they have a massive sporting culture and football pedigree going back 100 years... we lack the know how and basic understanding.... population , mentality go along way... you also pick Germany's 'low point' as being around the era 2000-2004.....they made a WC Final in that period had a won a Euro Final a few years earlier and a WC 10 years earlier....they still had very strong club teams....it is hardly a LOW period by anyone else standards... you describe it as 'structural reform' and 'forward thinking' then you put Greece in the same sentence? I would be interested in how Portugal have been doing things historically? and Belgium recently? to try and learn something and improve our own structures..
