Good work. I never understood why Oakleigh as a Greek club are so hated by Hellas fans. Anyone from Melbourne know the history? Am I incorrect about the rivalry? What about the many other Greek clubs like Port, Heidelberg, Bentleigh, Western Suburbs (the club I trained with in the late 90s).

He wasn't signed to score goals. His goal stats have always been low.

Fortounis was seriously pursued by a number of big clubs when he was at Asteras. Juventus put in abid to take him on loan with an option to buy but he ended up in the Bundesliga with Kaiserslautern. Probably because they offered more money and the better oportunities for first team play. Not really his fault that the team were relegated but true he hasn't been consistent. This might just be his season to step up. I hope that Kaltsas gets the playing time he deserves too. I like this player.

What a backward move. I hope he's on a very good contract because this is career suicide. As far as I'm concerned he shouldn't be selected for the Ethniki until he's back playing in Europe.

I love Zappa. He was an original. Ironically he wasn't a fan of beer nor football of any sort.

Doxa, they aren't signing expensive players so I can't see that being a problem. I think they are being very smart with their recruiting this season.

Where does the money raised go? Pay off debts? Pay expenses? I'm just curious. It's a good idea in theory.

Lol. I think we know what he meant but it didn't come out as intended. Well I know that Greece struggles against Cyprus. As for battling it out against Bosnians, they don't scare anyone anymore. They're on the down. Not as bad as Greece but they're over reliant on Pjanic and Dzeko and these players aren't the same as they are for their clubs. Either way it's f***ing over 1 year away till qualifiers. A lot can happen until then.

Sorry about the torn allegiances. Ideally it would be Greece finishing first and Cyprus second.

All this talk about Turkey and their disputed love/hate from the world reminded me of a an apocryphal quote attributed to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov where to a question from a reporter asking when Ukraine will join the EU he responded "Immediately after Turkey joins the EU." "So when is Turkey joining?" Was the logical followup question. "Never" replied Lavrov, firmly. Turkey is a Islamo-facist state that doesn't even pretend to being the Wests friend any more.

As for you La Mendel, you might still get hard over Katsou and Goonis but that doesn't add to the debate about how we get the Ethniki back to where we all want it.

So Markarian is class for resigning but the same standards or logic don't apply to Karagounis as the TD? Also when Karagounis, Katsouranis, Vydra & Salpi (to name the obvious main culprits) were still carrying their sorry carcasses around the field where was their "class" to admit they weren't good enough and retire? Different standards. Katalava. I think we all want the best for the Ethniki but some on these forums are stuck in 2004.

The Skops of WA are particularly demented. For example they claim the Tombides family as Monkeydonian while itit's obvious that they are Pontian Greeks. Now if the family is confused that doesn't change this fact.

Like I said he's a proud Pontian and in his day was very underrated. Excellent crosser and very quick.

GrkCdn22, I admire your loyalty and passion but I completely disagree with your Karagounis worship. Have you been following what's been coming out about Markarian's resgination and the talk around Karagounis? Karagounis has been the main cause of disfunction in the NT. He has been out of control with his diecsions and bias to the point that Markarian himself was so shocked and dissapointed he didn't want to deal with it. I respect and fondly remember what Karagounis offered to the NT and his teams when he played but those days have long gone. He has shown to have no business around the Ethniki. All the fanboys can blame Ranieri for disastrous state of the NT but I think it's becone obvious and acknowledged that the hiring of Karagounis is the single most destructive decison taken in a decade. Good riddance to him and I hope he stays in the wilderness for many years. He made Takis Fyssas look lik ethe greatest TD in the history of the sport. I have said this before but just because you were part of something great does not give you the right to destroy it. The NT doesn't belong to Otto, or EPO or Santos and definitely not to a former player that was past it for the last 2 years of his career. Hopefully EPO will make a swift and correct decision with the Technical Director position and coach and we build for the next WC.
