he started as a left midfielder at paok, and has played lots of game for Augsburg in that position. His offensive attributes are quite good. barely makes any shocking mistakes and sellouts. The reason probably is that Skibbe realises that with players like Mantalos on the Right wing, he needs someone more suited for the flanks. Players like Mpakasetas/Karelis even Mantalos, are not exactly good in the wings. I don't kno the coach thinking about that however. I mean look at Mandzukic playing Left Midfielder and proving everyone wrong. Who the hell sgonna judge Skibbe for putting anyone on the flanks after that.

Its just sad. Im in international forums and this type of players "pacey guy who can dribble but do nothing more useful". Just look at all those Premier League flops like Memphis Depay. There are like 1000s of players like this. There is probably a reason why Mantalos is preffered in the RW position over a pure winger like Gianniotas. Maybe he is not ready yet? Maybe he is not enough? Who knows.

Maybe the fact that Siopis will be playing competitive until the end of May, while Maniatis has already left Atromitos waiting the next transfer window to continue his career elsewhere, and is teamless right now. When it comes to the rest of the team. There are some locks that I believe won't change. Karnezis Torosidis-Sokratis-Manolas Fortounis-Mitroglou-Mantalos-Stafylidis 8 out of the 11 are locks. What s left to be seen is a) If Stafylidis will move to LB and someone else goes forward, talking about Lykogiannis taking the LB position or Gianniotas taking the left/right midfielder role. b) who the midfielders will be. Currently I think we re left with Options Tziolis, Zeca, Siopis, Maniatis Retsos, Kourbelis I am not aware if Retsos will even be selected, so theres literally 0% chance he actually starts. Siopis and Maniatis have exatrly the same role and exactly the same attributes in the midfield. Maniatis is also short so I dont understand all the fuss about "Siopis is short." Siopis is in full form playing whole year with a low budget team and this should actually mean something. He was a beast in the midfield for 2 (yeah unlike some ppl here I was also following GSL last season, and there were calls for Siopis being very decent for the Greek Level last year as well). But this is Greece, and noone gives a damn for you unless a big team is interested as well.Zeca also has the same attributes with both of these mentioned although taller, but in comparisson loses in passing and maybe ball control. I would put the preference order in this way Siopis>Zeca>Maniatis. Biggest possibility is 2 of the 3 players mentioned above both make it to start. Kourbelis, as with Retsos, small chance to be selected (although with so many missing players who else is to be looked at and called. In a sceneraio of a 5-3-2 to keep the draw , or even 4-4-2, maybe one of the youths can be selected. Tziolis no comment. Phil has probably met him.

-------------------Karnezis---------------------- Torosidis-Manolas-Sokratis-Lykogiannis ----------Siopis/Kourbelis------Zeca----------------- Mantalos------Fortounis----------Stafylidis ------------------Mitroglou---------------------- I don;t like your starters at all. Maniatis and Zeca both do the same thing and they are unable to do crucial passes that will help offensively. Having them both in the same team is a no-go for me. I would like to start Siopis because this lad got what it takes to win a midfield. We lost the midfield last match vs Bosnia so we need to change it. I believe Skibbe has to end up with which midfielders to use in training. I really hope Tziolis is not one of them, and I really hope Maniatis is not one of them either, as he didnt exactly prove his career worth in Atromitos. Siopis seemed a lot more dominant while they both played for small budget teams. Kourbelis also a hard worker. Another possible add is Retsos but I think he is mostly suited for the CB role as his passing has nothing spectacular to it. Both Kourbe and Siopis are considered able to share the ball and also keep it with them. I believe Stafylidis as Left Midfielder/Winger is a no-go as well. Mantalos seems low on both wings. Fortounis as well. So why waste both of our wings. Give Lykogiannis a chance on the back. Besides all of the Bosnian wingers/flankers are nothing much talented. I believe Lykogiannis can handle it. Stafylidis is not much of a talent defensively either.

who the fck is phil the meme guy who has met everyone.

You are actually comparing a Holding/Defensive midfielder who barely goes up front to help score a goal in Siopis and Kourbelis, with an Attacking Midfielder and a Striker in Fortounis and Mitroglou? Bro. Many teams found it hard to break Panionios midfield domination. That's why they reached the playoffs.

I just feel that most players of these age are preferred to play for the U-21,U-23 teams instead of the men's one. I am not aware if there is any restriction to putting players in both levels (Men's and Youth's team). With current things however our NT seems to have some future players. Siopis,Kourbelis,Retsos have became dominant players in the league and key stars of their teams. ,Manthatis,Androutsos managed to steal some starting spots from transfers that cost millions to Olympiakos Gianniotas,Donis,Lazaros Lambrou could also develop to be upgrades from the current National Team. Only time will show . Hopefully noone from Greece takes interest in these players. Coz every GreekSuperLeague youngster ends up being "THE NEW MESSI" before he gets lost in some LEVADIAKOS level team.

