Of course we’ll take the results. None of us were expecting this, so let us enjoy it Re Gamoto lol.. More importantly, it gives confidence to a young team. Of course the performances still need improvement, and yes, we didn’t face Germany of old and the Netherlands absolute best. But not long ago we were losing to Scotland and struggling to beat teams like Georgia. In my opinion, this is a massive step forward for the national team. Sure, we’re still thin and we don’t have five quality options at every position, but we have a bunch of young, creative players. If the coach plays the right system and selects the right players, they’ve shown they can become a dangerous team. Nobody is saying we’re suddenly one of the best teams in Europe. We just want to get back to tournaments, compete, and show we can hold our own against good teams. These results showed we’re moving in that direction. I didn’t want this coach back either, but since they started with him in the nations league, you can’t possibly get rid of him after these results at the moment.

Just for perspective: The German national football team is worth approximately €1.31 billion, the Netherlands national team is valued at €805 million, and the Greece national team stands at €323.60 million according to Transfermarkt market valuations Keeping the germans off the scorecard 2 games in a row show a huge accomplishment and a vast improvement in defensive play likely due to the younger players maturing and the contribution of the older players. Personally I think a lot of this is also due to the impact Jovanovic has had on the players, nobody wants to come off, they have each others back and everyone wants to contribute....fantastic team mentality which we haven't seen in the last 12 years. Let him continue until he screws up and then they can fire him....but until that happens let him work. For Greece to succeed they have to do so as a team and not as a group of individual talents (regardless of how impressive we may think they are).

Made the mistake of listening to that Hellas Footy podcast and had to turn it off when they decided collectively that we had to play like cowards (and the spastic-chipmunk-sounding-guy trash talking Thessaloniki didn't help, but I guess you can't expect miracles when a bunch of fans of Athens teams get together). Anyway. Bitterly disappointing here. We can hold our own against any f***ing team, which the first 60 or so minutes showed us today. When we revert to scared tactics, we get our assholes torn open. Big frigging shock.

The full 3 points was almost too good to be true. Slightly disappointing of course but we are sitting in a great position by not losing to them. For me this is about securing Pot 1 and raising rank.

Timing matters mate. Arguably on paper, yes some of these transfers appear to be solid. A lot were brought in after we were knocked out of Europe and the team was already in a spiral. Lisci has been pushing sh!t uphill since he arrived. Appointed one day before pre-season, has his best player sold in the middle of European qualifying and then has a bunch of transfers arrive in September (way too late.) I say this as someone who wasn't a fan of his appointment, I thought he was too inexpereinced and was taking over a big club with expectations to win. Something he hadn't had before in his career. That was a byproduct of the club's awful organisation. Another loss against Iraklis and and it may very well become untenable. Regardless he was never really given a shot to succeed by the club and their extremely poor preparation and organisation. BTW Elustundo has been a disaster.

The best thing is we’re guaranteed pot 1 for the Euro qualifiers. We must qualify automatically finishing 1st in qualifying

Yeah, this Germany is much, much weaker than back in the day. It'll take time for them to gel, too. This game showed us just how little depth we have on the wings. Gagatsis needs to go on a complete charm offensive to get Konstantelias back once he's healthy. But even with him, we'd be without competition (or backup) for Karetsas on the right. You all better be hoping your club teams can make their youth take that next leap (I'm looking at you, Chatsidis).

If you told us before the international break that we would be 2-0-2, with Tzolis hurt, we would have taken it.

Last we played Iceland U21 was for the 2023 qualifying for the same tournament : 1-1 away ; 1-0 win at home. Looking at their players and the teams they are on we should have no problem beating them over two legs.

Mythou scored the only goal for the U21 team against Northern Ireland, but it was not enough to see us through to the final stage, as we needed a win with 2 goal margin. Last chance to make it through in a playoff game.

Tomorrow U21 plays the last game in this qualifying stage of the competition. We face Northern Ireland in an away game and we need to win by 2 goal margin to automatically qualify to the finals of U21 EURO 2027. The other way to automatically qualify is to beat Northern Ireland and Germany does not beat Georgia, which is highly unlikely. At a minimum we have secured a playoff spot and have a chance to make the finals through the playoffs, but the easiest way is to win tomorrow by 2 goal margin.

Guys this squad value of Germany consists of Havertz, Tah, shlotterbeck, Musialia, Kimmich and several other players who didn’t play today and have been hurt, Same with the Dutch. In fact if u take starting 11 squad values today our teams are a lot closer than that: my point remains: WE ARE GREATLY IMPROVING AND I AM GENUINELY THRILLED. Good player ratings. Personally I would give Mavropanos a 10 he was just incredible winning every aerial duel and blocking shots. Also I would give Tzimikas a 9 what a string of matches he has put together this international window.

All jokes aside, like I keep saying, I’m very excited that we are beating a weak Germany versus drawing with Kosovo and I am very excited for the future.

Again I 100% agree with you, I’m just worried that in typical Greek fashion EPO will reward him with a longer contract and then we waste this generation. I’m still celebrating and reloading the group table everyday just to see us in the top 2 lol. Of course just qualifying for a major tournament would be a huge change of pace but I think we are capable of so much more. The team showed the grit and the fight of the '04 team today. Very proud of that. Contained the German handily actually. A healthier team and some things we can do better and it's a win today. Great things are happening with this team.

I agree the result is on Jovanovic, the 2nd half we played far too timid and sat far too deep. This team can play football, there is quality there. The 2-3 times we ventured up the pitch in the 2nd half we looked dangerous. With no Tzolis we had no outlet on the counter, no-one pacey breaking into space for us to hit on the break. That doesn't excuse the 2nd half but I guess it offers some explanation. I still have question marks over Jovanovic as plenty do, but if we criticise then we also have to praise him when he gets stuff right. Starting Ioannidis ends up being a master-stroke. He has collected 7 points from a possible 9 against Serbia, Germany and the Netherlands. He made some errors today for sure, tactically the 2nd half was poor. It was not the right move to sub off BOTH Ioannidis and Pavlidis together (I realise fatigue may have been a factor). Another error that he made IMO is leaving Kyziridis out of the matchday squad. When you only have 4 wingers for 2 positions you do not leave one of them out. He would have been invaluable coming off the bench in the 2nd half, his pace on the counter would have at the very least given the other boys an outlet to try hit when we won the ball back. This team is capable, more than capable. Androutsos was another big plus today, very impressive with a dogged display in midfield. It remains to be seen whether Jovanovic has the chops to take this team forward.

4 yrs ago or so we were celebrating beating the likes of Kosovo 3-0 in pot C. Of course I am grateful and exciting, but the dark cloud of terrible coaching is something that worries me. Look at the Portugals and Belgiums of the world. Bad coaching can undermined even the best golden generations. I don’t want guys like Kostoulas to get discouraged

Two completely different teams between the first and second half. This one hurts, especially after having a 2-0 lead. But if anyone had told us before the tournament that after the first round of playing every team once, we’d be sitting in first place in this group by 2 points, every single one of us would have taken it.

I’m glad Pavlidis and Jovanović spoke about having great performances away from home, beating big teams, only to come back to a sold-out stadium in Greece and put in a poor performance. That’s been an issue in the past, so hopefully after two huge wins over Serbia and Germany, they keep the same mentality and intensity tomorrow against the Netherlands. Time to bring that form home.

Unpopular opinion, but this is why it was a good idea for him to be rested in the most recent NL game, which isn't the most important match in the world. He's still very young and you don't want to have his career derailed from so many injuries.
