  1. Samsunspor finished 16th out of 18 teams in the Turkish 1. Lig and they got thus relegated. He was released at the end of the season (alongside Sifakis). His performance: 25 games, 2 goals, 2 assists. Very mediocre.
  2. Although Hamburg won in the last round, they were relegated from Bundesliga.
  3. He almost scored in the final versus Atlético Madrid. He was subbed on late for Germain, and in the 80th minute his header struck the post. He should have been introduced much earlier IMO, given that they were down 1-0 after twenty minutes and Mitroglou was the single center forward in the whole SQUAD!
  4. Marinakis sent ALL members of current Oly squad on holiday after a 1-1 draw against Levadiakos: http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11314934/olympiakos-players-fined-and-sent-on-holiday-over-poor-results
  5. In fact we outplayed and outclassed Egypt. There is some hope for the future, lets hope our youngsters like Lykogiannis, Pelkas, Donis will keep developing and eventually will become truly great players like Fyssas, Basinas, Dellas, Karagounis.
  6. The attempts of Tziolis to imitate a deep-lying playmaker and especially to give long balls were laughable though. He is no Pirlo, not even a Katsouranis. That said, his performance was good today (yesterday).
  7. Pelkas, Bakakis, Lykogiannis, Christodoulopoulos and Karelis should get call-ups in the future too. I guess Retsos will be always in the squad if he is available.
  8. Our B side was much better than the A team versus Switzerland. Pelkas, Bakakis, Karelis were really great, Tziolis and the keepers were great too, only the performance of Bakasetas was somewhat poor. A lot of chances and a great goal, lets hope some of the new players will continue to play for the Ethniki.
  9. +1, Kone should have been called up instead of Bakasetas (very average player and no winger) or one of the likes of Koulouris/Kourbelis/Siopis etc. etc.
  10. He scored again on 11 March against Gaziantepspor but eventually they lost the game. See his goal from 1:29: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hp2Df4rtQ7Q Last week his team finished 0-0 against Boluspor. Samaras played again 90 minutes but Sifakis was benched after he had made a mess of two crosses against Gaziantepspor and they conceded two goals.
  11. My God yes. I have quite forgotten it. I saw him during the game on the bench and I kept asking myself "Who is this? I saw him already but I cant remember his name". :)
  12. I think Skibbe has learned the "closed club" idea from Rehhagel (they met earlier I think) and Bakasetas is a member of his group of players who will be always there unless theyre injured. The idea in itself would be good but choosing Bakasetas to be a member of that group is really silly. That guy cannot play regularly for AEK (an average side at international level, or should I say Greek league is average?) even after the injury of Mantalos (they have one CAM less). Of course, such a choice shows his limits.
  13. To be fair, Skibbe is not a hopeless case. Zeca was added to the squad by him. He has wanted to secure the services of Villafanez too (we really need some attacking midfielders beside Fortounis and Pelkas, who seems to be a promising NT player). And I can even understand EPO that they are afraid to hire a new coach who could be easily another Ranieri, Markarian or Tsanas (that is, worse than Skibbe). There are not many coaches right now who know Greek football and are available. Santos, Valverde and Jardim have their jobs now. Only Míchel is available (he was sacked by Malaga in January), could he be the right solution?
  14. Skibbe tries to imitate Rehhagel (closed club policy, essentially defensive tactics), he even seeked his advice but 1) he picks the wrong players again and again, 2) he plays them sometimes in the wrong position (Zeca on the wing, Maniatis as a fullback), 3) he makes stupid changes (yesterday Donis was subbed off, Bakasetas remained on the pitch, Lazaros got only half an hour, Koulouris came in for Mitroglou instead of Karelis etc. etc.). Rehhagel is a famous coach of the last fifty years (alongside the likes of Sacchi, Mourinho, Ferguson, Michels, Carlos Bianchi, Guardiola), Skibbe will be always only a feeble imitation of that legendary trainer. All in all, the performance of the team reflects the personality of the manager as somebody said here after the Croatia game. This is not a group of fighters but a rather dull side that sometimes simply cannot score.
