What a stark contest this game was in comparison to the game in Sydney! Was a really good game plan from Greece, pressing the Australian team from the get go! I think this win is a definitely a step in the right direction and hopefully gives the boys some confidence leading into the World Cup Qualifiers later in the year. Not to mention Greece were without 5 starting players. Really proud of the performance!

We are apperantly close in signing keeper Michael Agazzi from Milan. He was on loanbasis at Middlesbrough last season but was on the bench behind Dimitris Konstantopoulos. He will turn 32 next month. Are we really looking for this kind of second class keeper???

The most important this summer is to improve the squad so that we will have a core for the next two or three seasons that we can build on. The goal for the next season should be winning the cup and finishing 2nd. After that, we can strengthen the core with a few top quality individuals and compete for the title.

Would be quite a kick to see us hire an ex-ref as TD and president, and suddenly see the club actually get turned around. Probably helps a lot that he started months ago. Makes me wonder what moves Arnesen would have made had he gotten the time.

Taking a close look at the A-League bloopers is htereason why someone taking a signing at europe gets called up suddently. Thats amateur football at ite finest. I agree PAOKSYD the young guys came in and showed hunger and why they were picked, which is something we haven't been able to say about our players in a long time, so credit to them. Mandalos took the goal well but lets not forget he worked very hard in a position he hasn't played very much (right midfield) so credit to him. Bakasetas did well also but feel as a 10 he should be looking more for the ball or playing off Vellios a lot more as there were times Vellios had it and no one was around him but these are small issues that can easily be fixed. Staf did good at LB also, not fantastic but he gets his job done and I give credit to Holevas, I can be his harshest critic as he left a sour taste in my mouth after Euro 2012 but that left mid role he played he did it well and almost got a goal out of it. So there are some good things to take out from last nights game and surely this can give them belief. Also said it earlier but add Manolas, Fortounis, Karelis and also Mr Mykonos and we can be a threat to many teams.

For me the gains were mandalos and bakasetas. With good seasons at aek and moves abroad both can become aolid players for national team. Stafyllidis needs to put work in and can become a decen tplayer too. Lazaros , tactsidis, papazoglou, giannotas need to worry about making as much money as they can for retirement cause there all notup to it

The Australian commentators were class. 1) the mentioned the individual quality of our players and we need to solve the puzzle. 2) they mentioned that the culture in Greek soccer needs to be fixed because it's not the individual players as they succeed abroad at top clubs. 3) they pronounced the greek names properly (being around tons of Greeks helps) 4) they mentioned how greece should be winning games against Cyprus 9/10 times and Faroe Islands 10/10 times. The english don't bother me much. they have a culture of banter. historically they are pretty much friends. just a peg down france.

I'm glad Skibbe realised we needed to win this game and didn't make 5 subs at half time. Hopefully he starts doing this with all friendlies from now on. We need to start cementing a team not having a Sunday afternoon kick-about!

Mantalos is quality. Just as I said we just need a quality CAM in there like Mantalos, Fortounis, Ninis, Fetfa and we have a chance to beat anyone really. I wish we could've played our best 11ada so we could've smoked them 3-0.

I honestly believe our players backed out a little in the 2nd half fearing injury, vellios wanted to smash one of the Aussie defenders, one of the commentators said at half time that if if was a serious match Australia may have received a few red cards, don't get me wrong we commited lots of fouls as well but they were actually smashing our players. The last 10-15 minutes were a hell of a lot more comfortable then I expected. I'm really glad we won this game because the pedigree of our players is just so much higher then the aussies, we put them in their place, if we just had that one extra creative outlet like fourtounis to pick out the right pass we could have had a huge win.

It's good to get a win against an opponent that never treats friendly matches as a friendly but like Mark Bosnich said, Australia is not at the level of quality teams (yet). He said that Greece isn't a Germany, France, Belgium, England or Brazil, but they are still better than Australia as Australia has only had 1 win against the elite teams and something like 6 losses and 1 draw. That draw was against Germany in Germany. Four days later they then traveled to Yugoslavia to play Monkeydonija and drew 0-0. So that's the reality of the Socceroos. We should be beating this team and this group of players. We need to have our best players fit and organised against Holland and Russia or we will be embarrassed but for team moral and psyche tonight was good.
