we were quite poor across the back..... have been all season...a better more polished team would have torn us apart... I am sorry, I think this year we have a very limited team.....obvious weaknesses are CD and up front (including wide potions)

Nikos Karelis ‒ (now playing for Panaitolikos)
RED SHERIFF replied to plato-ny's topic in Greek Players Abroad
its 10 points not 10,000.... in greek a comma is used instead of decimal point..... -
i just cant see how mitro and vellios can play in the same 11
-
for me Fortounis is the only certainty.... the issue are then : 1) how many of Taxi/Samaris/Petsos/Mandalos fit into our best 11? and who in that combo best compliment each other....it seems Taxi - Samaris are not the best combo... 2) who plays wide? 3) where can we best utilise Kone? Maniatis at 30 can no longer be considered ahead of Taxi, Samaris and now Petsos (Werder next season) who are all younger , better footballers and play at higher level each week.... Maniatis would not get a game ahead of Cambiasso, Kasami, Milivojevic....and Bouchalakis (if fit)...
-
does he even play??
-
the problem is still how do we get a functional midfield to work properly and provide opportunities to Mitro etc...as well as keeping it tight at the back... we don't really have any real 'wingers' ...Karelis. Pelkas,Kone are not proper wingers....
-
the greeks well and truly knew all about it.... there were no excuses in regards to greeks.....and this is what we are talking about in the context of interest within the diaspora... how much were the tickets?? for the Oly game tickets were pricey..I paid $90 which in the mind of greeks is excessive... even though for similar games they are more expensive and in the non greek minds it is deemed to be reasonable..

yes....you risk becoming a fully semi pro league that looks at simply exporting players... OLY/PAO/AEK/PAOK.......see themselves as different to this...as do Gala/Fener/Besiktas/Anderlecht/Celtic/Rangers....etc... our 'big 4' have always seen themselves as bigger clubs that want to make big signings and take on the best on those special European Wednesday nights... having said that...junior development and play path way programs need to be properly implemented..... we can have both..... all I am saying is if we were Croatia/Serbia/Poland/Sweden/Denmark we probably would not be discussing Oly's prospects in europe....with any serious undertone...
-
depends what you consider 'fair few' subscribers.... the aussie diaspora has assimilated.....they don;t even know in reality the problems with GSL...as we know them....it is only a few us war horses that care...you speak to the average George or Nick in Sydney or Melbourne....they may give you vague scant dialogue...but not much probing needs to be done to see they have no real clue...then turn the topic of conversation to BBL, NRL,AFL...etc....and see the level of passion in the conversation.... sure if you hang around kafeneia or soccer clubs you may get the impression there is greater interest...but the 'concentration' of raw numbers in these settings gives you a false reading to the interest in the general community... remember the pitiful attendance AEK got when they visited here a few years ago??? OLY scraped 17k....v MVFC,,, Enough said...
-
be careful what you wish for..... on the one hand we can look at and admire the Croat player development model and try and learn from it......however on the other hand.....and in the context of domestic league quality....and being competitive in European competition...the Croat and ex Yugo leagues are very very poor.. no Croatian team has played in European comps past December.....the last they did was as part of Yugoslavia in the late 1960s.. so in the context of this thread /debate...we don't want to be Croatia or Serbia or Sweden or Denmark...etc

he will be 36-37 next year...not sure what he can offer to AEL at that age...

Ioannis Fetfatzidis ‒ (Now Playing for Aris)

is he injured?? -
1) the proposal 2 years ago for a 11 team league was more likely a 'breakaway' Alafouzos....anti osfp league.. there was no proposal for a proper revamp..... 2) they do show GSL games in Balkans and Eastern Europe....hence why you see many matches the score written on screen in english/roman letters. 3) adding Cypriot clubs...max 2-3 would be an issue for CFA...UEFA/FIFA....No value add to the game in general..only minor gain for GSL.... 4) @PAOK SWEDEN.....I don't live in Europe so I can't speak for the Greek Diaspora there...however in Australia there is poor interest in greek football....so a TV rights deal for diaspora would not get meaningful numbers subscribing...... WE ARE WAY OFF TOPIC HERE..... I will just say to rockefeller, its interestoing you down play oly getting 9 points in CL....Yet the current EPL leaders got 9 points in the same group....and last year Juve got 10 (1 more than us)...... that indicates how difficult it can be to get 7,8,9,10 points in CL.... Remember we once got 10 points and missed out..in a group with French,Spanish English opposition.....not exactly playing against APOEL, BATE, Ludgorets....etc...
-
something like that...but it always seems to blow out to 20 mil + with crowd revenue wins/points etc,,,,market pool dividend... I think we are guaranteed around 15-18mil no matter what..
-
Demi got buried by his own......which makes it even more interesting... I asked in another thread...had Demi got the 50k stadium built at ODDY 10 years ago would AEK be better or worse off today? the resistance he met on this issue...is the reason why AEK/PAOK and Greek football in general is not progressing....these issues would not hinder progress in other football markets..
-
we make between 22-29 mil from UCL...
-
maybe you are too young to remember ....but AEK were in deep financial crisis back in 1998..remember ENIC NEDMED.....They were bad times for AEK.... Well you can blame the Pontians for 2008.....

The gesture was in Marinakis first few months of being in charge...so perhaps we/you need to take it on face value... at the time I recall he said he was doing it for the 'good of greek football'. I have always maintained that if Marinakis is guilty of the allegations then let justice take it's course...I have no issues with that... By describing Meli and Savvidis as 'greek hardcore nuts' I mean I do not see anything different in them than 'traditional greek arrogant businessmen of last century'...just ;like Kokkalis etc.... unlike the Iraklis owner, who appears as he comes from a different place.... The Lamia owner is small fry....nothingness in charge of a nothing club......but I doubt he is in Kouyias category....no one is... We need to remember that our domination has been facilitated because essentially AEK/PAOK were broke and on life support from 1998 until very recently....and once Tzigger pulled out PAO were in financial free fall... it was no coincidence that the last time PAO spent big they won the double....and in the same year Kokkalis dropped the ball and we finished 5th (after play offs)

the Karaiskaki offer was a good offer and a good gesture.... Marinakis cares more than alafouzos......Savvidis and Meli are in the same boat as Kokkalis..old school greek hard core hard nuts.. Lamia owner??? seriously?? who is he?? he runs kalloni in drag!! I like the Iraklis owner...he is a refreshing change for Greece..
-
they win we dont..
-
well thats the way they seemed to approach the matches....their body language and focus looked very poor..
-
who are these clubs and owners that want to improve the league??? don't blame osfp..... remember Marinakis in his first few months in charge offered AEK the use of Karaiskaki for their uefa cup game v Dundee after Panionios fans vandalised Nea Smyrni so AEK wont play there... then only Scottish fans were allowed to attend, because there were genuine fears that AEK fans would trash Karaiskaki... A good gesture by Marinakis could have lead to bigger and better things....for cooperation between clubs... for starters AEK could/should have sold out Karaiskaki for that game pocketing $1 million.......but instead there were only 2000 red heads with freckles in the stands....
-
I don't believe ANY Greek club management of ANY greek club has ever set a goal for upgrading Greek football...Unfair to single out Marinakis here,if anything he at least talks about how others need to improve..
