XXX-18T
Ajax has defeated FC Utrecht 2-0 - its first victory in the city for seven and a half years - to narrow the gap with league leader PSV Eindhoven to five points. Wesley Sneijder side-footed the first goal in the 66th minute after new signing Angelos Charisteas held up the ball before squaring it across the edge of the box. The pass arrived after John Heitinga's dummy confused two Utrecht defenders. Substitute Ryan Babel cemented the points with a brilliant individual strike in the last minute. Babel collected his own header in midfield, outpaced the Utrecht defence and rolled the ball between goalie Joost Terol's legs. "Utrecht hardly had a chance," Ajax coach Ronald Koeman told Dutch television. "But we should have made it 2-0 through Nigel de Jong a lot earlier." De Jong whacked the ball high over the bar a metre from goal after Etienne Shew-Atjon blocked Heitinga's header on the line. http://wwiii.sbs.com.au/home/index.php3?id=53979 bravo Angele :nw:
