Greek Cup (2025/2026)

Changes being made to the Greek Cup next season. As had been rumoured, EPO has announced a League Phase similar to what we saw in UEFA competitions last season for the first time. Knock-out matches will be one game playoffs and no extra time. If the match ends in a draw it goes straight to penalties. 

Finally, the final will be played before the end of the season on April 25th at OAKA. Which makes sense given the 5th placed/European playoffs rely on a team who has a better European spot winning the Cup.

I'm not sure how I feel about copying that format (league stage). Are we going to end up playing even more games with this setup? I hope not; the season already has us playing too many IMO. I do like the idea of the final taking place much sooner, though.

The link also mentions adding a mandatory Greek player, but why stop at one? Imagine how fun it would be if they mandated six per team. Let's prove our academy is the best.

The first round of games are completed.

The 20 teams that qualified to the League Phase of the Greek Cup and divided into 5 groups as seeded by rankings.
PAOK will be drawn to play 4 other teams (one from each ranked groups). We will play 4 games (2 at home and 2 away) and the points we accumulate will determine our standings in the overall 20-team group. The top 4 teams in the overall standings qualify directly to the quarterfinal stage. Teams finishing in places 5-12 will play a playoff round in order to qualify to the quarterfinal stage.

So EPO is really epic:

The Greens play 16:00 EET

The Reds play 18:00 EET

And we play 20:00 EET so we know what to do to avoid or choose the opponents and path we prefer.

The goal is to win by 4 goals so we can finish 7th and play at home against Kifisia and then face Levadeiakos in a home/away semifinal match up.

If we finish 8th we will play Atromitos at home and then face Olympiakos in the semifinal.
