Dutch Eagle Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 Sakkari will be playing today in the final of the 47th Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose. Her opponent is Mihaela Buzarnescu from Romania.
Dutch Eagle Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Buzarnescu was way too tough for Sakkari: 1-6, 0-6.
Antaeus7 Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Sakkari won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 over Asia Muhammad of the USA
Antaeus7 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 She won the first three rounds in the Volvo Car Open, she will face Caroline Wozniacki in the quarterfinals.
Antaeus7 Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 She won her very first WTA title in Rabat, Morocco in the Morocco Open. She beat Johanna Konta of Great Britain to claim the title. 1
Antaeus7 Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 She will face Pilskova in the semifinals of the Italian Open
Antaeus7 Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 She is in the semifinals of the J & T Banka Ostrava Open in Ostrava, Czech Republic in pursuit of her second WTA title.
Blackhawk Posted October 24, 2020 Author Posted October 24, 2020 Easily lost in the semis in the tourney played in the city I grew up at. 1
Antaeus7 Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Maria Sakkari will face Naomi Osaka in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open. If she pulls off the upset, she might have a good shot at winning her 2nd WTA title.
Dutch Eagle Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 She is now on a record #6 on the WTA-list!
Dutch Eagle Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 #3 on the WTA-ranking at this moment and probably soon at #2 as number 1 Ashleigh Barty retired and asked to be removed immediately from the ranking.
Blackhawk Posted March 28, 2022 Author Posted March 28, 2022 After losing in the first round of the Miami this weekend she will likely drop in the rankings.
paokarag4 Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 (edited) The previous week she made the final at the Masters at Indian Wells. Slip ups happen and is somewhat understandable especially after her great run the previous week. So not all doom and gloom. Maria has had a great couple of years, going deep into Grand Slams. The next challenge for her is to take that next step and really compete with the top 3-4 players and win those semi finals and become a finalist and a potential slam winner. I am not sure her game is quite at the level of those very top players but she is a fighter and very tenacious. Hopefully that can help her get over the line in those semis and finals. Blackhawk Posted March 29, 2022 Author Posted March 29, 2022 It's all psychological. I think Sakkari and Tsitsipas need to develop the killer instinct. In many instances they start a match great winning the first set, but then go downhill in the next set. It is then harder to pick things up and win the third and deciding sets. They need to start taking their games to the next level and finishing the matches. Having said that I think Sakkari has greatly improved in the last 2 years. On the other hand Tsitsipas has not made that much progress.
Antaeus7 Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Sakkari seems to play so well at the Indian Wells Masters She is in the semifinals after a nice comeback win against Kvitova. She wants to return to the finals like last year, but first she has to get by Sabalenka (who is red hot during the 2023 season).
Antaeus7 Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 Sakkari won her second WTA title in 4 years at Guadalajara, Mexico. It's her first MASTERS 1000 title. Granted she didn't play many top players to achieve this title. Her next stop is Tokyo for the Japan Open. 1
