  1. Correct to a certain extent We did top a CL group with a defence of sarriegi, goumas, spyropoulos and Gabriel.. We still have essien to add some extra defensive measure in the midfield too. Everyone needs to chill the F*** out on the forums, it's quite absurd how quickly some of you turn on pao.

  2. One of the better chances we had to get near the CL. But the reality is there's not enough $$ to compete with the wealthier clubs in Europe. The top elite, 6-8 clubs, then there's the second tier of maybe another half a dozen, and the rest are the ..extras to fill the movie scene. The money is astronomical nowadays and the gap is getting bigger. Hard to compete with others when you don't have the money plus a crappy domestic league. In many ways, if your competition gets better you look weaker. Too bad that PAO didn't beat Brugge, but the Belgians although didn't show anything special have a much higher budget, better overall squad. I'll be happy if PAO becomes a serious club in the Europa league and starts kicking ass domestically.

  5. I am sorry, but if you consider this ref (and the Pakistani in the first game) worthy of calling an European game, than you are setting your standards too low.

  10. Barbosa will very much be in the starting 11 for the time being and depending on his form whilst Mantalos is out. Once he returns, once again depending on his form, Vargas may fill his position, depending on his form also. But as things stand he will be starting on the left wing.

  11. To be honest nobody knows what Mel is thinking. The stick he is getting by certain fans on different sites and facebook however is disgusting like someone stated previously considering where AEK would be had it not been for the man. He is hardly going to throw millions of euros out of his pocket on players just to please fans, thats erratic spending, like Amorgos also stated he didn't get to where he is today on erratic spending. Slowly but surely the team is getting tweaked left right and centre on positions that are needed. We needed a RB, we got a RB, we needed a GK we got a GK, we also got a CB and two MF's along with Djebbour. Sure we could do with another winger but the way some fans are dissing him is atrocious and have the same mind frame that lead AEK to the 3rd division in the first place. Its only August 6, a long time before the transfer window closes. Lets take it one day at a time. I'm hoping for a winger on either side, and a left back. We wont be getting another striker. We have Djebbour, Aravidis and Chrisantus. Is Brecevic still on the books? Either way its not the worst strike-force. Aravidis deserves his shot in the SL with AEK, Chrisantus deserves a full pre-season under his belt before we can judge him and so far so good for him. Djebbour is a worry but who knows how his crazy mind works, maybe he's saving what he's got in the tank for the league games, I will admit his tembelli mind frame worries me but I cant judge until I've seen him play properly.

  12. Asteras have smart owners, with less money, and better teamrosters then PAO and PAOK. Then some green fan with 3 letter name said they shoudnt be allowed to be in the super league because they have no fans haha. BE HONEST AND SAY THEY SURPASSED YOU WITH LESS RESOURCES MAKE THE VAZELAKIA LOOK LIKE IDIOTS.

  13. I think you are making a lot of this.....and being sucked in by the 'ethnic haters'.... the rivalry described between South and Oakleigh...and Green Gully and SGX ...Is no different to the rivalries that exist between clubs around the world...it's how hatred and rivalries began....there is no 'ethnic tensions' or 'politics based on race' in any of these... The Heidelberg slavophone comments are merely an interesting socio historical look at the birth and origins of this club...and as Greeks it's interesting to note how this club began... and by whom and how it changes... it also raises the question (from a purely Greek political/historical) point..not football...how there is an element of slavophone Greeks who can sit comfortably on either side of the skop debate without all the heat... I feel those AL diehards who scream at the thought of an ethnic club being within 100 km of a soccer conversation...have other motives and probably spend a lot of time reading Herald sun and listening to 3AW....

  14. then the guys from the north last season also blame us.... they fail to look at the fact that whilst we are beating Juve, and Athletico .....they are losing to teams in Moldova...eliminated in the cup by Kavala...copping 3 and 4 from Xanthi, PAS, Asteras, Atromitos.....but somehow this is all our fault???

  15. I thought the tactics were correct and the way the first half went proves it to be so,kotsolis was hardly tested ,where as their keeper had to make a couple of saves at full stretch. we looked good in the 1st half. zeka ,lagos and koutroubis did well in midfield protecting the defence and not allowing brugge to get in between the lines. ninis looked like a threat all the time and karelis was causing them headaches with his mobility and speed. but it just went horribly wrong in the 2nd half, and this is where anastasiou is at fault,is luke steele our number 1 .yes or no ? was he fit ? I think he was he just played a friendly a couple of days ago, maybe steele saves that first goal and the third maybe he doesn't,we will never know ,kotsolis had no business playing this game if steele was fit which he was,for me I think steele would save the 1st and 3rd goal. I also thought anastasiou panicked at 2-0 by taking koutroubi off and throwing on petric. again the essien transfer has killed us,so much is won and lost in the first month of the season,we should of been firing on all cylinders ,with our marquee player fit ,playing well in the play offs is to little to late. that money should of been spent on attacking players playmakers or wingers, lack of wingers will come back to bite us the backside in the greek league, when we face 2 defensive lines of 4 siting back and playing not to lose.

  17. Very well said. In the past we were built from the back up. It's the first rule of thumb for europe. Second, your midfield tends to determine the quality of your side and again in the past, we were competitive. Generally the only criticism for previous sides, was the lack of proficiency in front of goal but through perseverance, we would usually get the goal. Whilst this current side is arguably more lethal with berg up front, we lack the more important fundaments to succeed at this level.

  18. When you don't have the financial muscle to compete at a higher level you normally should try to build a team from the defense up and not the other way around. Don't have the defensive base to be focused and solid enough to go to Brugges and get a result. At some point you just knew the team would concede a stupid goal and it did. I think our ownership and coaches underestimated the apparent weaknesses on this team and did not address them correctly. Shame really cause Brugges wasn't anything special. Golden opportunity blown here.

  19. in football 100 percent focus for 90 plus!!...in saying so with out sanchez/essien/steele maybe perhaps it could have had an influence on the result!

  20. 'they' blame Marinakis for EVERYTHING bad thats happening in Greece to them. But then they finally have a fair referee in Europe with a 2-1 advantage, and they get humiliated 3-0. What a joke. what a joke. Please what's the excuse?

  21. The Papagiannopoulos one is strange, considering we have 2 proper experienced central defenders in the squad playing with a 3 man defence. Granted everyone seems to think Tzavellas can play there but so far the evidence seems to indicate he's not cut out for it [that's leaving out the clear off field issues he brings to the table]. If we see more people turning their back on the club ala Rudnev then we could be left short [and even shorter if Costa starts picking up old man injuries]

  22. I wasn't excited about him to start, but what made things worse were the comments referenced earlier about him not wanting to play in Greece. So, essentially, he didn't want to play here...we offered him a lot of money...he tentatively agreed...and then he got cold feet. This does not sound to me like a guy who we should be rebuilding with.

  23. On the all-time list you have a couple of omissions: Kostas Nestoridis and Mimis Papaioannou up front (hands down, no questions asked!).
