Athina Papagianni (FS Asteras Preveza) broke the Greek record in the 20,000 meter Walk race during the Balkan Championships, which took place in Resita, Slovenia. Her time was 1:28:58.0. Papagianni won the race and became the Balkan champion in the event.

With this time, Papagianni also achieved the qualifying standard (1:33:30.0), which guarantees her a place in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

Argyrto Startaki, the PAOK Thessaloniki heptathlete broke her own Greek Heptathlon record during a meeting in Gotzis, Austria. Her final score was 6,157 points, beeting her old record from last year, which was 6,116 points.

Gogo Tsiliggiri (Panellinios) broke her own pole vault record with a jump of 4.41 meters, breaking her previous mark by one centimeter.

Katerina Voggoli of Olympiakos set a new Greek Discus Throw record for women during the first day of the Greek track & field championships. She threw the discus 67.72 meters, beating the old record by Kelesidou. Voggoli's throw is the best for women's discus throw in the world so far this year, followed by Kelesidou's throw of 67.02 meters set last week in Edessa.

marios Evaggelou (Panathinaikos AO) set a new greek record in men's pole vault with a mark of 5.62 meters, breaking the 4 year old record of 5.61 meters set by Tsitouras.

It was Summer, in Argolis, when I read that Roubanis' record of 4.50m was broken by 10cm by an athlete named Christos Papanikolaou...

Hard to believe that was almost 40 years ago! :blink:

The great Christos Papanikolaou, the first pole vaulter to break the 18 feet 5.49 meters) barrier. Not that Roubanis was not great, as his bronze medal at the Melbourne Olympics proves it.

Periklis Iakovakis broke his own Greek record in the 400 meter hurdles in an international meeting in osaka, Japan. His time was 47.82 seconds. The old record was 48.12 from 2003.

Strataki broke her own record in Heptathlon. Her new record is 6,235 pints.

Here are the results in each discipline:

100 M HURDLES: 13.93 Seconds

HIGH JUMP: 1.76 Meters

SHOT PUT: 13.81 Meters

200 M: 24.60 Seconds

LONG JUMP: 6.34 Meters

JAVELIN THROW: 45.16 Meters

Eirini Kokkinarou (Panathinaikos) set a new Greek record in the 3,000 M Steeple during an international meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The new record is 9:55.82 minutes. The old record was held by Kokkinarou which was set in april 2006.

Dimitris Tsiamis (Olympiakos) has set a new Greek record in the Triple Jump with a jump of 17.55 meter during the European team competition in Thessaloniki.

This jump is currently the 3rd best triple jump mark in the World this year.

Louis Tsatoumas broke the 13 year old Greek record in the long jump, by jumping 8.66 meters in a meet in Kalamata. This is the 8th longest jump of all time in the World and 2nd longst jump in Europe of all time.

The previous Greek record of 8.36 m was held by Koukodimos since 1994.

I just checked the list of all-time leaps and you now see this young Greek with Powell and Lewis and Beamon

Amazing

Its the longest jump in a dozen years!
