Sweden have called up Zlatan for the upcoming qualifiers. They play Georgia and Kosovo. Will see if Greece will have to face him when we play Sweden in September & then in October.
-
Roberto was an incredible goalie, I really like Sa too I think he should have stopped the first goal. I think he is just fighting a confidence issue the last few games as was the case vs PSV. Anyways I hope Olympiakos come out strong tomorrow and pop in an early goal and that will unsettle Arsenal as they can be had at the back.
-
Exactly they are playing for the country! ?? the greatest country on Gods green earth! This is not a silly North American League sport were you have teams with players comprising different nationalities the same team.
-
I think that’s most likely the case. Sokratis is probably not to happy about not getting called up since the Euro qualifiers. Anyways the Ethniki needs to move forward and put all its focus into these upcoming qualifiers. I hope JVS has them prepared and ready to play.
-
True especially regarding Sokratis he has been average since joining Olympiakos. He isn’t conditioned to play the full 90 at the moment especially vs a team like Spain. His leadership and mentoring for the younger guys this World Cup campaign would have been a bonus had he wanted to come in with no attitude and agenda.

Good points but to say no to playing for a chance to go to the World Cup is disappointing. Especially since they can help us on the field.
-
Good for Kapino I have not seen much of him since he left Olympiakos. Maybe he will see some action in our friendly vs Honduras.
-
That’s disappointing news. I hope they are not being petty and holding a grudge if that’s the case then JVS shouldn’t rely on them. Good to see K Paps back in the fold.

What a terrible last 10 minutes Olympiakos could have got out with a draw but lose 1-3. At 1-1 they would have had a great chance to go through. Arsenal are nothing special. The second goal was a push in the back on Gabriel. Typical UEFA mafia. Sa had another of night but the team only played a solid 15 minutes in the second half. Arsenal gifted us a goal and we should have had another. Masouras should have given the ball to El arabi for an easy tap in. Very frustrating..

I have not heard anything about Baldock committing to the Ethniki will see if he will do so and maybe he will be available for the September qualifiers. As for Bakakis we need an upgrade for him at RB. I would much rather see JVS try Masouras there if there are no other options on the table. When will JVS make the selections for the NT?
-
Well the goalie that played vs Arsenal didn’t look to sharp in there final EL match and Benfica went out.. Vlachodimos is by far the best goalie for the Ethniki. Barkas can come up with some fantastic saves as he did vs Italy in the 3-0 loss were our team couldn’t defend but he is proned to giving up silly goals.

Yes the Erdivise teams are known for more attacking style of play and we saw that PSV had there troubles in defence vs Olympiakos. Their have been some great strikers come through that league recently as you have listed and you can add Zahavi too that list as well he was tremendous vs Olympiakos and has been prolific for Israel recently as well.

I haven’t seen that much of Douvikas at Volos only a couple of games this season. Pavlidis started of well with the Ethniki when he was first called up during the Euro qualifiers but he has struggled in his last appearances during the NL. Giakoumakis is tearing it up so he’s a shoe in. What’s going on with Fountas is he injured? Personally I am a big fan of his style of play. JVS just better not give Koulouris a call up..

Your right Greece had Slovenia on the back foot that game. We were creating so much in attack so many quality chances that one goal should have least been scored. Oblak made a couple unbelievable saves & we had some poor finishing. Slovenia barely created a chance that match even with Ilcic back in their lineup. Fortounis is our go to guy to create in attack. Olympiakos was anemic in the 1st half vs PSV. When he came on and was on the ball you could sense good things were going to happen and he played a big role in the goal and also unlucky he hit the bar of a wonderful taken free kick. Fortounis must START for us end of story..

Well said on many fronts. Initially I didn’t like how Sokratis attacked the coach on live media right after the Armenia game but looking at it now something had to be done after those two embarrassing loses to Italy & Armenia and what occurred leading up to those fixtures. Sokratis was directing his frustrations to the EPO who bring in sub par coaches after Rehagel & Santos. EPO can’t get the NT a stadium to call home they flip flop from OAKA to saying they will have the stadium in Crete rebuilt and nothing happens? They have to start putting the NT as there top priority. Greece have to be qualifying for World Cups & Euros this is the best exposure to be playing at these tournaments and the $ they will bring in is huge. JVS has been better but he can do far better still if he brings back Manolas and stops calling up guys like Tzavellas and if he brings Bakasetas in as a player who can come on in as a sub and he has to have Fortounis in the starting eleven. Then he will be taking big steps forward & maybe Greece can punch a ticket to the World Cup.

Blackhawks points are valid at the same time I agree that we need Manolas as he is a world class back and maybe the best Greek player on the roster. I think if he’s given a chance he will try very hard to shape up his attitude as this is a huge opportunity to help lead us to a World Cup and it may be the last chance he will ever get to play in another World Cup himsellf. Manolas will be much needed especially in the matches vs Sweden that will most likely decide who gets second spot and a playoff place.
