  1. You may or may not have heard of the Alt-Right whose messages and people have been promoted by the media outlet Breitbart whose former CEO ran Trump's campaign and will be his White House Chief of Staff. Some of our members here are lovers of all that collection of deplorables.... When you espouse and support such people and messages, you are also responsible. Showing up at a KKK rally claiming you're there for the smores ain't a good excuse. So, let's be clear who those people are, both in the video and those who post here supporting such garbage. No name calling and verbal attacks against the messenger (like the Atlantic or myself or them libruls) can wash away the stench of the people the new US president empowered and is promoting. The message is clear.... We can't normalize this evil; it goes way beyond the ideological and policy differences between the Democrats and Republicans.
  2. Benny Hill for light, situational humor, and Mr. Bean for weirdness.
  3. ^^ First, you should capitalize properly. Voting for a republican isn't the same as Republican. Likewise, I may be a democrat but not a Democrat. As to your "ILLEGAL" scream, most Americans, by big majority, want legalization of undocumented immigrants with a path to citizenship. Perhaps, the majority of Republicans think this is a huge issue. I don't know where you get your information, but this is an issue blown out of proportion to energize people like you. The same people who are concerned more about ISIS/ISIL (and its founder, B. Housein O.) than the lack of health care.
  4. So, what you're saying is that both Greeks and Turks are malakes, just the Turks are a lot more. OK. I got it. By the way, if Erdogan goes to burn in hell, and even if Turkey disappears, Greeks are still going to be malakes according to this logic. Good.
  5. What happened to "lock her up"? Maybe he'll be busy draining that cesspool he talked about... First the Repubs will repeal Obamacare. Right? Then Trump will built the wall. Then he'll abolish the minimum wage. Then he'll do business only with the countries he personally has business in. I wonder who's the cuck now? But, since many cons live in bizarro world, they won't notice. Faux News, Breitbart and general Flynn's conspiracies are too much for their feeble minds. To them, Obama is a non-American Muslim/communist who founded ISIS, and that global warming is a hoax.
  6. I think Greeks should get off their high horse (the glory of ancient Hellas) and get with the reality of being a screwed-up nation. They should drop the illusion that the world owes them and that constantly conspires against them.... Since their independence, those in-bred Giaour have been a deplorable cry-babies, with genocidal and fratricidal practices.... not unlike some of their neighbors! (you know, like the f**ken Mongols). But, of course, I love all of you in this forum; you're different.
  7. Of course, there can be tariffs. But the fact is the product becomes more expensive for the consumer. It may work if you have a choice of other domestically-made products, but this is not the case of many goods. Take Greece for example; it imports most consumer goods. Walmart usually argues, especially this time of the year, that Americans can put lots more presents under their xmas tree because of those goodies are made outside the US. It actually estimated how much "richer" Americans are by having a higher purchasing power by buying stuff made outside the US.
  8. The Carrier deal is for show. Only 800 jobs were "saved." For those workers, it's great, don't get me wrong. But every month 2 million jobs are lost and 2.x are created, so 1 thousand don't make a difference. Capitalism has no country, so business move to wherever they can generate a greater profit. Usually it's the labor costs that's the biggest company expense, so companies calculate where they can operate to have maximum profit. Taxes, by the way, [and Indiana is paying a premium to keep Carrier in there] are not a top reason for company's calculation where to have a factory or office. Imposing tariffs as a penalty for companies that move out of the US and then sell their products here is a non-starter for Republicans in Congress. They want to protect the American consumer, they say, who would have to pay higher prices for commodities. More and better jobs are created when the middle class is strong, along with a skillful workforce.
