Irlandos
Greece play their first WC 2014 qualifier in Riga against Latvia, tomorrow Friday, 7/9/12. All the best to Santos and our lads! :gr:
mangas21
this is the type of game that should be a non issue - a game we are expected to win and a game that we should win...period. If we want to considered a "more" elite team, these are the games we should cruise to victory......come to think of it, looking at the teams in this section we should not lose one game. The teams needs to start thinking this way - we advanced to the quarters in the euro, beat russia are ranked in top FIFA 20 - so...............this should be an easy victory......2-0, or 3-1... IT ALL DEPENDS ON US....DO WE SIT BACK AND GIVE THE OTHER TEAM THAROS or DO WE DICTATE THE PACE, RHYTHM AND IMPOSE OUR WILL ON THE GAME. That always seems to be the issue. Lazarus
The Greeks are not playing serious ball (once again). It seems they thought the game would have been handed to them just because they ranked higher than Brazil in the FIFA rankings.

Irlandos
My thoughts: Greece did well to press so far up the field. Maniatis should've put that chance away. The Latvian goal came totally against the run of play.

jarvis1981
Didn't see the whole half but Greece carried the play. What concerns me is the mental lapses that have occurred. 1-Maniatis hits the left post but then lost his poise and could have easily controlled the rebound and put it in. No...he had to show the drama of the miss and forgot that the ball was in play. How many times have we seen this happen to other teams and they easily put in the rebound. 2- Didn't need to take the guy down in the box. The Latvian pushed the ball forward but still need to get to the ball. He could have been closed down by another player. Bad play by the defenseman there. Overall....Greece can still win this game. They need to keep pressing and something will happen. Latvia does not have the depth that Greece has. Perhaps this "kick in the butt" will get the team to focus and finish. It's only the first game of the tournament so a loss or a tie isn't the end of the world but I do want to see the team pressing forward and creating chances. mangas21
it would be so nice if S O M E B O D Y - A N Y B O D Y could dribble past a latvian player.....geez.... we need to keep moving - off the ball movement attack open spaces and there is plenty of open space...
