Kind hoped for something special after Poyets selections, of which our best players were not picked and he sets up a team like that, that got totally dominated... Mantalos at Left wing, Pavlidis upfront, Rota at RB against this team... a midfield that got obliviated from the word go.. this was terrible, we havent been knocked out of the park like that in some time, yes we had some big misses at the back but come on, a slow team with very few technical players out there vs a Dutch team that was very hungry for the win. Can not ignore guys like Tzolis, Alexandropoulos, Konstantelias, Tsiggaras, Douvikas, Lamprou... come on! Dean97 Posted September 8, 2023 Share Posted September 8, 2023 I haven’t watched the game yet but this is what happens when you don’t pick your most talented and inform players… Relying on Bakasetas Mantalos Kourbelis etc won’t get you anywhere. paokarag4 Posted September 8, 2023 Share Posted September 8, 2023 Very disappointing performance, team was in good form and had just frustrated a more talented French side. But to be blown away like that in the 1st half is really poor. TBF we didn't do much wrong until we conceded the first goal, the Dutch had a clear height advantage and looked threatening every time they had a corner. The way we were torn apart for the 2nd and 3rd goals was simply not good enough for this level. That just about buries any chance of direct qualification we have. The Dutch have a game in hand on us too and own the H2H (we would have to beat them 3-0 in Greece for other tie-breakers to come into calculations) so they are basically 4 points clear of us with the game in hand too. We also have to play France again. We have to win our last 4 to have any hope, and even then it's out of our hands. If the Dutch win 4 of their last 5 they would qualify ahead of us. Disappointing performance the way Poyet set up the team and we were clearly lacking at the back missing Mavropanos & Baldock. Also our midfield was over matched. Losing the match hurts but by 3 nil for head to head tiebreaker and it should have been more if not for Vlachodimos. This all coming off such a positive gutsy performance in France. I hope Poyet gets the selection right especially next month when we travel to Ireland and home to Holland. We’re going to need the Irish to get a result today and we will need to beat Holland.
