Even on paper, Greece should get second place and an automatic qualification to EURO 2020. But, this team always find ways to make it tough on themselves, struggling to get positive results from the likes of Bosnia, Finland, Armenia, and Lichtenstein. I fear that Greece will finish 4th in the group and miss out. ?

What I was trying to say was a lot of unexpected things will happen. Points will be dropped against teams you’re not expecting to drop points to. And points will be gained against favourites also. Last campaign Greece tied Bosnia twice. Drew in Belgium and Bosnia lost to Cyprus. Never look ahead.

This qualifying campaign is a marathon not a sprint. 10 games. Although the game in Bosnia is important it doesn’t make or break the campaign. They need to take it one game at a time. Don’t overlook anyone. Remember Estonia and Finland and Faroe for that matter. Do not look forward. Concentrate on the task at hand.

I've been trying to keep a bit of order and reserve individual threads for the most notable Greek players, mostly those who have featured for the National Team or who are regulars in the senior team of a big club. Aidonis isn't there yet so his progress can be discussed in the Other Greeks Abroad topic until he, hopefully, takes the next step and becomes a regular with Stuttgart and/or makes the NT.

Yeah they haven’t. Especially Bakasetas I don’t think he has ever played a good enough game. He might’ve done ok against Croatia playing as the CAM but nothing special. He is no difference maker by no means. Mantalos I believe is still useful but not as a starter. Just because he is AEK captain dosent mean he deserves a spot. Fortounis has only had a few good games himself. But way more reliable. Every national team game Fetfa has played he has impressed I’m actually surprised in theory Mavrias and Kolovos got picked ahead of him. But we also can’t look at just the individual. Even a players abilty factors there are other things too. Playing out of position can hurt a players performance and also the way the teams tactics are. Play two 6s in the middle isn’t going to be effective for the team going forward. Playing slow and unskillful outwide isn’t going to benefit our momentum going forward. All these things play a role and a good coach should know that. Also some of our players abilities are not good enough. Look at Bakasetas, he plays outwide for AEK too and looks nauseating because he loses the ball and gives away fouls so often. Also he is slow!!! Why does he play there still?!? Mantalos can’t play there either but you could something out of him but not much. Our team play is boring and too predictable. This team needs as many fast and creative players it has in order to get a result. Especially in midfield and outwide. Its hard to believe that Bakasetas gets so much game time at AEK. Can someone please tell me what he adds to a team for either AEK or Greece???

Bakasetas and Mantalos fold under the pressure of the national team. Haven't played a good game in forever.

Surely we don’t see Mantalos or Bakasetas on the wing. Mantalos can help in the central role for sure. Let’s hope, Greece’s biggest handicap has been this obsession with slow central players, played out wide - go figure