  9. @aek66 "i live in the midwest and i didn't know that the kkk was such a huge force in these parts in these times. this is what the white lesbian married to her black wife in nyc says to deflect any critical thinking/review of why her beloved candidate lost. " Seriously, dude?... Most people who supported HRC didn't think or say the Trump voters were racists. But, they correctly identified this: the Trump's coalition included racists/white supremacists. .... if someone's a racist, Trump was their candidate. Right? You have to deal with this kinda company. But those east coast libruls were guessing that their "beloved candidate" wouldn't lose to a demagogue who couldn't help those blue collar workers. The midwest lost jobs aren't lost to immigrants. The factories that moved is the result of capitalism and free trade, a cornerstone of Repub politics. Coal jobs are being replaced by other forms of energy, like natural gas. Trump can't bring those jobs back. [He's already back pedaling from his con game] For one thing, these two NYC lesbians don't have to worry about associating with a party or candidate that wants to take the country back to the dark ages. [when was America great? when women and blacks knew their place?] But, do these lesbians have a reason to worry about their right to marry a person of their choice? Or, to pursue their own happiness without the fear of being sent to "conversion therapy"? Or, to adopt a child? Or, any other woman to worry about reproductive choices?..... These are not illusions ala "make America great again" but real life concerns!
  10. Horrors! What happened to "lock'er up"?! I heard that the Clinton mafia had a contract on the Trump family. I think that explains the Don's reneging on his promise to prosecute "crooked Hillary."
  11. Yes, the banks record and report transactions more that $10,000, but it's not considered evidence of income or anything else. You can transfer or deposit $100,0000 and nobody comes after you as long as you don't do it frequently. There's an algorithm the feds use to figure out who's doing money laundering but that's for lots of transactions and for lots more money. Now, if you're ever caught then such records can be used against you. But, I'm telling you, I know Greeks that deal in cash mostly, and they keep the cash in safes or in bank deposit boxes. There are lots of ways to spend cash and buy stuff, like a cars, jewelry, property, etc. But the US is a huge economy. Many years ago, I read a study that claimed the un-taxed economy was about 7% of GDP; around the same time it was estimated that it was 30% in Greece.
  12. I don't know how they do it. I have a relative who is in the food business and bought a huge property and paid cash, same with the cars he buys. If I were selling my house and someone paid me cash, I'd take it, and it'd be like any other transaction. I could be a little ..flexible as to what I'd say I sold it for but still if I were selling I'd take cash and bank it. In essence, it's cash anyway, because if you got a loan to buy my house, your bank would pay me in cash. Yes, it's reported and taxable (on the profit I'd make). But in the US you are not taxed by the feds like in Greece, where, if I'm correct, you have a house or a fancy car and thus these are considered evidence of income. The feds tax you on reported income, either by you or your employer or any other source of income, like investments. Yes, tax evasion is a crime, but rarely they go after small fish, and if you're careful you slide under the radar. The state and local tax authorities don't give a damn where you got the money to buy your house or how much you make. They charge you local property taxes (the feds don't tax you on such) based on size & value of property. If you have a business, you collect sales tax and then you pay tax on the profits. Same with the feds, they tax you on the profits.
  13. Where, in Greece? Many Greeks in the US have businesses that operate mostly in cash. They also employ undocumented laborers. They declare the minimum income that justifies keeping a business open. But many of them become rich and then they don't need no frikin bank loan; they just buy the house or car or whatever in cash!
  14. This drain of intellectual and technical talent is very damaging to Greece. It's this talent that can be drawn to other countries but it makes Greece poorer. As for the video @tantra129I found Tsipras a babbling bore; Clinton gave him many openings to state his case, but he spoke like he was addressing a crowd at a plateia....
  15. You're right, Gyros. I was thinking of future prosecution. But, yes, the president can pardon for crimes related to specific cases that have not gone to trial yet, like Ford did for Nixon. However, Obama's office said, after the election, that Clinton had not asked for a pardon nor was the president offered to give one. Obama will probably be the only president in decades not to issue pardons for political associates or supporters. Of course, after he destroys the republic and turns it into a Muslim theocracy ala ISIS (which he founded as per Trump), he can pardon himself. Sweet! But he better hurry up.... I think this will happen between xmas and new year's when the nation is preoccupied with the holidays.
