Karagianni will miss the women's 100 meters hurdles event after she pulled a muscle in her upper leg during training. She went to get a cat scan to reveal the injury. This is a major blow for her as she was looking to add a potential PB. She is a very beautiful athlete. 🥰

What a performance by Stefanidi!
She has yet to miss in the finals!
She is making Sutej and Murto work hard for that gold medal.
Murto gets a NR for Finland
All three ladies at 4.75

On the final throw in the men's hammer throw, Frantzeskakis ends it on a positive note of 78.20, a new personal best. Finishes 6th place.
Anastasiou finished 19th in the women's 200 meters semifinals at 23.60

Fantastic display by Gusin in the women's high jump qualification despite performing in the rain with leg cramps. 5th place at 1.87 and into her first major finals.
All relay teams did not make it to the finals. The men's 4 x 100 did ran well, they are probably like one or two quality sprinter away from being a great team.
Karyidi competing tonight, not expecting a medal, but hopefully a top 8 finish.

Latest news is that Drisbioti has decided to take part in the 20 km walk. Might be another chance for a medal as she is in good form.

Another hope for medal is Tzengo. If she throws over 63 meter I think she will be close to medal.

Karalis has been a big disappointment this season following the great showing in the Olympics.

UNBELEIVABLE! DRISBIOTI WON GOLD IN THE 20 KM!
SHE IS A TWO TIME EUROPEAN CHAMPION!

She did it by getting a lifetime best of 1:29:03, defeating Poland's Kataryna Zdzieblo (who won both silver medals in the World Championships) in a close race.
Antigoni became the first Greek athlete to win multiple gold medals in a European Athletics Championships.

Second gold medal for Greece! Elina Tzengko was killing it tonight! How in Gods name did she miss the World Championships Finals?
Silver goes to Serbia's Adriana Vilagos and bronze to Barbora Spotakova.

Gusin finished 9th place at 1.86
Pesiridou did not advance into the finals, finishing 6th place in the semifinals heat at 13.19

As we conclude the European Athletics Championship, Greece ends up with 5 medals (4 gold 1 silver)
Not bad I must say, aside from Tentoglou's gold and Stefanidi's silver, Drisbioti's double gold medal and Tzengko's impressive gold at age 19 were the highlights of this tournament.

Good results in the full first day of the U23 European Championships:

Emmanoulidou qualified to the final thanks to having the 6th best time (11.32) in the semifinals. She will need to do much better to medal in the final.

In the men's hammer throw two of our athletes (Dousakis with 70.08 and Polychroniou with 68.36) made it to the final. Korakidis (66.09) did not make it.

In men's discus throw, Bouzakis (53.44) qualified to the final. Pavlidis (53.05) failed to qualify. Pavlidis has been an utter disappointment since his national record throw of 64.90 back in the USA earlier this year.

Despolari qualified to the finals of 800 meters with best qualifying time of all participants with 2:04.53.

Retsa qualified to the pole vault final with a jump of 4.10

Dragomirova is in 18th place in the heptathlon after the first day.

Also failing to make the finals are Stamatinikolas in long jump with 7.03, Kosmidou in hammer throw with 61.11, Karydi (12.88) and Rapti (12.49) in triple jump.

Greece ended the European Athletics U23 Championship on a high note, grabbing three more medals to finish with four (1 gold 1 silver, 2 bronze). Elina Tzengko was no surprise in getting gold, she was the only javelin thrower in the contest over 60 meters (finished at 60.73). Panagiota Dosi was having an incredible run at the high jump, leaped over her personal best of 1.89 after a perfect start over 1.75, 1.80, 1.84 and 1.87. At the podium she sang the Greek anthem despite getting silver because Elena Kulichenko of Cyprus won the contest, which is a historic first at these Under 23 European Championship. After a disappointing 5th place finish at the 100 meters, Polyniki Emmanouilidou made sure she comes home with a medal and it's bronze at the 200 meters at 21.43. I have noticed from both of her final races, she needs to improve on her starts. Only 20 and will mature more in the coming years. Lucky for her, she is eligible for the next European Under 23 in 2025 at Bergen, Norway. She will be 22 at that time. There were some close calls by the 4 x 100 men's relay team (lost out to Poland by 0.03 seconds) and Maria Kassou from the women's 10,000 meters. They both finished in 4th place and could have added 2 more medals.

Ioannis Kariofylis was a pleasant surprise, he reached the men's 200 meters finals and got 5th place. He needed a PB of 20.84 to get this far. Nikolaos Polychroniou was the bright spot in the men's hammer throw, finished 5th at 71.50. Dafni Lavasa finished 6th place at the women's 10,000 meters.
