  1. Some of the wealthy who support Trump and the GOP think that they can escape the worst of environmental problems, or they are just as idiotic and ignorant as their political base. We have a "so-caled" president who has contempt for science and thinks that global warming is a hoax! Same with the top Repub in the Senate, Inhofe (Oklahoma), says God told him it's a hoax too. His book, "The Greatest Hoax", is almost sold out on Amazon... We collectively get what we deserve I reckon.
  2. That shows you how important the games against the lesser teams are. PAO has a history of dropping too many points to such teams. This title is not won by Oly but lost by the other top 5 teams this year. Strama did not prepare the team well for this season. Wasted so much money too. Anyway, this win is important because of the way it was achieved. Gavroi had no real chance to score; I think they had 1 "on target" (not really though) shot at the 14'. We could draw them in the cup or meet in the final, so our team showed that they can outplay them. Kudos to Ouzounidis too.
  3. We should have scored at least a couple more..... anyway, about 6' left..
  4. Great long shot (free kick) from Eboku, good save to corner by Kapino. Impressive performance so far by PAO. They win most balls and they are the more superior team on the pitch in the first half.
  5. We have tremendous momentum.... Just need to concentrate a little more.. great match so far...
  6. What????????????????????? Klonaridis missed ...can't believe it
  7. Well, on Sunday, 19 March 2017, PAO is hosting Olympiacos. We need the win more than they do. Gavroi aren't going to lose the title, but hopefully they'll lose this game. Not only we need the points more that they do to place in the playoffs, but any game between these two teams is a huge one given the history of the two biggest soccer clubs in Greece. This season is far from being successful for us, but we still have some goals to meet. Gavroi have one of the worst teams in many years, so PAO could win this one if we don't concede a goal early. With our fans there, I think the team will respond. By the way, I'm opposed to moving to OAKA, because that's not a proper soccer home. The pitch is too far away from the fans, whereas Leoforos has that advantage. Some of the better Euro stadia have the fans close to the action on the field.
  8. ^^^ OK, but, above all, don't move out of Leoforos until the new stadium is ready. I doubt this project will boost Syriza's poll numbers, and I don't think they'll last until 2019. I wish the Giannakopoulos family had bought the football club too when they wanted it, but Tzigger refused.
  9. First, do not demolish Leofors before everything is complete. Don't be like AEK. Second, this is a big investment, and I'm afraid it's for public consumption than reality. Why? Because the sport isn't generating big $ in this economically depressed country. The gap between healthy (and bigger) euro teams and the rest (incl. Greek teams) is getting wider. You can see that wealthy people don't want to invest in Greek clubs. Even Marinakis is cutting down a lot. While Greece remains in basket case, I don't see any big project being done. I was young and I got old talking about the new PAO home. Back in the early 2000's (yeah, 15+ years ago!!) we had a long discussion about it here in this forum, and some members were hopeful that the new home would be ready by ..2008 on the club's 100th anniversary! They had plans, drawings, money, and the country was about to host the Olympic Games. .... bulldozers were starting shifting ground in Votaniko! Well, we know how this turned out.... As a side note..... If you had the money, would you invest in this? And, if you lived around Goudi, would you want a football stadium in your neighborhood? (just asking, not trying to be negative, rather be pragmatic)
  10. This is Lazarus trying something new.... (I'm the guy in the middle with the hat, encouraging Laz)
  11. Although not everyone is 100% consistent, I do agree that those who preach that this country was founded (it was not) on Judeo-Christian ethics are hypocrites and morally corrupt, much like their Republican party. This NYT Op-Ed is great. and this: If health care is a privilege and not a right--especially in this affluent country--then we are a morally corrupt society. Human decency and respect for human life requires health care. More Americans dies from the lack of health care (free to access it? b.s.) than they die from invasions, terrorism, or other threats. Yet, Trump and his cronies want to increase the military budget, which is higher than the next 10 countries combined, higher that the whole NATO, etc... It's appalling we make such choices. Damn those emails on her private server, Benghazi, and her foundation.... That was the worse of HRC... How do you like DJT now?
