HOLLYWOOD Posted December 8, 2005 Share Posted December 8, 2005 Unfortunately there is not one Greek team that has a pedigree high enough in europe to purchase "world class players", that would aid in building a team to compete in Europe. However, this is not say players with potential are not welcome in PAO, or any Greek team for that matter. In the past, top performances by Greek teams in Europe occured when one group of players grew and mattured togther over a lengthy period of time. In addition, these teams were predominantly comprised of Greek players. Therefore, scince Greek teams do not have the money or the prestige to buy a world class team, it must be made. We have great potential going to waste even in our domestic league never mind abroad. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TOO! 1)Agritis 2)Fotakis 3)Lagos 4)the Kapetanos brothers on iraklis 5)Sifakis 6)Kotsolis 7)Barkoglou 8) Leontiou 9)Tziolis 10)Moras 11)Taralidis 12)Vallas 13)Vakouftsis( i have no idea where the hell he is but I remeber him being a fantastic player) ALL OF THESE YOUNG SOLID PLAYERS ARE BEING WASTED!!!!!!! instead we get washed up s%$#! foreign players like Seric, Conceisao, Torgelle, Rezic, Andric, Signori, Maric, Zutautas, Skacel, Wooter, etc These are players which have been taking the places of our quality youth players. Even in the glory days of AEK, PAO, OLY, PAOK, IRAKLIS, OFI, Panionios, Aris ( all of these at one point held there ground in europe) THESE FOREGNERS WOULD NOT EVEN MAKE THE BENCH!!!!! so why do administrations give them so much praise and money that Basinas, Karagounis, Giannakopoulos, Fyssas, Machlas, Tsartas, Nikolaidis, Nikopolidis never saw( i doubt many of the players on our euro cup winning ethniki had contracts in Greece overing or at a million euros) WE TALK ABOUT EUROPEAN TEAMS UNDERVALUING GREEK PLAYERS !!! IF THAT WERE THE CASE THAN THESE PLAYERS WOULD HAVE STAYED HERE BUT WE TURNED THEM AWAY WE MADE THEM FEEL WORTHLESS IN GREECE BY SPENDING MONEY XEFTILISMENI PAXITES APO TO EXOTERIKO personally this is what i would love to see a greek team do, and thus far i only see AEK making an effort to have a proper administration TRYING TO BUILD A PROPER FUTURE!!!! not a quick fix attitude by buying new players that suck from abraod or getting horrible coaches ( Sollid, Malesani, Skazni, Soum) pao tends to specialize lately in buying crap coaches, why dont they go after coaches like Markarian, Anastasiadis, Kyrastas(RIP), Rotsa, Gmoch?? alexch Posted December 8, 2005 Share Posted December 8, 2005 its not as if these teams dont have akadimies either.... look at PAOs under 19 team in HOLLAND last year in the wold freindly tournament.. they beat milan, a team frm brazil i cant remember and the well known academy of AJAX yes u saw correctly AJAX in the FINAL....!!!! same with OLY and AEK akadimies which are highly looked at but the mangement in greek teams plainly are trash.... bring the young guns in GAMOTO!!!!! im not saying there should be no abroad players in the team but the majority should be young and through the greek acadamies.... or at least young hot prospects frm abroad like toure and babginda... dont trash the teams with Danides, Biscanades, Conseicaoides, etc etc.... they r here for simple, easy retirement... I have thought about it and things will never change in Greek football as it is a reflection on Greek cultural attitude. The belief is that youth is wasted on the young. This is what I have understood by my understanding on how modern Greeks live. For example, in Greece you're not considered "middle age" until after the age of 50. Like these people think they are going to live till they are 120!?!? I met a distant relative who had recently moved to Chicago from Greece and when we were chatting away he asked how old I was and I told him that I was turning 30 soon and he stated that I was still young and that he didn't get married till 39 and he thought he was young when he got married. So if people still think they are young at 50 ( a difference from being young at heart and active etc) then someone at 34 is a valid option on our Greek football teams. It's down to perceptions. We should be blooding players from youth teams in our 1st squads. Look at Real Madrid v Olympiakos, sure they lost