  1. When the program was first started, they wanted to produce more technically gifted players. At the same time though, modern tactics and their influence on player development suggests the opposite. I think they have managed to achieve a blend at at the same time keep their hard-nosed, ruthless nature. I think draxler is a very good example. I saw him a while back play at toumba. Immediately it was obvious that no one could keep up with him physically. Above average on the ball but nothing special. Most impressive though was his maturity on the park, great decision making which is something lacking is our guys. I thought to myself, here is a guy that is not only gifted both technically and physically but has had a great understanding of the game. Can't remember if he scored that day, but time and time again he has showed his ruthless nature in front of goal. Offcourse draxler is fortunate to be blessed with desired attributes, but i think that is the point in a sense, that the system filters out the in-cable and works to educate only the gifted individuals. Someone like karelis for instance is a great athlete but would be cut because he lacks football fundamentals. You find that most of our guys are severely lacking in certain areas of their game. If we are serious of implementing such a system and bring in the right people, then theoretically we should produce better players. However as you've mentioned this is very much a pipe dream. The germans are very forward thinking, EPO on the other hand....
  2. Let's not put unrealistic expectations on karelis. The guy is not blessed with a great first touch or dribbling ability. He simply utilizes his pace and upper body strength well and has simultaneously made a living at the expense of slow defenses. His finishing is awkward at best. He is a typical example of the direction the game is heading. Physique over technique. He is not completely useless though because if you use him as a poacher, so as little contact with the ball as possible, he can keep defenders on their toes with his movement. When you stick him on the wing, what do you expect?
  3. I thought the commentator was bang on. Bravo tou, showed balls. Sokratis was talking s%$#!. I like him, but the atmosphere has long been poisoned now and sokratis himself is part of the 'klika'.
  4. Why do you think Santos left when he did? Once he saw that Kara and co. were finished, he knew it was time to call it quits. He took a look at the mykonos generation coming through and ran the opposite direction.
  5. Who to take out and who to sub in? One worse than the other. Worst of all, this lot have imprinted a losing mentality and they are content with that. Going to need someone that can shake things up and alter the mindset because i think that is where we have to start.
  6. France probably got this tony p, fourniour, batum, diaw can all shoot the 3 ball and they have a monster in gobert protecting the paint. Good bench also with De colo, jaitah etc I look forward to seeing schroder in a protagonist role for germany.
  7. In the U17, 19's the competition is easy. Even if they excel at the u21, the jump to the senior squad seems all but impossible. He is blessed with a good first touch and dribbling but decision making is just as important. Berg should be the understudy of every young kid in this country. @4:13 in the video, he has three options and he plays it safe opting to pass to the guy to his far right, allowing the defense to settle. Why not try feed the other two in front? Okay so it's a riskier pass but, if successful he puts them through on goal. It's just little things like that...
  8. Ela re, if the likes of abeid, zeca, karelis, nano, hell even marinakis can find berg, i'm sure paok will work out how to get the ball to him. He has lost a lot of pace but the beauty of berbatov is that he has an excellent first touch and can create for others, just like berg does. Bring me an unlimited supply of these guys, because they age like fine wine. He also a very confident guy and showed he can adapt in a new environment. Only problem is that he will need a month to get the body right.
  9. Greekaus is right, you would think with all that money, they could've brought in a sure thing. What's that Liverpool can't attract big players anymore? Piss poor excuse if you ask me. On the park the guy is still at the helm, despite loss after loss, embarrassing ones as well. They defended and pressed well against arsenal but, were founded out by west ham. They need the most reputable manager they can find, firstly because he won't work with nobodies.