We lost our proved-to-be key playerMilivojevic and we re still crying. They lost their top player Gary Rodriguez who was carrying the team literally at least 1,5 season, and the team didn't prove to be so devastated as Olympiakos would be if Fortounis/Seba left. Im talking about current period. Oly obviously made a Κοιλιά since he won the championship but Paok on the other side is flying. I honestly believe Paok could kick Besiktas out of Europa League If Paok keeps the same squad with a few decent additions(new left winger while putting Pelkas on the Right, a new centerback and a decent b-choice left back) I honestly belive they are gonna run for the league next season. Goalkeeper is also an issue for paok.
-
Paok is currently a much better team than us. Considering they were on -3. They finished just 3 points behind us. All they were missing at the first half of the season was a decent striker like Prijovic. Most possible outcome is that Paok could actually win the league if they had Prijovic from the beginning. Of course chances are also that Oly would tryhard more at GSL but we honestly don't know that. I don't understand posters saying we re still above. It seems to me this seasons Oly was bad from the beginning. Team was a huge step down and Paok definately had a chacne, Pao as well if Ouzounidis was called from the beginning. Aek seem more lost than any team. Paok has an easy match at the Cup final. Paok is the most in-form team right now. I expect them to stomp everyone in the Play offs. Aek on the other hand, it's clearly a miracle how they got in the PlayOffs.

last year he was. sadly currently he is not playing really well. It seems to me that Fortounis seems let down from the team management and hte players they bring. He is very smart and skilled for the Greek Super League so I guess he is interested in a team that eyes on a decent (if not good) European run. I honestly don't mind that. I think it's time we let him go.

Kostas Mitroglou ‒ (now playing for Aris)
Rockafeller Skank replied to js1000's topic in Greek Players Abroad
he wouldnt get benched in any club that plays with a big-&-not-so-pacey forward like Arsenal or Inter. United is full of youth so I agree -
Augsburg actually lost many players in the past 2 years. 2 years ago they finished fourth and got a spot in Europa League, managing to reach the R16 if im not wrong, only to lsoe to finalists Liverpool 1-0 aggregate. Their whole midfield is completely different from 2 years ago and a big loss was the one of Ragnar Klavan, going to liverpool.

Road To Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup

Lets not look far enough as we might get disappointed. Even after the Bosnia match I don't think we ll have a clear appearance of the Group. Cyprus is the fear of Bosnians when it comes to National Team Football. Estonia seems to have a momentum and , like Cyprus, having nothing to lose might make them harder to beat. Belgium is also questionable as weather they can stomp Bosnia to help us or evne if Bosnia manages a draw that might send us to 1st spot. Literally nothing has come to a conclusion. The only thing this "1st round" (since every team now payed with each other) brought up is the expected result of which 3 teams will be fighting for the top 2 spots, and which teams will be uninterested. Something I would like to mention is the result against Gibraltar. Everyone bashed our NT for only scoring 4 past them but Bosnia only scored 5 and in the middle of campaign while it was our first official match under a new coach in the beginning of a new era. I will remain with my initial belief. No matter if we qualify or not, Sokratis even said it himself. This team has shown huge improvement and progress from the 16 qual campaign and this should be considered frankly enough. It seems that it's the players' will right now that's pushing them more to try and persuade the qualification, which makes it even more enjoyable to watch and can easily be understood from their coexistence in the field. Target for me is not qualifying, but ending 2nd spot and not going in the play offs with the hands down. Some serious ranking boost will come with this aim as well. -
I believe Winning the next match vs Bosnia gives us high hopes of claiming 1st spot as well as climbing further more. One thing we can wish for is to at least climb in the rankings so that next Euro Qualification campaign is easy.

Suggested Call Ups, Starting 11
Rockafeller Skank replied to Original 21's topic in Greek National Teams
Sadly the differences in the set up will be far less than u guys hope/think. Stafylidis will be moved to Tzavellas position since the latter is inelidgible. Most of you forgetting Babe Karelis comming back fron an injury and he ll have his out of form self ready to look useless for one more game. As for Tachtsidis inelidgibility we all fear Tziolis but I believe it's just gonna be Zeca starting instead. Karnezis Toro-Sokr-Manolas-Stafy Zeca - Samaris Mantalos-Fortounis-Karelis Mitroglou -
Dude our epo played a friendly before the Bosnia match. Their's didnt. Now Bosnia playing one, ours didn't. I am not sure it's easy to find opponents but considering we re one of the best park the bus nations we should be pretty perizititoi from big teams who wanna find ways to break solid defences.

Why exactly did we not look equal to belgium? They had 1 chance out of luck (ball reflecting to 3-4 players before it gets on Dries Mertens) which Kapino cleared. They had another chance from Lukaku and Kapino again. Third serious chance they created was the Goal which I couldn't expect Sokratis falling for that. It seemed obvious that Lukaku is gonna turn and shoot, but maybe it was just the difference in angles (he was behind him). 3 good chances for them 2 for us. Their subs are good but seem clueless. Useless possession is this match's discription
