There have been a number of great Pontian footballers that have featured in the Ethniki over the years. What would a Pontian side look like today? I'll have a go, feel free to make your own XI, let me know if I've missed someone or correct me if I'm wrong about the origins of any footballers!

Aravidis Athanasiadis

Klonaridis Katidis Tachtsidis Fetfatzidis

Stafylidis Tavlaridis Khacheridi Torosidis

Vellidis

Did some research, some players were way before my time and were selected on reputation and what I've read.

Did he inherit his mother's surname.? Was under the impression that Klonaridis, having the idis suffix would possibily mean his father had Pontic roots.

Some really good names above in the current and all time squads, you don't realise how many Pontians went through the Greek league until you actually sit down and make an 11 like the above.

Makes me very proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for the above well said Pontos couldn't agree with you more!

he may have Pontic roots..

but I just find it amusing that a part Ugandan would be in this XI

So in other words, what you're saying is that you have nothing to add?

I've just discovered former Xanthi and Russian National Team goalkeeper Yury Lodigin's mother has Pontic Greek roots, I'd replace Vellidis with him in my original post. Look's like a very strong side!

Can I assume the Lazaridis in the original post is West Adelaide Hellas' finest Stan Lazaridis?

PS Would Alex Dimitriades from 'the heartbreak kid' fly? Sorry, Australian joke there.

Yeah I did put Stan in the side, he put in some good performances in England for West Ham and Birmingham

The Skops of WA are particularly demented. For example they claim the Tombides family as Monkeydonian while itit's obvious that they are Pontian Greeks. Now if the family is confused that doesn't change this fact.

On the all-time list you have a couple of omissions: Kostas Nestoridis and Mimis Papaioannou up front (hands down, no questions asked!).

Help me here: Is that Thanasis Loukanidis in your defense (a right back if memory serves) or did you move Takis from his natural midfield position?

Which Lazaridis and which Georgiadis are your attacking midfielders? I assume the latter is Giorgos Charalambous (PAO) and the former is Stan who played for West Ham or am I wrong?
