  1. Not surprising, the only b.s. you detect is your own.... Oh, for a guy who can't capitalize proper words, or after "." that's rich! So, yeah, I looked it up https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/contemporary Contemporary can be confusing because of its slightly different meanings. In everyday use, it generally means simply "modern" or "new". But before the 20th century it instead referred only to things from the same era as certain other things; so, for instance, Jesus was contemporary with the Roman emperors Augustus and Tiberius, and Muhammad was contemporary with Pope Gregory the Great. And contemporary is also a noun: thus, Jane Austen's contemporaries included Coleridge and Wordsworth, and your own contemporaries were born around the same year that you were. 1 : happening, existing, living, or coming into being during the same period of time <The book is based on contemporary accounts of the war.> In other words, when many people who are alive have experienced something, it's contemporary. The 1950s is not ancient history. The PBS docu, which you most probably haven't watched because it'd disturb your bs notions, ,shows what "slavery by another name" means in a contemporary sense. As in the example above, Jesus didn't have the exact life span of the mentioned Roman emperors, but was contemporary of them... Contemporary can also be used to mean modern (appropriate for its time) So, yeah, to borrow from Jonathan Swift (not a contemporary, 18th c.), the government, in all of its wisdom, passed a law, applied to all, rich and poor, prohibiting sleeping under bridges and begging for food. And, another quote from JS: laws are like spider webs, they're designed to catch the small flies but most often let the wasps and hornets fly through. Trump won partly because he assured people like you that their make-believe universe is real and daddy will fix everything, don't you worry about anything now... go to sleep...
  2. If anyone came from outer space they would think America is experiencing a "huge carnage".... if they listened to the gasbag in chief, who right at his inauguration described a third world country. Did he not? how come you missed that but you noticed what Madonna had to say.... puleaze Of course, the real carnage was what Obama inherited from Bush and the Repubs.... but according to the orange primate O was "the worst president"... give me a F***in break.
  3. You're rambling, and again you put up a straw man to beat up. Funny thing you talk about personal responsibility and accountability... Please tweet that to the Great Leader. By the way, the documentary above is not about 1904 (?!) or about "poor/mentally ill" people... You should watch it. Maybe you can learn something about the reality of discrimination and abuse in contemporary America.
  4. Of course he's energized the deplorables. The KKK, the bigots, the extreme right, and the Russians all endorsed him. In normal times, doing or saying 1/10th of what Trump's behavior would have been more than enough to disqualify any serious candidate. So, yeah, it matters how he got to the presidency. We shouldn't normalize his deplorable behavior simply because he managed to win the White House. I'm not saying all Trump voters are deplorables. Many mean well, are decent people; they're just misguided as to their assessment of and expectations from DJT. Imagine how he would be behaving today, same with the Repubs and several of members here, if HRC won because she had asked the Russians to find and release Trump's emails, and his tax records, while the FBI director announced the week before the election that he has found damning evidence of Trump University, his ties to Russia, tax evasion, etc. For all her faults, we knew how bad HRC was. And, the worst was a mudslinging campaign for 30 years, with the help of Russians in the last 2 years. But, I fear we do not know the worst of Trump. If this is cause for celebration, then more people should have shown for DJT inauguration.
  5. Judging from his speeches, his garish taste, and his narcissistic personality, he will make America suffer again.
  6. Oh, sure, it'll be a "historic day tomorrow".... Like the worst approval rating (32%) of any incoming president.... I could add names of autocrats here and the "historic" days they came to power, but let's give the guy a chance, you know, like the Repubs gave Obama...
  7. My b.s. detector is buzzing again..... Let me move away from this thread (for a while) to see if it stops..
  8. Yep, slavery, or indentured servitude, existed until the 1950s in several states. The above documentary is excellent. I don't know how you can watch that and not shed a tear. This is not ancient history. There are people alive who have witnessed this history. Put yourself in that situation, even if you're under 50 yrs old, you still have relatives and family stories telling you about slavery and segregation. Replace white America with your favorite villain. The Ottomans? Now, how would you behave? If there's any guide how Greeks behave or feel about the Ottomans/Turks, then you get the idea... Now, how about them criminals?..
  9. I appreciate your explanation of the situation. I don't know who gets warned and why/when, but yeah we should all be more civil. So, OK, I got a yellow card... It was a ..professional foul
  10. ^^^ Why me? I responded to insults. Some members here have personally attacked me, in this thread, and I said nothing.
  11. How mature you two are.... I'd ask the Russians to release the video of you two using this "Butt-hurt Salve" on each other, but, the liberal I'm, I respect your private time, for now, to masturbate to your idol... Buttheads....
  12. Don't listen to hardcore cons, like the poster above, who are hung up on one issue, immigration. The majority of Americans (plurality of Repubs too) want imm reform that includes legalization. But, the rhetoric is appealing to those cons...such rhetoric has been used by many ultra-nationalists and agitators.....that it's your fault you've fallen behind...it's the foreigners, the traitors within, the corrupt media, minorities, (insert names here), etc... If you elect me, I'll restore your greatness, keep you safe (yeah, the fear factor is yuge), so let's all chant U-S-A.... And, guess what? people fall for this.. Energize enough voters, suppress the opposition by accusing the other candidate of the worst violations, add a fortuitous opportunity of that candidate not being very much liked, and that's your recipe for winning an election. @JimAdams The Russians blackmailing Trump? with sex tapes? That would explain why he's so pro-Russian. Impeachment? By all means! After all, the Repubs would be starting the procedure for Hillary already!
  13. I'm surprised they filmed in Greece.... Like the latest Jason Bourne movie while supposedly taking place in Greece, they filmed it in Malta, I think. They didn't want to deal with the Greek reality. I have to say, aerial shots of Greece are of the most beautiful...