  10. You need both money and most importantly great technical directors. What's the point of having money if you can't realize talent. Asteras and atromitos are examples of great scouts. They do well, with what little they have. It remains to be seen, how good of a side they have. For all the money accumulated, they haven't gone out and bought a sure thing. They have a lot of wingers that are quick and and can create for themselves, but they need one of them to become a scorer. They did well to get rid of jara, but the other scandanavian can't create for himself. Fortounis shouldn't fill anyone with confidence but hope. He may get there but for the time being he is not fit to tie choiri's laces. Bouchalakis is nothing special, hard worker at best. Mantzios was taking them for a ride so....Injuries have killed siovas though. I think we were interested in da costa once. Again another hopeful buy. They said they were going to sign alex.... They need to improve for europe, a lot. For the league, they have great confidence everytime they step out onto the pitch but this comes from winning every year. I liked dosevi, but for one reason or another it didn't work out.
  11. Xanthi and giannena as well, are very well coached. The giannena coach took tudor's shorts. Just because you opt for a 3-5-2 doesn't mean you know how to play it. If you don't know, then i wouldn't touch it. The 3man defense is hard to implement. To beat these sides that aren't going to give you much space, you need a fox in the box. Aek don't have someone of this nature, neither do paok. Well there's klaus, but i think tudor ousted him. Mak is a great player but needs some space to go to work. When a sides sits, i would employ him out wide. When a side plays a high line, he needs to play upfront like we saw against brondby. Everyone blames anastasiou, myself included when he deserves it offcourse but he is adamant on playing two strikers up front and it shows balls. The gavroi are pussies for going with one striker, especially in this league.
  12. Never buy players from liverpool. Where is plessis these days? AKA the next vieira
  13. Ah Tziolara, the scapegoat of scapegoats. I swap lagos for him but hey that's just me.
  14. Guys, there is nothing mind boggling about it. This team lacks quality, simply as that. I put most blame on the midfield. Without great midfielders, you can?t protect your backline, retain the ball and create chances. When you lack quality, you have to compensate by running and running a lot. For one reason or another, this side runs sides off the park most notably in the second half of the season. Now I?m no expert but I reckon you need to be pretty fit to keep up such intensity, so kudos to out fitness trainer. The other thing that is worth bringing up, is that we don?t have that extra European game midweek. Accompanied by a few decent individuals, when you put it all together, we become a handful for the opposition in the second half of the season. The xanthi result is a result that brings you down back to earth.
  15. He is not that bad as you describe him. Decent touch, can dish out a pass and has height which is crucial for those aerial battles. No pace whatsoever though. Paok have a good player in katse, shame his head is in the clouds though.
  16. Not that we are any better, but i feel for paok. Every time the side performs well, accompanied by a good result, they always disappoint the next game. They will pose no threat to oly this season. Aek who i finally got a chance to watch, will pose more of a threat because they are determined, they are a side that runs and runs but their biggest strength is their midfield most notably Simoes and specifically johansson who is set for big things. Being their first season though, they will drop points here and there.
  17. Calm down boy, some serious voodoo was working in their favour today.
  18. Otan ta elega egw......The guy was determined to put the gavro to the sword. Two incorrect offside calls against him, nothing out of the ordinary.
  19. I didn't get to give my predictions for the SL, anyway here they are,
  20. ^Yes but we created many chances and the body language spoke determination.
  21. That they may be but it's too early to make statement like that. So far we have seen them play only friendlies, including that with panionio.
  22. Bayern is a lock, even if guardiola does his best to screw things up. Those hoping arsenal will disappoint, i can assure you they will somewhat but not enough to go out. Wenger always manages to sneak them through. Slow starters they may be, but the are usually one of the best sides in the continent comes april, may. Dinamo will be tough but have the potential to implode. Realistically oly will be looking at finishing third. They may make some noise in the europa but i'll bet against it. In the latter stages you need more quality and marinakis hasn't brought in any big names.
  23. ^^Reminiscent of anastasiou's first season. Run and more run, enthusiasm. It's easy when there is no pressure on the side. Once your expectations change, everything changes. Tougher challenges and if you don't deliver the grinia starts like with pao. This is when tigris needs to dig deep and deliver. The pao board is not capable of this.
