Dutch Eagle Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 The draw of the US Open was made and Maria Sakkari, #94 on the world ranking, will face Kiki Bertens of The Netherlands (seeded 24th and #25 on the world ranking) in the first round. The US Open starts this Monday.
Dutch Eagle Posted August 28, 2017 Author Posted August 28, 2017 Sakkari won her first game with 6-3 6-4. Next opponent in round 2: Arina Rodionova from Australia.
Antaeus7 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 She beat Rodionova 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the third round.
Dutch Eagle Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 Tough opponent there: Venus Williams!
Antaeus7 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 It's OK, she needs experience against top opponents. Reaching the third round in the U.S. Open is a major achievement for her. Maybe she could upset like some other players under 21 years of age.
Blackhawk Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Lost 6:3, 6:4 to Venus. Stil respectable showing.
Dutch Eagle Posted August 25, 2018 Author Posted August 25, 2018 (edited) Tsitsipas is seeded #15 and will face Tommy Robredo from Spain in the first round. Robredo is a qualifier who is currently #208 on the ranking but is a former top-5 ranked player. Sakkari is seeded #32 and will face Asia Muhammad of the US. Muhammad is the current #248 of the world and is playing thanks to a wildcard. Muhammad by the way is the older sister of Shabazz, who plays for the Bucks (and thus a collegue of Antetekounmpo). Antaeus7 Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Guess who Tsitsipas is facing in round two? Daniil Medvedev! LOL! Last time they faced off, it was in the Miami Open where Tsitsipas called him a "Russian bast**d" after he lost to him. 1
Antaeus7 Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Actually, Tsitsipas called him "Bull***t Russian". It's funny because he has Russian blood from his mother.
Dutch Eagle Posted August 28, 2018 Author Posted August 28, 2018 Sakkari will face Kenin in round 2. Hopefully payback-time as Kenin eliminated Sakkari a few weeks ago at Wimbledon.
Dutch Eagle Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 Exit for both Greek participants: Tsitsipas - Medvedev 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 Sakkari - Kenin 6-4, 1-6, 4-6.
Antaeus7 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Both players who lose to them have owned them before
Dutch Eagle Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 Next opponent Peng Shuai from China. Tsitsipas plays against Andrei Rublev in R1.
Antaeus7 Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 A first round exit for Stefanos Tsitsipas, defeated by Russian Andrey Rublev 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (7-9), 5-7. 1
Dutch Eagle Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 Looks like the magic is gone for this moment. Head up, Stefane!
paokarag4 Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Yep he's been struggling since Wimbledon. Rublev is no slouch and was considered one of the up and coming starts a few years back, not sure if injuries have gotten him or what but he has dropped over the last year or 2. Regardless it was a close match
paokarag4 Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Nadal, Federer and a few other players choosing not to play due to COVID. Stefano has a really good draw and there's no reason he shouldn't reach the quarter finals at least. Anyway one game at a time, up next is Cressy.
Antaeus7 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 The 3rd round will be tough, both Greek players can advance into the round of 16 if they get off to a strong start.