  15. An Ultimatum to the EPO 1. Enough of this. Skibbe must go at once. 2. Some of the current players - Bakasetas, Samaris, Koulouris, Kourbelis, Tziolis, Donis, Vellios, Siopis, Gianniotas - should be banned for a life by EPO. 3. Barkas, Gianniotis, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Tachtsidis, Karelis, Tzavellas should be replaced before Monday by more trustworthy and more promising guys: Chalkias, Konstantopoulos, Siovas, Marinos, Vyntra, Moras, Avraam, Zaradoukas, Patsatzoglou, Fotakis, Pliatsikas, Maniatis, Katidis (his ban should be lifted), Mantzios. 4. Otto Rehhagel must be rehired at once (Santos is not available). The terms of his contract will be drafted by the community of Phantis Forums. 5. Giannis Topalidis and Leonidas Vokolos will be his assistants. 6. Takis Fyssas should return to the position of technical director of the EPO. #feebleattemptatjoking #swag #yolo #stillreelingfromrecentgamesofethniki
  16. We need everybody in this emergency. Tavlaridis, Patsatzoglou and Panagiotis Lagos could also join the squad before Tuesday.
  17. Some necessary changes in the squad before the Egypt game: Goalkeepers: Karnezis (Watford), Konstantopoulos (Middlesbrough), Chalkias (Panachaiki) Defenders: Torosidis (Bologna), Pliatsikas (Platanias), Manolas (Roma), Papastathopoulos (Dortmund), Lykogiannis (Cagliari), Siovas (Leganes), Retsos (Leverkusen), Papadopoulos (Hamburg), Vyntra (Omonia Nicosia), Moras (Larisa), Avraam (Brisbane Roar), Malezas (PAOK) Midfielders: Tachtsidis (Olympiacos), Maniatis (Alanyaspor), Pelkas (PAOK), Petsos (Rapid Wien), Zeca (FC Kobenhavn), Makos (Trikala), Fortounis (Olympiacos), Christodoulopoulos (AEK) Strikers: Mitroglou (Marseille), Karelis (Genk), Gianniotas (Valladolid), Donis (Stuttgart)
  18. Did Koulouris make a single touch? He was incredible.
  19. Another disheartening performance of the Ethniki. Strange call-ups and decisions continue. The pros: Zeca ran like hell, Karnezis made a fine save in the second half, Pelkas tried and shew the adequate spirit in that 17 minutes he got, even Lazaros was an (albeit minor) threat. The cons: Bakasetas was horrible, Kourbelis & Koulouris shouldnt have been called up at all, especially the last one was abysmal, maybe he didnt even touch the ball! Even Sokratis made some faults. Several defenders (Torosidis Manolas Retsos Bakakis) were okay but we couldnt score to save our lives. At least Karelis would have subbed on for Mitroglou. I really think Samaras would be more dangerous even in his present state than some of our "talented" forwards (Koulouris Limnios Bakasetas, well almost everybody except for Mitroglou and Karelis). Yes Santos and Rehhagels team didnt play in a spectacular way but they fought hard, thats why they achieved great results. The Skibbe team plays in a neat way and it shows occasionally some skill but has not too much grit. Perhaps Skibbe should be sacked but I think EPO is too much afraid to do that. Then they should look for a new coach who could be another Ranieri (big name idiot) or Markarian (the old man who looked like a penguin).
  20. Today he was subbed on in the 64th minute and scored his teams second goal, however, his team eventually lost at home to Olympique Lyon (2-3).
  21. Yesterday was the 30th (last) round of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. Here is a short summary of the season of the Greek players playing there: Marinos started as Charleroi lost to Kortrijk (2-0). His team finished third. He missed only one game in the whole year and gave four assists. He should have been called up to the NT considering that he has been in top form in the last 10 months or so. Kitsiou was in the starting XI of Sint-Truiden as they lost at home (0-1), Goutas came off from the bench, Charisis was not even on the bench. Galitsios signed recently for Mouscron. He played four games in the season, they lost all of those games. This time he was on the bench as they lost to Eupen (4-0). His team finished 14th, they just avoided relegation. Kolovos played 12 games for Mechelen (no assists or goals, does anybody remember how he was considered a white hope for the future?). They finished last and got thus relegated. Koutroubis went recently to Standard Liege. He played four games and they didnt lose any of them. Papazoglou played seven games for Kortrijk and didnt score but on six occasions he played five minutes or even less.
  22. Yes he was, and we have a lot of Kolovos now (Limnios, Manthatis, Androutsos and so on).
