The Olympic Games have ended for Greece with 8 medals. Elina Tzengko finished 9th place at 61.85, just can't get her rhythm going in her final two throws. 64 meters would have gotten her at least silver. A personal best would have been gold since Japan's Haruka Kitaguchi winning throw was 65.80. In Artistic Swimming, both pair Evagelina Plananioti/Sofia Malkogeorgou finished 6th place with 532.3002 total points.

Russian born Dauren Kurugliev won bronze for Greece (8th medal overall) at the wrestling freestyle 86 km. He defeated Myles Nazem Amine of San Marino 5-4. Athanasios Kynigakis finished 10th place in the 10 km open water swimming marathon. Georgios Kougioumtsidis lost to Tajikistan's Viktor Rassdin 8-2.

I think Elina Tzengko has a shot at an Olympic medal. If you watched the men's javelin, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan came out of nowhere and threw a bullet of 92.97 which breaks the Olympic Record. You never know what can happen in these finals. She is not just getting trained by her coach, but also by the president of SEGAS who used to be a javelin thrower herself. She is helping out with her, giving advices that can help her going for an Olympic medal. Let's just hope for the best, she could be peaking at the right time.

Man, Serbia has to be Greece's kryptonite. It is a massive failure! Both the men's basketball team and water polo! Greece has a decent chance to grab at least one more medal before they say Au Revoir to the Paris Olympic Games. Only thing left are, 2 from men's wrestling, one from open water swimming marathon, women's artistic swimming, and Elina Tzengko from women's javelin throw.

History has been made, Miltos Tentoglou joins Carl Lewis as the only athletes in the men's long jump to win back to back Olympic titles. In the morning session, Elina Tzengko automatically qualifies for the finals with an excellent throw on her final attempt at 63.22m. If she could find her 2022 form, she can contest for a medal in her Olympic debut. Sad news here is Ariadni Adamopoulou, who did qualify will be out of action in the women's pole vault final sustaining a bicep injury. 😞 Katerina Stefanidi will be looking to capture a second Olympic medal. She will have to jump at least 4.80 or better to have a chance.

Too bad, she isn't really a great pole vaulter. There are other youngsters who could do better. She will not be missed.

There goes the Olympic basketball season Greece loses to Germany 76-63

I have something to say about Polyniki Emmanouilidou, she is a talented sprinter and I have mad respect for her. She really has to work on finishing the race strong. In future sprints in 100 and 200 meters, she needs to have a set goal of which time she needs to achieve. I don't want to see 23 + seconds or 11.30 + anymore. Time will come for her to get faster and better.

That is what it takes to achieve a medal at the Olympic Games, you have to be virtually perfect on every height you attempt to clear. Karalis was just money and his clearances were pretty clean. He did had a nervous moment where John Obiena was right on his tail and thankfully missed all three attempts at 5.95. Greece now has 6 medals in total and tomorrow we are expecting the first gold medal for Greece from Tentoglou.

Greece playing it's last group play match vs. Italy in the men's water polo, if Greece finish third where they are now, they will get Australia. If Greece finish second, they get Hungary. If Greece finish first, they face Serbia.

Polyniki Emmanouilidou did survive the cut! Finished 6th place overall at the repechage round at 22.99 and later on will take part in the semifinals.

This is crazy! 20 women pole vaulters are going to the finals. That is because only 11 of them (Stefanidi included) went over 4.55, the other 9 finished at 4.40 with the exact scoreline (o o xxx) at the 12th spot. One of them happens to be Adamopoulou, who will join Stefanidi in the finals. What a great debut for the young woman! Polak is not so lucky, finshed at 4.20, she has been very inconsistent this season.

Emmanouela Katzouraki finished 5th place with 23 pts in the women's skeet shooting.
-
Eleftherios Petrounias is now a 3-time Olympic medalist, earning bronze with a score of 15.100, just barely past the Frenchman by .100 points.
-
Stamatia Scarveli did not make the cut, finished 17th place at 69.38m.
-
Polyniki Emmanouilidou finished 4th in the heats at 23.06, she will be racing in the new repechage round which I like this idea. Why didn't they do this in the 100m? World Athletics needs to scrap the preliminary round and allow only 54 sprinters to race instead of bringing in 17 extra "scrubs" into the heats.

Miltiadis Tentoglou easily qualifies to the finals with an impressive leap of 8.32m. Just imagine what he can do in the finals?

Here are the quarterfinals matchup in men's basketball United States - Brazil Germany - Greece Canada - France Serbia - Australia

Serbia 96 South Sudan 85 Final Thank you Serbia for putting Greece into the quarterfinals. : D
-
Serbia 47 South Sudan 44 Halftime

After the Greek water polo team beat USA 13-11, they lost their first match in the group to Croatia 14-13. It was a very scrappy match, lots of red cards.
-
Emmanouil Karalis went perfect in qualification and is rewarded with a trip to the finals at 5.75m. Stefanos Doukos did not successfully defend his Olympic title from Tokyo, finishing 6th place and did not even break the 7 minute barrier.
-
Greece will reach the quarterfinals if Serbia defeats South Sudan to claim the final spot for 3rd place teams.
-
Greece defeats Australia 77-71 Now we will wait and see if Canada can defeat Spain
-
Two more bronze medals added for Greece which brings the total to 4. Both were in men's and women's rowing (lightweight double sculls).
