The fans seem to be warming to him. Plus the Crystal Palace game was only a friendly, hopefully there'll see sense and start him in their first game of the season on Saturday (against Cardiff). -

Do people on here think the slump in form of the national team is intrinsically linked with the decline of the Greek economy. I myself do but many on the football part of the forum do not agree. Incidentally I read a BBC report today that said that the situation in Greece is now on a scale with the American Great Depression. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-33507802 Btw this is the best article I've read on the BBC's website where they try and relate what is going on to others. A few weeks previous I emailed there editorial team to complain about the racial sterotyping they were doing with alot of there articles. And also how I felt they need to show a more human angle to what is happening. I still don't feel they have done that, as I'd like to see a documentary showing how hardships are effecting people, especially the young where mass unemployment is rife.

Its not rubbish. We have gone from being a top 10 team to now languishing in 44th place. That is not simply down to bad management alone. You need to see the bigger picture. If the whole of Greek society is on the brink of financial collapse do you not think that might rub off on the mood of players, staff and management? Not to mention effect the budget allocated for the national team? Also the majority of Greek clubs have been in decline in Europe as of late so that also ties in. You also speak about its been unfolding for the last 5 years, is it just a co-incidence that Greece has been on a special austerity policy for the last 5 years? It is 100% linked.

Suggested Call Ups, Starting 11
Chris Tsamados replied to Original 21's topic in Greek National Teams
Forget Torosidis I think we need to move Holebas up to midfield. I still remember that run he went on where he took the ball passed several players before having a shot (can't remember who it was against though, lol). He has the aggression and desire to be a cracking midfielder, plus he'd be unshackled from defensive duties, which lets face it, he's useless at. -
I think our decline as a national team is intrinsically linked with the decline of the economy. It's no coincidence that the team has been in free fall since Greece have been on the brink of going bankrupt.

That's got to be the biggest drop in the history of football.

I'd like to see Holebas recalled and moved to LM. He has a bit of spark in him and he wouldn't have to worry about tracking back with Satafylidis playing as a LB. -
Hopefully one of the other newly promoted premiership clubs will sign him. He's got bags of experience and still has plenty to offer.

Samaras setup Holebas for the goal against Ireland. Get them both back in the team! -

Samaras is technically still a West Brom player. So i guess he will train/ play with them if he doesnt find a new club in the summer. I don't blame him for not adapting to Saudi life, I've seen the training photos and all the players have to kiss the Saudi Princes who are just loads of old fat blokes sat on the touch line drinking tea. Very odd. Here: http://www.alhilal.com/en/news3907.html -
Faroe Islands-Greece(13 June 2015, Torsvollur, Torshavn)
Chris Tsamados replied to Omonoia9's topic in Greek National Teams
Unfortunately like all the games we've lost in this campaign our inability to score has cost us. We need 10+ attempts on goal to score the opposition 2-3. However it didn't help that every time Faroes broke we were all at sea. What happened to having one of the most resolute defences in the world? Hopefully Cyprus can qualify for the finals otherwise I'm not even going to bother watching it. -

We huff and puff need a zillion chances to score and the other team literally scores the moment they have the odd scuffed shot. Pathetic. -
