Past "reports" indicated that they weren't happy with his lack of offensive production (and with Taylor's inability to defend). Personally I think Soares was pretty damn good, if not on Matos' level. Saw somewhere that we were not interested in Franco after all, but who knows. Wouldn't be surprised if we get a lot of reports of young Portuguese players considering who our new TD is. Automatically makes everything sound more plausible.

For the moment, for better or worse, he's a marginal player in the defense. If we can get an acceptable amount of money, it would be a good time to make the jump. But I do agree he's our best defender, and we should instead try to re-sign him (though a million per year is kind of extreme).