  14. I tell you what he's going to say.... bullshit generalities about making America great again, how he picked some good people, very good people, amazing people, to be in his administration. And that he will replace Obamacare with something tremendous, and how he'll defeat the Muslim terrorists with the help of Russia. Basically what a 12 year old malcontent with the attention span of 140 characters would say..... @Bananas what you say about minimum wage and the middle class having more money in their pockets is precisely what DJT will not deliver. We still have to examine poll data, but let's not jump on the bandwagon the middle class is frustrated and that's why they voted for Trump. The middle class fared better since 2009, unemployment is lower, 20 million + got health insurance, etc. For a few thousand votes (insignificant amount in this country) in 3 states, the narrative would have been different, something like, Americans chose stability, a qualified leader, and rewarded the party that got them out of the Great Recession, brought troops, home, etc, etc. And, by the way, HRC beat DJT by 2.9 million ..of Americans.
  15. Great comeback by Aahnuld. I would take the Terminator as president any day over Drumpf.
  16. I'm a fan of the Pontian Hanoumia, though I can't decide which emblem suits them better. Any ideas? By the way, do you object to the The Hellenic Warriors' symbol? [They're from Skopje]
  17. Trump can't change; that's his nature. He'll try to run the country as a TV reality show, by Twitting random views on important issues, and by believing he's the best expert on everything. Trump has never been accountable to anyone, and this is a very dangerous thing. I wonder if our friends here who supported his candidacy will ever admit his shortcomings...
  18. OK. I'm new here, but from reading the above, am I supposed to think that blacks are bad and whites, especially white cops, are good? I can't believe the free ride blacks have gotten in the US. You give them all the benefits of welfare, ample opportunities to become rich, and all they want is to complain! Whites would not do any of that! I'm now educated. By the way, did you see those Greeks f##@king up everything, burning down the Polytechnic, destroy public and private property, and degrading the SUPER league? They've been given all the money from lenders (only to waste it) ever since the foreign powers defeated the Ottomans to given them a new shot at having a country, and they've really F***ed it up!
  19. I see why these Trumpies need top security clearance. They must be experts in something....
  20. Great example you give, but it's in vain. The persons you're trying to reason with aren't able to analyze and synthesize information. How can you make someone change their mind by using reason when they arrive at their conclusion without it? Teddy Roosevelt's actions were over 100 years ago, and things have changed, including what was appropriate. Women, blacks, imms all "knew their place" back then when America was great! right? But, the Trumpies are a contemporary phenomenon of excess in bad taste, morals, abuse, and crookedness.
  21. There isn't a "whole" when it comes to many issues. I don't think we can say "Americans have something against a medical safety net".... More people are in favor of it. If Hillary's vote count (3 million votes more than Trump) means anything... plus, many others who oppose Obamacare are actually in favor of it if you just tell them what it is (its main elements) but remove the tag "Obamacare". Big majorities in the US favor Medicare (for senior citizens), veterans' care, Medicaid (for poor), etc. These programs are socialized medicine. Same with Social Security (retirement program) and other social safety net programs. It's been the Repubs who have been confusing people. They use lies and scare tactics, the same with some members here who keep repeating the same nonsense. They'd have you believe that Obamare is ..socialist It's not. A socialist approach would be what HRC and Bernie were advocating: universal coverage; like extending Medicare to everyone. In fact, Obamacare is forcing individuals to buy health insurance from.... (ready for this?) private health insurance companies! And, to be treated in private hospitals insurance companies work with. It's like forcing everyone to buy car insurance. The idea is to spread the risk, and have a pool of money to cover the sick. But for pools to work, everybody has to enroll, not only the sick (or bad drivers). Oh, and the gov gives financial support to those who can't afford to buy insurance, which money in turn goes to the pockets of private insurers! By the way, an additional 6+ million of Americans have signed up for Obamacare since the election! Part of me says, let the Repubs repeal Obamacare and throw 25+ million people out of health care coverage.... Trump said he'd replace this system with "something terrific."
  22. Oh, stop it.... How about those missing emails? And the Clinton Foundation??? Did I forget Benghazi?? Or, the pizzagate (trafficking underage for sex).... What's wrong with those Drumpfs asking for big $$$$ from people who have lots of money and want to go hunting with the Trumpies, or giving the donors a chance to meet their daddy? It's not the same as pay-for-play Hillary was doing! She tried to hide it (and she did a great job since we can't find that connection) whereas the Trumpies are doing in the open! Same with appointing the head of Exxon-Mobil to be Secy of State! The conflict of interest is right there in the open! You libruls...
  23. Oh, those must be librul lies! We know CNN as part of the "most dishonest" news media cabal. [I'm being sarcastic. I wish more people looked up Snopes, especially those idiots who perpetuate conspiracy theories] OK, I understand when V. Putin is liked by 37% of the Republicans [traitors?], because, after all, those cons love big brother (or spanking father) figures who are authoritarian. But, 52% of Repubs believe Trump won the popular vote! [he lost to HRC by 2.8 million votes] Trump himself, who now loves the Electoral College, keeps saying he won the election by a landslide! [the EC vote margin: 46th out of 58 elections]. Reality is warped in Drumpf's world and con universe.
  24. Oh, com'on guys..... As I indicated in my post, "truthiness" [look closely].... if I want to believe something as true, then it is true! And, by the way, can YOU, or anyone, prove to me he didn't say it?.. No, you can't! I'm expecting to get support by the usual crowd here who have used this kind of "logic" to prove their points..... Hey, guys, if you play by such rules, why can't I?
