Varela is awarded a rest. Giannoulis is injured but still no Adrian Nielsen Pereira.

The squad that will travel to Athens:

This is exactly the kind of game that I'd expect Michailidis to get subbed into. My guess is that Garcia will proceed more cautiously with the youth than Ferreira seemed to. If he consistently subs them in like he did vs PSV, I'll be happy.

Funny how some coaches never try the youth, then Ferreira ends up going completely the other way. Michailidis seemed (to me) to get shakier as he went, which implies he may have been in over his head.

A bit strange IMO that Perreira is being left out with the Giannoulis injury. Is he really that bad? He's played once against Volos where yes he wasn't great but there was heavy rotation that game, there were like 5-6 players making their debut. Not exactly ideal conditions for someone playing their match.

Interested to see what we do at left back, whether it's Lyratzis/Rodrigo on their opposite side or potentially one of the CB's getting plugged in there.

I didn't even notice that. You're right. Man, I'd definitely be playing the kid. Lyratzis has limited experience on the left from what I recall.

A thought, though: perhaps he wants to us this to get a sense of Soares on the left, for the next PSV game?

Well, in support of your argument, the fact that Ferreira left him out of the list for the UEFA games implies that he also didn't like what he saw.

In opposition to your argument: your mother was a hamster and your father smells of elderberries.

Uhhh why am I hearing so much chanting in the mao mao stream? I THOUGHT THERE WAS A LOCKDOWN!

Yeah rough.

Half time now - I'd say Lyratzis was quite a bit better on the left than I would have thought.

0:1 halftime

As long as we don't score that 2nd goal we run the risk of a disappointment.