  16. The president can't pardon ..future convictions. Clinton has not been convicted in a court of law only in the court of public opinion. Priebus as CoS will do what's best for Trump and the Republican party, and they don't care about Macedonia. I'd worry more about general Flynn, who's pro-Turkish.
  17. I've been saying that Trump has been making things up as he goes. He's a great b.s artist who tells people what they want to hear, but he's also a superb con artist in that he sells you his polished turd. That's his strength, as a candidate and as a salesman of his business. He's been selling crap for gold. Anywho.... In his last speech before the election he said, "drain the swamp." Then on Sunday he gives and interview (60 Minutes TV magazine) and when asked about how come his transition team and possible appointees are lobbyists, so he said something like, that's the people I can find.... Anyway, I'm willing to give him a chance and judge him on Jan. 20th 2017 when his full gov will be in place, and throughout his presidency, but so far the joke is on the people who voted for him. Let's see what he does with his BIG promises and main policy proposals of his campaign. So, I want to see a WALL, not a puny fense here and there; HR Clinton prosecuted for murdering people in Benghazi, and giving national secrets to enemies of the US, that nasty woman; and deportation of 2-3 million of illegals. I want to see completely repealing Obamacare and replacing with "something tremendous." I wan to see factories and jobs come back to the US. I want to see how he handles foreign policy and exhibits his superior knowledge than our generals, etc. etc. By the way, so far the State Dept hasn't received a call from Trump's transition team. Again, he has 2 months before he gets to work, but there are indications how he thinks about government and the people he's choosing to run it.
  18. Oh, great. I'm starting a new campaign to get the true Hellenes on board to restore our great civilization. We should not rest until the Parthenon is restored to its old glory and re-dedicated to Athena! You infidels, occupying our land! Brainwashed children of an alien religion born in Judea. Pfff.
  19. It's not practical nor prudent to have open borders right now. I wouldn't want Greeks coming into my country in large numbers wanting to build Churches, be loud, disrespecting our beautiful environment, throw garbage everywhere, when they don't understand how to be civil (they argue all the time, and seemingly hate each other), and don't really understand how a modern country should operate without corruption and with civic order and respect. I fear that many of them don't really accept the democratic process, nor care for human rights, or civil rights, and don't understand the concept of separation church-state.
  20. The two countries were never happy with the Lausanne treaty and had lots of internal opposition to the leaders who signed it, accusing them of being traitors. There won't probably be a big war between Greece and Turkey, but it doesn't have to be. A small one, a few days or weeks long and Greece will lose more ground as Turkey's military is bigger and geography favors it. NATO wouldn't allow it? Then how did it allow it in 1974? Greece should be very careful in picking a fight, because it's weaker now. Erdogan dreams of greater Turkey; he's very dangerous, like Putin. Both see that a conflict near their borders is an opportunity for expansion and for spurring nationalism which makes them stronger.
  21. oh, sorry, I didn't think there was anything to offend
  22. Yeah, but what about my question, ... will Obama throw open the borders the day after the election or will wait for H Clinton to do it on Jan 20th, 2017, sometime in the afternoon that day? As for Barry, he'll have plenty of time after he leaves office to do stuff like that, including dressing up Michelle, though she doesn't strike me a the Melania poodle. On the other hand, I hear, that Obama is planning a coup, so he can hold on to power like Putin.
  23. Guys, why shouldn't the Muslim community in Thrace or anywhere else not "import" imams? Is there a Muslim religious academy in Greece that trains imams? Greek Americans in the US bring in priests from GR even though I think there's a theological school in the US. Please don't tell me that Turkey doesn't allow Xtian seminary nor the importation of priests... (which is true) as an excuse. Either you accept the principle of individual rights, including free worship, or not. Turkey is not an enlightened country and it's treading back to authoritarian and religious rule.
  24. ^^ Oh, no. She's busted! My question to you, is will Obama throw open the borders the day after the election or will wait for H Clinton to do it on Jan 20th, 2017, sometime in the afternoon that day?