last night, but they had 4 or 5 players that will benefit enormously from the experience of playing a CL game away from home. Why can't our teams do the same? Why can't PAO put in 1/2 a young team against Werder Bremen? The chance of progressing to the UEFA was remote. I am sure they wouldn't have copped 5 or did any worse than the "full" team did. Why on earth is Zagorakis still captaining our NT when his performances the last year have been extremely poor? His next birthday is his 35th! Why is Taki Fyssas still a regular in our NT when he is nearly 33 and with no plans of retiring? He is already a Euro winner. Retire with dignity or you will stop getting selected, however this is not the attitude in Greek Football. Why isn't Samaras not playing for the NT? He turned 20 some time ago. He is not in High school anymore? If he is as good as they say, then he should be tried in the NT! On the club level, a washed up 30 something Brazillian is more viable and attractive to the side than a promising yet rough Greek teen! Very backward thinking and this is why Greek clubs will continue to struggle. We do have the potential to discover a Rooney or Robinho. I recently turned 30 myself and I am trying to be a bit objective with my views so I would like to think I am not being hyprocritical. For the money PAO has spent, and the time alotted, and the patience of the fans, the results are pittiful.... and, you seem to boast about the occasional ..threepointer* while ignoring that our team hasn't been consistent, hasn't played any decent football.... PAO has been in CRISIS for many years now.... Unless we all understand this, nothing will change. *I can sink a threepointer under any ..coach, but I'm not able to play on a basketball team... I belive that he only cares about 2 things. Making money and doing a good job. Look, we can keep Malessani and see what happens. I just thinkt that until know he as a coach doesn't understand some foundamental issues regarding coaching. He needs to assign specific roles to players. ex: aganist Werder Gonzales was freed to play behind Togerlle. Tziolis and Conseisao had to share the BH role. But all I saw was Gonzlaes covering up, Tziolis tryed to help out all over the place without much succes and Conseisao was always walking endinup second to to our opponenets at the ball. Nillson was hidden somewhere. Papadopoulos was stuck in the wing line somewere towards the middle. Darlas constantly tried to carry the ball and do anything, behimself resulting in always loosing it due to a bad pass or steal. Biscan was the worst player. He COULD NOT RUN AS FAST AS THE WERDER STRIKERS. He is pathetic as a CB Morris was all alone trying to do Biscan's job as well. Togerlle was dissaponting. He makes me miss Kostadinou... Mihalakis could do so much more things than him and plus he was able to cooperate with Papadopoulo, or Geka. Togerlle tried to score by himself. Of course not even a chance... I fell sorry for Galinovich. He must be having so many nightmares every night after a big game... Anyway soccer players need simple gudance according to their abilities. not malezanikes alchimies Not 1 day this the other day that. THERE ARE MANY MANY THINGS THAT MAKE ME WONDER WHAT THE HELL IS HE THINKING... 1) Biscan is not a CB. Because the team lost to Udinesse 3-0, it doesn't mean that it was Biscan's fault. He hardly had to do anything with any of the goals. So he used Biscan as a CB away in Barcha and Werder and we got raped. The same goes for Basina in the National team. Whenever Basianas was used as a CB we got scored easy goals. 2) Blind trust to Conseisao. Why is he that good ? Did he ever went frist to the ball or always was his opponent ? Plus .WHY ON EARTH DOES HE TAKE THE SET PIECES. NOT ALL THE TEAMS HAVE SIFAKIDES (OFI) TO WAIT FOR THE BOSSE'S MAIN TEAM... 3) Why trust Andrich. He is worst than Lincar who couldn't survive in Akratitos... :LOL: 4) Constantly use Gonzales as a Bh... 5) Serich is not a LX. Use him were he can play already !!! 6) Darlas is not ready for Europe !!! 7) So is Leondiou, but he could at least do better than anyone else as a LX, since the only one Theodorides is lost in the Bench. 8) Why not use Olisadebe, who scored the 2 goals you needed to overcome WIsla. 9) Nilsson SUCKS BIG TIME.
