  1. Alan Greenspan should probably stick to re-reading Ayn Rand novels. He got it woefully wrong when the GFC hit. Apparently he had no idea it was coming and still thinks he was not responsible in any way for what happened. The problem with him and people that think like him is that they have this almost religious zeal that the "markets" will get everything right. Less regulation good, government bad, it's very black and white. The worst aspect of it is that it is not practical and doesn't resemble reality in any way. If we are going to go the "free" market route with little or no regulation, fine, I'll open a brothel and crack-den either side of his place of residence, with a factory across the road spewing all manner of pollution.
  2. Ha ha, nice video grkjet. At ~3:20 he says "Now I know that virtually none of you have ever done a proper job in your lives". That's just awesome.
  3. Another Inigo Lopes ? I really hope not. It's done now, we have to wait and see.
  4. You are a harsh marker! I thought Mak did all right. He didn't set the tournament on fire but I thought he was quite solid. I won't be upset if we don't sell him.
  5. He said "It's not meant for me". Really ?! This sounds something like Christiano would say.
  6. I don't buy the Tzavellas rumours. If it was the season with Anastasiadis, yep, I'd believe the rumours as he was poor and there was the trouble with Anastasiadis behind the scenes. But last season he's definitely been our best CB. And he's definitely the most composed on the ball and in his distribution. Add to that he can play LB if required and has a good free kick on him. I'd be amazed if we sold him. Vitor is gone. Malezas is a great backup/rotation option. Chatzi will hopefully have a break out season and show us what he's capable of. He seemed nervous (which is fair enough) last season. Tzavellas is currently our best CB. We haven't signed a top notch CB since Contreras.
  7. The Varela transfer story (saga?) just won't go away. For f--ks sake, if he's really worth 1.5 million just pay the 2 million to settle the matter. At either price, he should be clearly and easily better than any of our current CB's. If he's only slightly better, then he's not the player we want. We don't need depth, we need a true upgrade.
  8. Ok boys, I think I got it now. It got a bit cryptic trying to correlate world wars, depressions and various copy/paste quote snippets into why the Greek NT didn't perform.
  9. Please, say it isn't so. We used to be a fearless people once.
  10. Ha, now I am really afraid Reaper! I find myself agreeing with you 100%. You summed it up well. It's not that the concept of the project was wrong. It's that at some point it was hijacked by people that said "this is the direction it's going to go now, we know best". And they wouldn't listen to other views. And they can't even be voted out! Crazy. You know what is more crazy than the Brexit result ? The fact that it took so long for a country to tell the technocrats that enough is enough. Interesting times ahead.
  11. It's interesting seeing all the different views on this historic event. I for one think England made the right choice. I'm for a "United States of Europe" if it were implemented properly, but it has not been, and I don't think it ever will be. The current EU structure is fundamentally anti-democratic. In any member country in the EU, the people have the right via elections to vote out the ruling government. And this is the way it should be. With the EU structure, this is not so. The EU wants to have the authority to govern without the people having the right to vote them out if they are unhappy with them. The EU structure has also led to the arrogance with which they currently govern. They do not listen to the people nor care for their view (stick your 70% OXI up your clacker Greek plebs). Don't get me wrong, the people can be fickle, stupid and down right ignorant but to say "we are your leaders, you do what we say and you can't vote us out EVER", well, I can't handle that. The other problem with the EU is the current bizarre structure where Germany has so much power. It hasn't really been a "United Europe" for a while now. It's really a structure where Germany has a lot more say than other nations. I do like the "economic meltdown" stories though. When you look into them though we are talking best guesses of between 1% to 2% of GDP. Not a small figure but hardly scorched earth stuff. What of lowly Greece at 25% of GDP. Ah, they don't matter anyway ... -1 to Cameron. Said he wouldn't resign if the vote didn't go his way. Whatever ...
  12. I read something about it, but don't understand the reasoning behind it. I'll just have to take their (not your) word for it.
  13. I believe Chris was referring to the apathy of supporters.
  14. Historic result. Who would have thunk it ? Even conspiracy theorists didn't expect this to happen. It will be interesting to see how the negotiations pan out over the next few years.
  15. No exit polls ? Where is my tin foil hat ? It seems I have misplaced it.
  16. Back to more important issues. What is happening with signing a quality CB ? If this ever happens, I'm going to get a bottle of scotch, strip down to my underwear and start dancing tsiftetelia.
  17. Agree about Mateous. I am not keen about this signing and won't mind if it falls through. They guy is 33 years old and I'd be surprised if he has 90 minutes in him week in week out. Maybe he could be another Vukic, that is, a super substitute, but I'd rather we get someone younger or give one of our younger players more game time.
  18. Looks like it's going to go down to the wire. Having said that, if 50.01% of the population want to leave the EU, I don't know if that's enough of a majority given the magnitude of what is at stake. Likewise, if 50.01% of the population want to stay, having 49.99% that don't want to be in the EU is not encouraging either.
  19. Hopefully he gets to training on time. ;)
  20. There is nothing wrong with spending 2 million on a player, as long as they're worth it. At that price, they must be 100% starting material and clearly be an upgrade in whatever position they play. The question is, are any of these players worth it ?
  21. I don't know if anyone else has seen the latest episode of Game of Thrones Battle of the Bastards, but it was I-N-S-A-N-E !!!
  22. They say music calms the savage beast. Maybe this will help.
  23. 1789's posts are a joy to behold. I love it when I click over to a new page in a thread, and there it is, a wall of text with the avatar of Machlas pinned to it. If I have to scroll down because the wall of text doesn't fit onto the one screen, all the better. Sometimes, I might even make myself a herbal tea and really get into rancho relaxo mode before I start reading the wall of text.
  24. You applied the kiss of death once again.
  25. What is the meaning of cutting their heads off ? If it is to show disrespect then the goal has been achieved. If they wanted to show the body for proof, then show the body. There is no need to desecrate it. I guess it's all about dehumanising your enemy, which then validates any actions against them.
