Dec 9 draw

No news that I have found about how the groups will be drawn - or which are the seeded team

They are yet announce how teams wiil be ranked or how pots will be formed

based on 2002 rules here are the seeds (as of last month) - defending champions and hosts are seeded automatically- the rest based on last three mundial results with more weight on more cuurent cups

1. Brazil - 63.67 (0.00) (qualified)

2. Spain - 48.83 (0.00)

3. Mexico - 47.33 (-0.34) (qualified)

4. Germany - 46.83 (+0.33) (qualified)

5. Argentina - 46.33 (-0.34) (qualified)

6. England - 45.83 (+0.50) (qualified)

6. Italy - 45.83 (+0.33) (qualified)

8. France - 44.67 (+0.34) (qualified)

9. Netherlands - 43.00 (0.00) (qualified)

10. United States - 41.67 (0.00) (qualified)

I am assuming pots will be split geographically as per usual -

Probably pretty good seed if you ask me you wil never get a perfect system

Look how close the US is to being a 1 seed they have done remarkably well

As regards allocation to the different pots, there will be eight seeded teams, among them Germany, who have already been assigned to Group A. The seven other seeds will be determined on 6 December by the Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup, on the basis of various criteria such as the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. The eight chosen seeds will be placed in Pot 1, and drawn as the first teams in Groups A to H, from left to right. As mentioned above, it has already been decided that Germany will play in Group A.

The 24 remaining teams will then be assigned to Pots 2, 3 and 4 in such a way as to achieve the best possible geographical distribution between the groups. As soon as a team is drawn, another draw will be made to allocate this team its place in a group. Finally, so as to maintain the suspense to the end and most importantly, protect the integrity of the draw process, the order in which the pots will be drawn may be varied.

Still - is that right?

Why not just draw from all 9 teams - place 8 of them and then the left over team goes to the next pot - I think this is a better method

after all even thought they are a lower ranked team they are group winners - they beat spain but are essentially 2 groups lower - not right in my mind

Let's imagine that we use this method and we end with one group looking like this:

England

Germany

Netherlands

USA

and another one looking like this:

South Korea

Angola

Trinidad&Tobago

Ecuador

That would be a bit upsetting don't you think?