  12. Yeah, the president of the United States picks a fight with dept stores, and entertainers... How did we get this buffoon is beyond me... It's not just an ideological/political disagreement here. We all have different values and priorities, and it's OK to disagree, but this is way beyond that.... It's about a person being unqualified, intemperate, ignorant, and dangerous for the power he holds. Unbelievable.
  13. I sense that Erdogan will become more aggressive if he wins the referendum for expanded presidential powers, and in addition the increasing friction between Europe and Turkey will make him more nationalistic since it's not in the cards Turkey will join the EU any time soon.
  14. Should I ask, what makes a person Greek? Or, Hellene?
  15. Yeah, I think the second penalty was very generous. But, I'm very happy that Barca went through. No matter what they think of this team, it's one of the greatest in the last dozen years. Overturning a 4-0 score in Euro play is definitely something very, very rare. I want to see Barca-Bayern in the final.
  16. Oly has to score in Turkey and that's not impossible. Besiktas isn't such a great team. I think it'll depend on which Oly team shows up since they haven't been in good form lately.
  17. Fascinating. Those who are obsessed with law and order, and who want to round up parents of US citizens because they broke traffic law, aren't probably concerned with the abuse of power and law-breaking by the NSA, CIA, FBI. The same people who were more upset with the revelation of torture not the act of torture.
  18. Congrats. It could have been a totally different game if gavroi had scored from the mistake by Glykos, who passed the ball carelessly early on.
  19. yeah, that's the reason. I edited the title into "music nostalgia" to be more inclusive, but if you want the original I'd be happy to oblige. By the way, Trainspotting was good movie. I like Ewan McGregor.
  20. Another very exciting discovery. Pack your bags for a long trip... https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-telescope-reveals-largest-batch-of-earth-size-habitable-zone-planets-around https://g.co/doodle/ybt9k4
  21. @tantra129 well, sure, Alexander's Macedonians conquered a lot of territory and peoples, so if history of similar conquests is a guide, genes are spread, and mixes. Genghis Khan genes are present in 16 million individuals who have identical y-chromosomes, and some .5% of the world's population. Why is it that we get excited when we hear that other peoples may have Alexander's (or Hellenic) genes? What difference does it make? I'm serious. Are we to believe that somehow a special something in the genes makes people special? Anyway, I wonder what similarities exist among the people of the Balkans, and the general Mediterranean area. I wouldn't be surprised if fighting neighbors share some of the same genes.
  22. ^^^ Hahaha. Then they should be making only left turns then. I guess that's why UPS is always looking for drivers... Too many right turns and they fall out the open doors. Funny thing, in that picture, the truck's door is open!
  23. We agree. No matter what currency they use, if they don't get their own affairs in order, Greece ain't recovering. A sad but accurate description of the state of affairs is the "Super League".... Look how they've "managed" it.... Do you think without any UEFA supervision it would've been better? I mean I don't know, but I seriously doubt it. The sports leagues are run entirely by Greeks, right?
  24. If I don't kill you, I'll put you in a coma for the next 25 years. If the latter, you'll wake up in time to really die, but you'll be happy to see your grand kids having a better future. And, if Greece turns into a Third World country, hey, you can't go any lower, the only way would be up. I hear you, though. I just have a hard time accepting any treatment that can be worse than the disease. I'm rich, I'm really, really rich. Believe me. I can buy my own country, but it'd be too much of a trouble for me. So, instead, I'll pay off Greece's debt. I'll do that after they follow your advice and they leave the EU and drop the Euro, of course. Sooooo, now no debt and no memorandum! YEAH! Life is good!! (maybe too good?) Now, how soon do you think Greece would be in same predicament as now? The cure to Greece's ailments is not go back to the drachma. It had the drachma for about 2 centuries.... (just saying)
