Hmm, what did you see that you think Pelkas might've done better? I honestly think he did very well, linking up with Matos, Campos and Garry, pretty much any chance we had went through him.

Solid half, I thought Pelkas was great, really looks like he's grown and matured in that role. He's not so careless in possession as he once was and he's been working hard trying to intercept the ball too.

I believe Les Murray titled his article "Armenakas chooses Australia" to mislead and ruffle a few feathers after he and a few Greek Australians exchanged some words on twitter about Armenakas representing the Greek U17's. Panos was not quoted at all in the article, it was written just before Tony Vidmar announced his Australia U17 squad which Panos had apparently commit to representing in an upcoming tournament.

He represented Australia is their last tournament, yes but prior to that he'd only ever played for Greece. I'd say the kid has not yet decided and nor should he, until one of the senior national teams calls him up.

People were optimistic about Pato (never ever happening, it was funny people thought it was possible) but have their doubts we'd even be a chance for a 32 year old Adebayor coming off a poor season from Crystal Palace. Chatzisaias showed good form for us when he was thrown straight into the XI under Tudor, I liked him a lot. Ivic took over and suddenly Malezas' game time was suddenly increased at the expense of Chatzisaias, perhaps Ivic is not a fan. Although I'd like to keep all our centrebacks I can see why we might want to drop a defender, we've suddenly gone from having Tziolis fill in to having... Varela Crespo Tzavellas Malezas Chatzisaias Poungouras If we continued to play a 3-5-2 you could justify keeping them all but Ivic's 4-2-3-1 performed very well in the playoffs and 6 players for 2 spots might be 1 too many, might be tempted to invest the money from wages somewhere else.

I can see what Sheriff is getting at. Arnesen was meant to be a part of a long term plan, the players he signed were at the right age to develop further. We showed intent to build a strong side over the course of 2-3 seasons and hopefully have that side peaks and challenges a couple years from now, but we bailed on it and were thrown back to square one without even having finished the season. I'm not quite sure where the team stands right now with what Michel's brought in, we'll have to wait for season to begin. The good news is we have some very talented pieces at a great age to work with (Charisis, Cimirot, Pelkas etc).

If Varela is signed I'm pleased with the progress we made in strengthening the overall squad, however I'm a little disappointed we haven't signed a player with that game winning ability.
