  1. 2021-2022 European Season Recap The 2021-2022 turned out to be PAOK's most successful European campaign in the teams history. We managed to reach the quarterfinal of a European competition, which equals our accomplishment in the 1973-1974 season (quartefinals of Cup Winners Cup). This time it took us 16 games to do it, while in 1973-1974 we only needed 4 games before we faced AC Milan in the quartefinals. This season in the Europe Conference League we played 16 games starting in the Qualifying Round 3. We won 8 games, tied 3 and lost 5. Our scorers in the competition were: 4 - Zivkovic 2 - Schwab 2 - El Kaddouri 1 - Oliveira, Akpom, Biseswar, Mitrita, Murg, Sidcley, Vieirinha and one own goal PAOK's Overall European Statisctics SEASONS PLAYED: 40 (out of 67) GAMES PLAYED: 216 GAMES WON: 80 GAMES TIED: 60 GAMES LOST: 76 GOALS FOR: 288 GOALS AGAINST: 274 We played in all 7 European competitions . 2. I think the captaincy should go to either Tsimikas, Vlachodimos, Manolas or Fortounis. These guys are our best players. As far as long serving or a real leader, that should go to either Sokratis or Kyriakos Papadopoulos. Both these guys have played a lot for Greece and both have more leadership qualities. That’s if Sokratis plays again and if Papadopoulos stays fit. Also Mavropanos is the most inform out of all our CBs so he has to start.

  3. To make it through at this stage, you either need quality, or some luck. I felt like we had neither. It's a shame, but a great run none the less.

  4. Same here. I also think our guys are good enough, even though nobody else seems to think so haha Regarding midfielders - I think the most important possible signing is a true attacking midfielder to compete with Biseswar. We have way too much trouble breaking through parked buses as it is. Also, Soares is the central midfielder we signed for the #8 position, as far as I have seen.

  5. Trikala - PAOK B 0-6. The hosts could only field 10 players as they have just 12 players on the roster with one injured and one suspended. PAOK B secured another year in SL 2 with this victory. Trikala probably will withdrawl after today.

  6. I agree. And spending solid money on fewer players would be just fine with me. We also usually see a younger player or two coming into their own as well - wonder who that'll be this time. Lyratzis? Someone from the B team?

  7. I don't expect major overhaul of the roster for next season. I think it will be 3 new starters max. The main thing will be to phase out the old guard (Biseswar, Vieirinha, Crespo, Paschalakis, El Kaddouri, etc.) either by not renewing them or make them accept a lesser role on the team.

  8. You mean 2023/2024 Next season (2022-2023) we still only get four European tickets: Champion CL Q2, Cup Winner, N2 & N3 - ECL Q2

  9. When two out of the four teams never even make it to the group stage of a competition, it's difficult. Just shows how disproportionate the contributions (and relative quality) of teams in the league truly is.

  10. Pressure now on PAE to bring in 7 starting 11 players for next season and go that one step further in the confrence league!

  11. Hopefully they can build on this. Most points accumulated since 2001/2 when we had 11.250.

  12. Yes, it was a nice adventure but this is just another example of how scared we are to take the next step. Ajax, Schalke, Krasnodar and now Marseille. In all of these games we had enough chances to be in the driving seat and knock our opponents out. How many games like this do we need to realise that we cannot go into huge European games without a goalscorer?

  13. Nice observations @paokarag4. Overall I'm content with how the two games played out. I really expected Marseille to bash us and was expecting an aggregate loss of 4+ goals. We competed well for 3 out of the 4 halves of the games. Great run overall and hopefully more to come. Great adventures and stories of their trip to France from @Athens4 and @DunfermlineAthleticPAOK. Thanks for the stories guys. Much appreciated. It's a shame we couldn't score early. So many good chances but the boys gave it their all. This is where if we had a better class of striker it could've change the game. Give us a Milik and we'd win this game. I like Akpom, the kid is a work horse but he'll never be prolific. If had a Berg type of striker (when he was at his best) this could've been our game. As posters have noted, Marseille were there for the taking. Lots for the club to think about in the upcoming transfer period. Let's see which contracts get renewed (and piss off posters on this forum ha ha). As always, it'll be difficult to attract good talent to Greece. And lastly, El Khaddouri getting injured in the warm up, ha ha, what can you say.

  14. Unbelievable!!!! Looks like El Kaddouri got injured during warm up. Tsiggaras takes his place.

  15. It is finally time to rid ourselves of the 'Toumpa demons'. Whatever happened with Ajax, Schalke and Krasnodar happened. Tonight we turn over a new leaf. If not for that, then do it at least for revenge for how we were treated last week. ΠΑΜΕ ΠΑΟΚ!

  17. Bradonjic came back from a serious injury and scored twice. However at the end of the last game he got injured again.
