Bad result. Tie would have been better. If we can win the next two games against Panionios, we should be in good shape.

You are a lucky guy.

Looks like Vitor will be available for the game, but I doubt if he will play. Also Tziolis and Kace will miss this game due to cards, and Jairo due to injury.
My lineup for the game:
-------------------- Glykos ------------------
Kitsiou - Malezas - Tzavellas - Leovac
-------- Cimirot ------ Charisis -----------
Mystakidis ------ Pelkas ----------- Mak
---------------- Athanasiadis --------------
-
Bringing in a player of Berbatov's caliber is counter productive if you're gonna have him play with a supporting cast such as Glykos, Kitsiou, Malezas, Kace, Klaus, Korovesis, etc.
Like I said, Berbatov came to PAOK in order to fulfill Ivan's wet dream and marketing purposes.

I on the other hand would not let any of our players travel to Australia for the two useless games. Let them get some rest before the next season starts. let's not forget PAOK season started way too early back in July 2015.

Kitsiou and Pelkas were cut from the NT squad going to Australia
Today, Sabo was given the ok to join Slovakia's training camp starting, so he is done for the season.

I like how people here and elsewhere are acting as Ivan's accountants worrying about his money.
Berbatov was Ivan's wet dream and he just went and got him just to satisfy himself. At least he did not go all out for Ronaldinho. I think in the process it was a good promotion for the club all over Europe and the World. I am sure some people who have never heard of PAOK before, now know about the club.
Getting him was a good marketing move by Ivan. As pash mentions the deal probably helped getting the SportinBet sponsorship. Don't know if we sold all the jerseys to cover his salary (probably not). All I know is that me and my two kids own a Berbatov jersey.
-
Vellios is not coming to PAOK. He said that in Greece he will play for Iraklis only. He was close to going to Olympiakos in winter, but he or the Thyra 10 organized fans prevented Papathanasakis from selling him. As a result the infusion of cash into Iraklis has suddenly stopped.
I don't think Klaus is going anywhere. I don't see him having any success anywhere else besides PAOK.
We don't need to make drastic changes to the roster. We just need to add around 5 top notch players in every line.
I am very sure that one of the goalies (Glykos or Vellidis) besides Olsen, Skondras, Golasa, Antonis, Berbatov and possibly Vitor, Jairo and Pereyra will bid us goodbye in the summer.
-
Savvidis has good intentions, but is clueless on how to run a team. Throwing money at the problem is not the solution. Savvidis can bring in Messi and Murinho to PAOK, and forces behind the scenes people will be undermining his actions. That's why Steffens, Arnesen, Aggelidis, Berbatov, Natho, Noboa can't stay around. The problem is pressure from fans and media, when results are not happening instantly. In my opinion fans and certain Thessaloniki media have way too much influence on people running teams in the city.
-
I still think Olsen is a better goalie than either Glykos or Vellidis. It just did not work out for him at PAOK. It's probably better for both sides to split ways.
As for Koulouris, I don't see how he can make it at PAOK. As it stands now Klaus will be above him, and if we as a team want to go anywhere, we need a better striker than Klaus to be the starter. I see him as a 3rd stringer if he comes back to the team. I just hope they are not that stupid at PAOK and decide not to get a top notch striker during the transfer period.

Leader,
You mean: third place will give us a ticket for Q3 EL as long as AEK does not finishes last, I suppose?
You're correct. Also tonight we might know if there is till a chance that the "good" ticket might lead to EL group stage.
In any case, if we don't finish last in the playoffs, we are looking at basically the same scenario: starting the European campaign at the end of July.
-
The four teams involved in he playoffs agreed to have the games played within the 48 hour limit. Would be interesting to see what would happen if some players took the issue to UEFA.
-
No the story is not exaggerated. AE Pontion Iraklis has deep financial problems. Not only paying their bills, but also paying its players. Some players are already taking the legal options to get their wages after the club failed to get a Superleague license.
The thing is that the presumed owner Spyros Papathanasakis either ran out of money, or the source where he was getting income has been cut off. I was always skeptical about a guy from Toronto that no one has ever heard about before he was placed as the AEP Iraklis owner. How did a person who owns a pub, is the director of non-profit youth center, and ran as a school board trustee all of a sudden took over a professional team in Thessaloniki?
On top of that the Autonomous Thyra 10, the fan club has a lot of power influencing decisions made at the club. And from what it appears they have now turned against Papathanasakis.

Looks like PAOK and Copenhagen are close to a deal to sell Olsen to the Danish team.

Now that AEK won the Greek Cup, they hold the good ticket for Europa League, PAOK two goals in the playoffs should be to win the playoffs and not finish in last place.
By winning the playoffs we will go to CL qualifying round 3. Second and third place in playoffs will give us a ticket to the 3rd qualifying round of EL as long as AEK does not win the playoffs.
There is a slight chance that a second place in the playoffs might lead to the group stage of EL, but for that to happen, AEK would have to win the playoffs and Seville would have to win both the Europa League and the Spanish Cup.

The coaches of U17 team that won the championship, Zazopoulos and Garcia were promoted to the U20 team for next season. As a result of PAOK winning the U17 championship, the U20 team will take part in the UEFA Youth Champions League.
-
Just prove the fact that when the officiating is 50-50 everyone has a chance to win. Congratulations to AEK.

What a ###### bourdello the Superleague (and EPO) and its playoffs have become. Games are rescheduled for depending on which way the wind blows.
Now the round 6 of the playoffs will be played on either May 31 or June 1, past the UEFA deadline for EURO based players to join their respective NT teams. This affect PAOK (Mak, Sabo) and Panathinaikos (Berg). Mak and Berg are way too important players for their teams to be missing. Additionally, Greek NT players leave for Australia on June 1st. If I was PAOK, I would not give the ok for the 4 PAOK NT players to join them.
The play-offs schedule as of today (it can change at any moment):
FRI, 20-May, 20:30 GR: AEK - Panionios (Round 2)
MON, 23-May, 18:15 GR: Panionios - PAOK (Round 3)
MON, 23-May, 20:30 GR: Panathinaikos - AEK (Round 3)
THU, 26-May, 18:15 GR: PAOK - Panionios (Round 4)
THU, 26-May, 20:30 GR: AEK - Panathinaikos (Round 4)
SUN, 29-May, 18:15 GR: Panathinaikos - Panionios (Round 5)
SUN, 29-May, 20:30 GR: AEK - PAOK (Round 5)
TUE, 31-May, 20:15 GR: PAOK - Panathinaikos (Round 6)

Tziolis will be missed in this game in my opinion.
Bakasetas will not play for Panionios because he signed with AEK.
