I'm of the philosophy that the best defence is a good offence, but that all depends on the weapons we have, and they are scarce. If we had the courage to press Belgium in order to keep them honest, we would have a chance. Giving a team like Belgium 75% possession hoping that we can hold them off is highly unlikely and we would need much luck (i.e. Belgians to miss sitters, posts, crossbars) in order to get a result. How can we go in resting on that?

I agree, all parking the bus will do is give Belgium half the field to work with and full possession of the ball to set up plays to break down our defense. It's a bad mentality because when you give a team like that possession they will eventually score some goals. You need to field a fast line up with a defense first mentality but are willing to attack as a group and put some pressure on there back end so that they will think twice about pushing everyone forward. If we play scared and just get rid of the ball when we get it then we will get destroyed.

5'9 for a keeper, that may or may not be exxagerated by an inch or two on paper, really hurts his chances of ever gaining the confidence of a bigger club or NT. The fact that he has made it this far in a respectable european league, coming from Greece and garnering the attention of a club like Feyenoord speaks volumes about his ability and tenacity. It would be nice to see him called up as 3rd keeper by Skibbe though. Greece is not very deep with talent at that position.

If we got 11 players who were all significantly better than what we have, sure, I'm all for getting 11 new players, and keep our current best 11 for rotation! But seriously, if Ivic stays, I can see us getting 3 or 4 players. In order of importance :- - another striker who can complement Prijovic. Loan out Koulouris and let Klaus see out his days on the bench. Or keep Koulouris as an understudy. Either way, I don't want both Klaus and Koulouris in the squad. Only one. - another DM to help provide rotation/backup for Canas. Cimirot and Shakhov can do it against weaker teams but not against the stronger teams. Against Schalke we needed to 2 x Canas. Canas, Cimirot, Shakhov are strong players overall but more depth would be even better. I'd trade my left testicle for Natcho to be in the squad. Kace and especially Charisis either need to step up or be replaced, sorry to say. - another winger, but only if he is CLEARLY MUCH better than Campos. Otherwise, don't bother. - a Goalkeeper, but only if he is CLEARLY MUCH better than Glykos. Otherwise, don't bother. I don't see this happening. - a RB as cover for Matos. I'm a bit torn on this one as Kitsiou has played quite well recently. Not sure. The important thing is that our best 11 is actually quite decent. It's the next 11 after them that are not so great.

Vermaelen playing starter and giving in to Mitroglou's scary face ends up with us winning a penalty in 89 minute. Fortounis scores and a lion roar gets heard from whole Greece. We did it boys. we scored. BELGIUM - GREECE FT: 12-1

The "make it, break it" match won't be this one in Belgium, but the one in Bosnia will be to determine if Greece can qualify at least for the playoffs.

no olympiakos struggled to score once at a team playing with 10 for 60 minutes.. instead he conceded two more when he tried to push for the 2nd. the only good player Oly seemed to have on the field was Retsos and Ansarifard who had no service at all but always made good runs. Fortounis excellent too whenever he could, but literally noone gave a f*ck about the wingers. Manthatis can be excused due to inexperience but Elyounoussi despite his goal was of no usage at all. Sadly , you can't win a European match as hard as this one, with 3 players. I am aware it aint you, and Im also aware who it was literally spamming answers like "Turkish league aint nothing better" when given facts about budget/player names/European runs". Apparently our champion getting stomped from theirs gives him experience in upcomming disagreements to not be so ignorant and not making so many useless posts.
